Purpose of the clone tool?

So, is it possible to switch textures with the cloned prototype or is it kind of meaningless?

Clone tool is only for replicating prototypes. The textures are model dependent. Cloning does nothing to them.

Cloning is more or less for if you have vehicles that are identical in prototypical setup (ie the doors/lights) that you want to keep, you clone the proto setup and then can replace the model with the one that you wish to use with it and modify the proto details accordingly to match.

 

IE

LAPD crown vic 0048, you want 0049 which is nearly identical aside from unit nr in a reskin fashion.  You would want to use the clone feature to save time in having to re-align everything again.

Yeah, only reason I'm asking is because it's a pain to redo all the doors and wheels for replica with a simple change (rambar, lightbar etc.). I'll probably end up taking off roof numbers so each unit isn't tied to the model.
