How hard is it to change light colors in the EM5 Editor? Because if you make blue and red, I'll need to change it to all blues and an LED light bar for Chicago.

Chicago uses a totally different lightbar unfortunately. You will have to do a model swap on it besides editor work.

policecar-1170x777.jpg

Touching on the CVPI model itself, it honestly has quite a few flaws in the shape that it has, and looks wrong on some angles compared to the real CVPI. I would definitely recommend editing the model to get a more accurate shape on the vic, since you need to swap the model out anyway. You will also need to install spotlights on both sides of the cruiser.

As for the OP, the model is clearly from NFS Hot Pursuit 2, played that game as a child. The model itself, once the polies are cut, should work in Em5, but you need to edit its shape like I mentioned above.  The scaling on it from what I can see is off, due to how much longer a CVPI is in length than a Merc B Class. I also saw your topic on the civil cars and the other vehicles (Tahoe, Burban, 'rango). MikeyPI covers all of the issues with those models and all of his points should definitely be a factor in what you do. Good luck with your Em5 modding ambitions.

LED light bar

Ahem. : )

Yes, I am aware that the CVPI is off a bit, but I'm sure William will be able to fix it, and take care of the lightbar issue (I thought it was a child model though). And if not, which I doubt, I can always use a different model.

I'm also aware that the Vic is a tad off, however this being my first model I and the limited camera angles of EM2016.  I will continue with this model as a test.  Once I get better at this and faster I may try and recreate the perfect crown vic.  The other thing is that if you look at some of the prints I have on this vehicle you will see that some of the older versions have a more block style on the rear and front.  With the model near test stage now I will continue with it as is.

Ben12

Thanks for the attention to detail for the Chicago model.  I have taken some specs from the light bar used by the cruisers in the CPD and created a new one and will try and remap and/or retexture the model.  I will then make this a 2nd model.  I must say im a little upset that Chicago seems to use only blue lights however I have also found photos showing Red on the lightbars as well.  I really miss the red part of the bars lol.  To keep to realistic specs for now it will simply stay as blue.  I will also try and add the spotlamp on the driver side however it will simply be for appearance for now.  Most of the vics I have seen have it only on the drivers side as a single officer can operate it.

Retexturing it for your use should not be too hard as long as you understand how the UVW is laid out.  You would also need the material manager in Em2016 to do it.  As the .tiff file is converted to a .dds file and given a long cryptic name that makes hardly any sense.

Hope to get a few screenshots coming soon a a before and after shot.

Have a great day.

The problem is that most of what people pawn off as blueprints for vehicles are really either just hand-drawings or "blueprints" taken from model kits.. As such they're not very accurate to say the least.  Truth is, though the vic did see some minor alterations from 1998 (first year of the last design) to the end of it's run for the most part the thing was largely unchanged except for minor cosmetic changes.  The overall shape of the vehicle saw nearly no alterations during it's final run.  the 1992-1997 design run saw some design alterations, some of which were pretty notable but the final gen was mostly the same aside from insert components.  Basically what you see in pictures (actual photos of the vehicle) are what you can expect for it's legitimate shaping.  Blueprints help for designing models, but be certain to verify they are accurate in the first place, far too often people publish them as blueprints where they really should not be; I've seen some where the "blueprint" in question was not even for the right car they claimed it was.

Imo of the convert models, the crown vic shows the most promise as far as performance goes for it.. If I were to pick at portions that can use some shape alterations it would be the front and rear bumpers, and the C pillar behind the rear door could use a bit more curving.  IMO though it's a decent first gen rendition to use for figuring things out, but I would probably not call it a final version if it were me.

Either way, goodluck to you, hopefully some of my advice helps you out in your goals.

If time allows hopefully I can post some rendering shots of a tweaked model and a new CPD skin.  I will warn you in advance it is not fully completed and not fully accurate to the exact model of the crown Vic and or some of the CPD graphics and decals.  The light bar I tried to create from scratch using a few photos I was able to get online.

Now to comment on the blue prints.  The problem is that unless I want to pay more then this game cost I can not get accurate blue prints for each and every model.  The prints that the models are based off of are not 100% accurate and or to scale.  I would love to be able to model off of a REAL blue print and or photos but photos I can't take where I'm at now and you would have to make sure that ALL photos were taken from the exact same distance and at each and every perfect angle.  Of not they would be off too.

So now the only option is trying to use free blue prints found online and doing what I can to model them into the game.

Then after all that is done getting a realistic like texture and UVW mapping for each model.  Now the one great or not so great thing about emergency vehicles is that each and every vehicle seems to have writing and decals.  Well that is a pain because no I have to create new uvs so that they show correct on the other side as well.  That's why some of the textures may be a tad off.

I may try and save and create a new uvw template by slicing the model edges and seeing if that works better. Might allow me to have two separate sides of the vehicle instead of having to flip uvw and mirror things.

But we will see what happens as well and how it renders in the game as it looks fine TO ME on 3ds but when imported has some issues.

Hope for some screens later when I get back to a place with bandwidth

For the first ever American vehicle put in Emergency 5, I think it was quite well done, good job!

I have been working on getting the textures very close and have also added one spot light on the drivers side.   I'm unable to post photos because we have moved to a new fob and not the bandwidth is worse then before.  If i get a good signal then hopefully i can get a small photo posted.

Take care

45 minutes to get these photos up wow we must be back to speeds of the old dialup modems. Oh well enjoy.  Still a work in progress but hope to get some in game shots real soon.

crownvic_cpd1.jpgcrownvic_cpd2.jpg

Still a few texture uv mapping issues that I'm trying to work out without redoing the whole car.  But coming together nicely

Have a great day

Thankyou very much for the compliment Ben12 but I don't think you want me to be the SOLE person as I just don't have the time or the connection over here right now.  This has become a project and a damn obsession to make this work but way too much stuff still needs to be worked on and changed for a full American Mod.  This is a start and I'm hoping some other people will join in and start working with us.  I can put it this way.  "IF I CAN DO THIS THEN ANYONE CAN"   I'm by far not the smartest person on this earth and this game really proves it.  They make it so hard to do something simple. lol

Anyways here is a preview of the vehicle in the EM2016 editor.  Still work to do and to start testing in the game and make it playable.  I have also been working on a FLARE complete with sparks to replace the signal disk.  A new fire hydrant us style.

crownvic_original_vs_cpd.jpg

here she is with the emmisive map lighting sitting next to the almost finished black and white version.

crownvic_cpd_spot.jpg

You asked for it and Got it.  The driver side spot light and the flattened light bar.   I will prob be changing the red lighting on the top because it would appear in MOST photos that this is a clear or white lens.  Stupid window texture problem has returned and the writing in the rear door is reversed for now.  (STILL A WIP)

crownvic_cpd_side.jpg

Oh no someone tool the wheels.  This is only the body imported for now and the doors lined up.  The textures on this side a almost identical in placement size color etc.  Why because I took them from photos and got them into the model .tiff file.  Very happy with this side of the vehicle

crownvic_cpd_rear.jpg

Finally the rear and yes before people start saying the plates are wrong I know.  It will be switched to a corrected state plate when the model is completed.  For now Its just the graphic decals on the back.  If you look closely on the light bar center it has the American Flag found on the police cars however in the "game cam" most of these details and small imperfections won't be seen.  That is until someone finds how to make a the "freecam" playable in game.  No luck on my end as of yet.

More to come and hopefully some IN GAME shots soon.  Who knows.  I had to leave the computer on almost all night to post these as our connection in the new location sucks.  I will try and keep posted as i can.

(by the way another huge thanks to killerconsti who keeps helping me when I bug him.  Without his help I would NEVER have gotten this far as this game is difficult at best to get things done with)

Ok so I took a break from the CPD (Chicago Police) Version because the same problems existed in BOTH models and needed to be corrected.  Part of the issue was with the material being wrong and not displaying correctly.  I was NOT happy at all with the textures.  They were blurry and the old version of the Halogen moterized lightbar look like crap.  Well I finally figured out how to get multiple materials into the game on the same model.  It had been illuding me for awhile. I was able to finally fix the windows (YEAH!!!!) and also make a really good looking REALISTIC texture for the older style lightbar.  So here are the shots.  Now that I'm finally happy with the model it has been assembled in the world builder and now is a FULL model.  Now it will be time to make it playable in EM2016.

Here are the newest shots of the black and white model

police_crown_vic_blackwhite_1.jpg

Windows are fixed and no longer broken, if possible the transparency will be adjusted to make the more realistic.  May add windshield wipers but just as a texture. We will see.  The models above are all assembled now with the correct placement of the doors, wheels, lights etc.  The CPD model will follow next now that this problem has been worked out.

police_crown_vic_blackwhite_2.jpg

I'm try to make it the most realistic as possible and the ugly Red/blue lights on the other model were driving me nuts.  Here is a close up and you can see where the siren would be and the clear texture made to look like a halogen light and reflector with the rotating mirrors.  Sorry I'm just really happy with the results.

Next step is to make it playable and add the lighting effects, equipment etc.

I have a patrol coming up later so not sure how much I will get done tonight but I will leave the computer so I can load a few of the shots that hopefully will show above.

Wow thanks for getting those silly files straight.  I like the Windows and I will make sure to fix the lightbar and wheel uv and material in a little while.  Got a few briefings for later tonight and then maybe get some time to correct some issues and hopefully try again.

Thanks again without your help I would have quit long long ago and never seen the model get this far.

After getting some time to rest I have returned back to correcting several problems that Killerconsti found when working with the vehicle.  To include some god awefull wheel textures and see through bodies and problems with the transparent materials.  I'm hoping to get some screens up later tonight if the bandwidth will allow of the new and improved crownvic black and white.

Fixes include, remap of the wheels and adding realistic textures to the wheel and the tires and sidewalls.

Interior of doors now modeled.  All doors and body are now a "shell" and should no longer be see through.  This should also allow the player to see inside the car if the door is open.

General fixes to the the uvw mapping.  So far it looks pretty good at least in the 3d program. Only time will tell if it will translate to the game.  I'm trying to also work on getting an American siren sound file to also add this to the vehicle as well.

These changes will now also be applied to the other vehicle models in the works and now that I know several key issues with the 3d models and how they are handled and problems with transparent polygons etc.  Hopefully I can now make the changes to the new models before it becomes a huge hassle and headache.  The fun part will be getting this model into the game again as that seems to be my major headache.

Killerconsti, the slow bandwidth and possible security problems would not allow the photos, so I had to create a "shell" around the vehicle and the doors.  Then I learned how to use multi/sub materials and created a new material using 5 different bitmaps.

1 - default

2 - interior

3 - windows

4 - exterior

5 - lens

Then used the edit poly to make the polygons whatever material id that I wanted.  Then UV Unwrapped the interiors .tiff images to the correct place. I'm not sure what will happen now with the import into the game because I have so many .tiff files and a material file that contains them.  Hopefully if it works each .tiff file can be changed using the in game material manager to make it semi-transparent.  If not then I will have to try your trick of creating a clone and reversing the polygon.  I tried and couldn't get it to work and also wondered what would happen as it would affect the pivot points etc.

Wish everyone a safe and happy day.

Ok here are a few shots of the fix that will make the car have an interior.  Several texture fixes as well and hopefully I can get the transparency to work on the window.  The few bugs that killerconsti found that ruined the model was the see through parts and the wheels.  I created a shell and added some internal uvw materials to it.  Now if the car is viewed from the side and the windows do become semi transparent you will see the interior and no longer see the road or the missing polygons.

The wheels have been completely redone new textures for the tires, treads, rims etc.

The changes will be passed down to all the other models as well.

crownvic_inter_1.jpg

The new doors have a little depth so as when viewed from the sides they don't dissapear.  The trunk has been changed to a tactical trunk used in police cars and has an AR-15 riffle "image only"  with a tactical holder.  Interior of the doors a real crown vic door textures.

crownvic_inter_2.jpg

crownvic_inter_3.jpg

The new tires look awesome and are based on real tire textures and tread patterns.  Makes the original look like crap.

Have not had much time to work on the model due to increased work load and also have been relocated twice now.  The changes to this model will get passed down to the CPD model as well.  As for fixing the lighting as asked by Ben, It is not hard to do in the world editor however the textures would also need to be changed correctly and that would have to be done otherwise you would have a red texture producing a blue light flare.  If all goes right I'm hoping to make the lightbars separate objects that can be added to the models.

WOW, you did a very good job. The new tires and doors are really really well done. And I have to admit I love the tires.

I may should correct you there. The transparency color can be set only with the "Diffuse Color"-value in the Worldbuilder. It isnt set by a texture. This means for each glass color you need your own material:

->windows: black material

->blue material for one side of the top light

->red material for the other site.

this also means you just need to pick a new color in the Worldbuilder. It couldnt be easier for you Ben- even if it means some extra trouble form williams as he need to make 3 materials for the glass

http://www.emergency-planet.com/profile/59840-william-stapleford/

1. It should be helpfull if you export the lightbar seperated from the other parts, as it's easier to customize or export a second one with a different material. But thats just my 2 cents

2. Had you tried to use the setiings I told you to use?

(Sceneblend ->Alpha, TransparentSorting -> Force, Diffuse Color- 0 0 0 0,2 ... and the others if i missed some)?

3. I'm done with the c++ code for the equipment. I made 10 placeholder equipments (5 wearable / 5 placeable). Unluckily my mod got pretty large (100mb). I ll do a translation in the next week thought i m not to sure if you could use it and see how awesome this equipment stuff has become.

4. You always say, that you had to redo the whole UV. If I had to use shell- i would only pick the door and this would cause that it dont influence the other pieces of the model

Have a nice Day and keep up the great work

I am awed. Keep up the good work!

I think what we could do is we can set the rifle to be obtainable by normal officers, from the trunk. That way we have a reason for having the texture in the trunk.

Quick update

Can't get any shots up yet due to poor bandwidth but work continues

My pitfalls or holdup

The freaking turn signals.  Consti is helping with this but so far no luck to get a simple flashing emmisive map.

Fixed

Transparency for Windows finally

Dbl sided material so vehicle is no longer see through.

Wheels redone and completed

To do

Add emergency lighting effects

Equipment array

Testing

Once I get to this stage I hope to release this as a beta test for anyone interested.  The CPD model will follow closely behind this as it is mostly a copy of the original with textures and changes to the lightbar etc.

Hope to get the screenshots up soon when time allows and bandwidth is better.

My update as promissed hopefully the bandwidth gods will allow this to be uploaded.  Just so you didn't think I was sleeping on the job.  Thanks to Consti finally getting to the finishing phases of this vehicle and hopefully getting a beta testing download soon.

Also I will be releasing the traffic director lightbar and the halogen light bar in a separate download soon.  What this means is that the lighting effects and all the timing will be ready for use with any other mod or vehicle.  Simple use the world builder and attach the prefab to the vehicle using hardlink.

20160506150725_1.jpg

Crown vic black and white with halogen lightbar, Vehicle includes the following Emergency lighting at this time. Halogen lightbar with multirotating lights to mimic a motor driven system.  Sometimes the lights will overlap and be at different times.  Rear deck traffic director lightbar.  This is actually a object on the INSIDE of the vehicle.  Yellow lights move from center to outer edge.  For NOW they are connected to a light blue function but if Consti can get these to work with a new interface I can redo them for a custom function.  Rear brake alternating strobes, Front grill alternating strobes, Mirror alternating strobes.  All set as custom and imitating real world flash patterns.

20160506150726_2.jpg

Traffic director lightbar with outer alternating red and blue leds

20160506150827_2.jpg

I close up showing the traffic director bar located INSIDE the vehicle.  Windows on the model are semi-transparent.  Also the inside dash and radio are lit when the emmisive map is active for the lighting.  Just a nice little touch

20160506151311_1.jpg

Nighttime test on multiple units and lighting.  This guy really messed up to get this much attention.

Hoping to get some REAL IN GAME shots soon.

Have a great day
