hunter42
Nothing more than a big toys They won't replace real ffIt's not designed to. They're designed to check cylinders of the industrial gas acetylene. This will save lives and mean the 24 hour cordon that is set up is not needed for so long. The robots are a great idea. I'm glad they have had good results with them.
Commander Rasseru
This not new at all! Tokyo Fire Department has 12 robots for fire fighting and rescue robot for some time.http://zoome.jp/firemovie/diary/3 <--- Newest Rescue RobotThese robots are not remodel or been reused. Built to do the job.The have them to help with earthquakes. When huge buildings might fall over and create a large search area. Also use for industrial gases or heated areas that normal fire suits can't go to.If there going to be a new type of Robotics... More likely Japan made it first or built a better one.
Forensics
http://zoome.jp/firemovie/diary/3 <--- Newest Rescue Robot That man is being eaten by a robot! It wouldn't be very good if the victim had back probelms.
Commander Rasseru
It wouldn't be very good if the victim had back probelms.I real person won't act like a rag doll. The dummy was slowly and stabilize in to it. Not like it was throw into it.If a person is in danger? At a area that no person could get to them. It wise to hurt the victim just a little to save their life.In the Rules of a Rescuer is; "To save a person life... A rescuer must not create any harm to their self." If the rescue is hurt when saving another person. Then you might then save two people. Risking other people's lives.

Commander Rasseru
That London fire officer said it took 2 years to get a robots to fight fires and to get the technology? That is funny! The technology was around like least 10 years before and 2 years to get used robots. The London Fire Service must have budget problems or that their R&D guys are not that great at all.Tokyo Fire Department started developing fire robots since 1998~2002. You would think someone in another department would see these robots. And make a look alike or something like it?
Forensics
The London Fire Service must have budget problemsAll of the UK is underfunded: NHS, police, schools, fire service. The government just doesn't seem to understand how important all these are. Guest Nick
The technology was around like least 10 years before and 2 years to get used robots. The London Fire Service Brigade must have budget problems or that their R&D guys are not that great at all.The robots are from Qinetiq, a private company, not directly from LFB, so I'd imagine that accounts for some of the delays. While they seem a good idea, I'm surprised that LFB are involved in this venture, seeing as they are being told to cut costs. I think? (€ 1,893,837,928 / $ 2,821,418,298)Don't know how much they use to buy robots?I guess that's why research pays off in Japan... Those Robotic Companies means business with SCIENCE! Guest Taylor
IMO, they're just big pieces of useless metal unless it's a giant disaster. I couldn't see them going into a regular building and helping save people. Humans are MUCH more useful, and faster.

With the only tools... that are a Helmet, Axe, Rope and a Jack.We have reports... That we may get after shocks and the building frames can't take any more hits.Still want to go in? Commander Rasseru
I said in giant disasters it'd be useful. They make robots different sizes. A big robot is not a replacement for going inside a building. Yet even a small disasters it could be used as a crane.People can mistake reading dude. Don't have a cow. jab16
I guess it may be useful in a biochemical attack or big fire, but they are kinda slow and don't move that well.
Newfoundking
I think the sole purpose is not to replace in all situations but just in those where it's too dangerous to enter at all, ie chemical hazards, structural instability etc.
Commander Rasseru
They may one day have small and fast scout robots. For searching survivors in mass city ruins. That could able to detect life signs. So trained rescuers don't have to be every where in a search.
