Jason Todd La Due
I just installed today and anytime I try to launch the game, the screen goes black for several seconds then closes back to the desktop. I have checked and my video drivers are current. I also tried running in compatibility mode as XP sp3 and that didn't help either. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I don't see an upload option so I can post my log and dxdiag so I uploaded them to my webserver. http://JTLWebDesign.com/images/DxDiag.txthttp://JTLWebDesign.com/images/logfile.txt Thanks! LAD23DER
Are you right clicking the icon and selecting 'Run as Administrator'?
randomperson139
Have you tried reinstalling? Where did you get the game from?
Jason Todd La Due
I've tried running as admin, and tried running in XP compatibility. When I made the post, I was running the copy I bought from Amazon but since then, I also went ahead and purchased it from Steam thinking maybe there was something wrong with the Amazon version but I have the same results from the Steam copy. I have uninstalled and reinstalled a few times and same results.
Newfoundking
This looks confusing. Your specs are almost identical to mine. The only difference is the display driver, otherwise, it's virtually the same. I run a copy of Deluxe from years ago. Non-steam. It defintely looks like something with your display drivers. Do you have a version you can roll back to to try it on? Kinda a shot in the dark, but it might be your best bet in this situation. If your game is box fresh (unmodded or editted) there should be nothing causing this except hardware compatibility issues
mariuswww
Check resolution in cfg file.
Jason Todd La Due
Mariuswww, The cfg had the resolution at 1024/768. I saw on other posts to try 800/600 so I changed it but it made no difference. Newfoundking, I have the LA mod for it but have not loaded it yet so both copies are un-altered. As far as a version to roll back to, are you referring to an older version of the video drivers? If so, I'm sure I can download older driver versions and try it. Jason Todd La Due
Ok, I'll give that a shot tonight and post back the results.
Jason Todd La Due
I tried changing my cfg to match my monitor settings but had the same result. The only thing I know of left to try is to try running it using the onboard graphics instead of my the video card I added to the system. Updating the drivers for the onboard right now then gonna try it. Hopefully it works but it is gonna suck to have to take out my PCIE video card anytime I want to play this game. If anyone has any other ideas, please let me know. UPDATE: Updated drivers for my onboard video and had the same results (tried it before I updated them too and no luck). This is driving me crazy because my computer at work is a piece of junk but it runs the game just fine.
randomperson139
Doesn't sound like you tried it, so see if you can find older drivers (not updated ones) for your video card and try those. It might be incompatible with the newer drivers as the game is old.
Jason Todd La Due
I was able to roll back my driver to a december 2013 version. (I built the computer originally in Jan of 14 so the december 2013 driver would have been the one I used). Still no luck. All I get is a black screen, the audio from the intro, the back to desktop. Jason Todd La Due
Thank you everyone for your help but I was able to solve the issue. During my impatience, I started putting the errors in the log in Google and found a topic on this forum where someone had mentioned a codec tweak tool. I had already removed the codec pack I had previously installed but I went ahead and downloaded and ran the tool anyways and it found several media extensions that were still pointed via the registry to the codec pack I removed. I let it repair them and now the game works!!!! I am very excited to be able to play now. In case anyone else comes across this post and is having the same problems, try this link.http://www.videohelp.com/software/Codec-Tweak-Tool
