After some advice on commands + specific car crashes my game?

Hi all

when adding commands to vehicles & personel in the editor, i noticed there are dummy commands wat are they and do i need to add them if I use a command that has a similar name.

for example PcmdbarricadeGet, PcmdBarricadePlace,PcmdBarricadeRemove, DummyPoilceBarricade

the same thing with flares and road cones.

What are the basic rules for adding commands is there a max a unit or personnel can have etc?

On anthor topic when i run my mod and load a mission & go to call a specfic vehicle ,i click on its icon to bring up the personnel menu but then the game crashes as soon as i click. Ive had this problem with other vehicles before but have sloved it by edting both the two portraits.XMl and infotexts.XML file and then the vehicle would load with no problems.

I have checked and rechecked the Unit.xml, potraits.xml (Lang & Specs) and the infotexts.xml for any mistakes, im thinking two things i added a command that either is confilicting with something else or not suppose to go with that specifc vehicle or the other thing i noticed was when i ran the Portraits.xml, & infotexts.xml in the Lang folder in windows explorer it loaded with text but in a different format shown below in the screenshot.

It could also be the "type" of vehicle you gave it in the properties.

I also have had this problem. Load up the two files and bold where u think the problem is. I'll have a look :)

thanks for the reply squamishfire, i will hold off uploading the files for the moment because im intrested in the peoblem you had,dou know how u were able to solve it?

the vehicle in question is a STW police car type that crashes the game.

Looks like this topic is getting alot of views but no many replies so im going to provide some more information about what im trying to do.

For my own (personal use of course) mod I have taken some models from the LA mod, NY mod and the Queensland mods to play somthing with an aussie feel.

What I have done is reksinned the models, added them to the editior, changed the light colurs, created and updated the unit xml files, updated both Portraits xml files and the info texts xmls files and rechecked the xml files 100 times to ensure there are no mistakes and they all pass the 'windows explorer open' test but every time i go to call the unit the game crashes, the majority of models work without issue.

the vehicle model in question is the Highway Patrol commodore from the queensland mod, now I dont think this is a fundamental .v30 file problem because the same issue happens with another unit, a triton ute, excpet two of the same model as the unit (the triton ute) that I copied and then reskinned works fine when i click to call the unit but one will crash the game. I have also checked my logfile and it says the game loaded both models and relevant personnel also i have removed all 3rd party commands from the units and now i am out of ideas.

If anyone else has had this issue and has overcome it, i really need some help so please let me know otherwise im going to go bald from ripping my hair out :huh:

So i thought maybe if i remove the personel from the vehicle in question's .xml file maybe then it would load and sure enough it worked the game didnt crash and i was able to load the vehicle on to the map but with no one in it.

So now that I know that it is the personel crashing my game I replaced the prototype file with a new one, replaced the .V3O file with a new one, added a .VMO file which it didnt have by the way what is a .VMO file? and also replaced the texture file with a .png file instead of a dds file but no luck, still the game crashes.

Now that i have narrowed it down to my personel any ideas what could be the cause?

F*(&k yea!! finally I got it!!

turns out that i put the wrong dds files in the units-personel folder!!

I think I orginaly took the dds files from the actuall 911 game units folder instead of from a mod.

I am still confused by one thing though, the commads, i get what most of them do expect for the "dummy" commands whats up with those?
