EM4 black screen then nothing

Trying to get EM4 to work but no luck.  Screen blinks black and then nothing.  I'm not the most tech savy guy just trying to play the game.  Any help is much appreciated.

This is happening because of the screen resolution settings. Basically, the game is trying to use 1280x960 resolution and your monitor uses 1440x900.To fix, you need to open the file called em4.cfg with notepad.

 

Once opened, find the part that says

 

<var name="r_xres" value="1280" />
    <var name="r_yres" value="960" />

 

Change the values to 1024 and 768 respectively.

These values may mean a black outline may appear around the game, if you don't want this to happen change the values to 1440 and 900. These settings may cause a slight decrease in performance, depending on how powerful your computer is. If there is any issue with performance using 1440x900, use 1024x768 instead.

 

You may find that you encounter some issues when trying to save the modified file. If you do, save the file to the desktop instead and then move it back to the game folder once saved.
