As for jurisdiction, you don't need to include like the CIA, but include all police forces for the area pretty much

RNC is our provincial police force and being the Capitol city, they take care of the city and surronding area.

RCMP is the federal Police, as most of you know, and they also hang around, but don't really do a lot in the city, they are mainly highway oriented.

We have a big part of town called pleasentville which is mainly Army, and you'll see a lot of MPs around there.

The Campus is quite large and goes through a main part of town, so Campus enforcement works on that, closely with RNC

The neighbouring town(like our little sister) has a VERY small municipal police force, with only a few officers. RNC still takes care of there mostly

RNC although it is provincial only does a few areas for policing.. It can go anywhere in the province, however, a lot of the smaller towns and such are policed by RCMP, or for the larger ones, municipal police forces.

There are a few Federal cops that aren't RNC that go around town, but usually they don't police, as much as be Feds, if you know what I mean..

The Sheriff Department is for corrections only, however doesn't do prisons, only court. They don't respond to police calls, however they could if they were needed to.

Evansville Police Department - They patrol the city, and investigate crimes in city limits. Not sure if they investigate crimes outside of city limits. They use Crown Vics and Impalas for there regular patrol cars, plus a Dodge Charger. They have a few misc units.

Evansville is in Vanderburgh County.

Vanderburgh County Sheriffs - They patrol mostly the out skirts of the city but have power with in city limits to. They sometimes will sometimes drive by an inner city traffic stop if there in the area just to make sure everything looks to be in order, but they wont actually stop. They use Crown Vics mostly. They also have an Expedition and a few Toyota pick ups.

Indiana State Police - They patrol the highways. but you may seem them in city like the sheriffs. Like sheriffs they may also check up on traffic stops if there in the area. They have authority any where in the state.

Indiana Conservation officers - Often referred to as Game Wardens they patrol the river, and river front down town, the lakes, they patrol around country gravel roads,camp grounds and they have lots of power. More so then all of the above.

All of the above have the power to respond anywhere in the city if need be.

Now we have 2 major university campuses in town, but both of which have campus security, but surprisingly they dont have campus police.

Well the campus we have is the size of a small town, it is a humongous spot for buildings, and as well as the actual campus itself, it has many many housing areas. Due to the sheer sze of this, they gave campus patrol, patrol cars. And can you blame them, the area is giant...

RNC stands for Royal Newfoundland Constabulary. I think it does anyway.

In St. Louis County its not done. just taking one look at the officers will deter you from doing anything stupid - they are/look evil lol. if you do do something (or regardless) they sexually harass you.

There is no point in doing feds since it's an alphabet soup that would drive anyone mad. Here is a list of just a very small segment from State down to city for Los Angeles.

California Highway Patrol

- Primary LEA for all freeways and state highways, also contracts for primary law enforcement in some areas. Absorbed the California State police and all of their responsibilities

California Dept of Corrections

- In charge of state Jails, Handcrews, Cleanup crews

California Department of Fish&Game

- In charge of fish, game and wildlife

California Department of Justice

- Bureau of Firearms, Forensic Services, Gambling. Investigation & Intelligence, Narcotic Enforcement Agents,

California State Parks

- Rangers who deal in both Law Enforcement and Fire patrol/inspection

California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control

- Inspection and regulation of alcohol. Operates a lot of sting operations on various clubs and restaurants.

University of California - Los Angeles Police

- Primary LEA for UCLA

California State University Police

- Primary LEA for CSUN, CSUDH, and other Cal States

Los Angeles County Sheriffs Dept

- Unincorporated County areas, and contracts with many cities for primary law enforcement such as compton. Also contracts with many community colleges and has the Metro/Transit bureau contract and Harbor Patrol for Marina Del Rey and other areas.

Los Angeles County Office of Public Safety (LA County Police)

- County Parks, County Buildings, County Hospitals

Los Angeles Police Department

- Primary LEA for the city of Los Angeles

Los Angeles General Services Police

- municipal buildings, over 400 parks, 75 libraries, the Convention Center, Zoo and many other facilities throughout the City

Los Angeles Port Police

- Los Angeles Ports and Harbors

Los Angeles World Airports Police

- Van Nuys and Los Angeles International Airport

Los Angeles Unified School Police

- Primary LEA for city schools.

Los Angeles City Park Ranger Department

- Specially trained Rangers who handle Law Enforcement and Fire Patrol/inspection duties amongst others in larger parks.

Minor Law Enforcement and inspection agencies

- Los Angeles Bureau of Street Services Investigation & Enforcement Division

- Los Angeles Building and Safety inspectors

- Los Angeles Department of Transportation Investigations

- Los Angeles County Department of Public Health inspectors

Well in my area:

Local:

Campus Police and Safety: There are three local college campuses, all maintain their own force. At the Penn State Campus, they are all sworn peace officers, follow state regulations, and are armed. The two private schools have a mix of full officers and security staff, on our campus they aren't armed.

Erie City Police: Erie City police are responsible for the City itself. They have their own SWAT team, and bomb squad. They also have K9, motorcycle, school district police division, and housing authority police division.

Millcreek Township Police: Millcreek is the largest township surrounding the city. Their force includes K9 unit. I'm not sure if they have their own SWAT team but i believe they do not. They will work with the city in mutual aid, as will other local agencies.

County:

Fire Police: Attached to most volunteer fire departments, their role is traffic control and crowd control at incidents.

Erie County Sheriff's: Primarily, they serve warrants and maintain the county jail. They are responsible for regular law enforcement activities in more remote ares in the county, or when called to help local agencies. They also have a maritime patrol, and dive team.

Port Authority Police: maintain law and order at the port of Erie and at Tom Ridge International Airport. They only have I think three vehicles, I think 1 K9, and a command post.

State:

Pennsylvania State Police: Responsible primarily for the interstate and more remote areas of the county. They will and do respond to many other local agencies requests. They also maintain their own SWAT, bomb squad, K9, and aviation units.

Pennsylvania State Constables: They are elected officials that are sworn peace officers. They are independent contractors of the state, and are used to serve warrants, capture fugitives who have jumped bail, and to collect fines. Really a weird group, but also interesting.

Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board: Sworn officers that monitor liquor law violations. Because of all the bars and the college campuses, they are up here in force several times a year. They drive silver suburbans.

Pennsylvania State Park Rangers: Responsible for law enforcement at Presque Isle State Park. They ahev one or teo vehicles.

Pennsylvania State Game Commission: They are sworn officers, and regulate the state game lands around Erie. They also regulate and monitor the Casino and horse track activities passively.

Federal:

Veteran's Affairs Police: Based out of the VA hospital they are primarily responsible for protecting that campus. They do however come into the community in certain situations. Namely veterans that escape the hospital and or go berserk. I believe they are also MP's from my understanding.

Federal Bureau of Investigations: Have a small field office, primarily involved in the EAGLE (an anti-gang/organized crime group).

Federal Protective Services Police: They protect the federal courthouse. I think they only have one car.

U.S. Border Patrol: Erie is a port of entry and as such has Border patrol agents. At the moment there are only a few (one car and a tahoe), but they are building a full station. They are responsible for working with the port authority to protect from incoming threats.

U.S. Coast Guard: They protect the bay of Erie, and the surrounding water ways to the Canadian border. They are also responsible for port safety and security as well as search and rescue operations. They have one defender class boat stationed at the Presque Isle Coast Guard Station.

I think that's about all of them in a nutshell.

Man it must be complex working out who turns up for you lot over the pond. Where I live, Thames Valley Police deal with everything. None of the Federal Agencies over here either

Turning out tends to be less complex of an issue then who has to deal with the paperwork in the end. More often then not, mutual aid agreements, and cross-jurisdictional responses are well thought out before hand and agreements are in place with the agencies. Especially when an incident requires a specialized team such as divers, Air Support, or SWAT. The major stickler then becomes who has to deal with the pile of paperwork for the incident, especially if it's an injury accident with city property damage. In an area where two or more agencies share a border, you will often find Police officers with measuring tape arguing over who's jurisdiction an accident occurred and who has to deal with the investigation. Areas like West Hollywood that share a border with LASD and LAPD, or in Orange County where CHP, Westminster PD, Orange County Sheriff, and Garden Grove PD all have different sections of Beach Blvd (Highway 39), it can be quite trying at times to listen to the officers squabble about inches on the other guys side of the line all to get out of having to deal with the report.

See, in Britain, the police run their own air support, armed response etc. So there are no other agenices involved. Talking of armed response. There are armed police at the back of my house looking for a guy with a axe, but that's off topic.
