Whatever story the game has was totally wasted on us I remember a mission in... Halo 2, I think, where we were crossing a bridge with a tank and warthog. My friend was racing back and forth across the bridge - until he crashed into my tank and flew off the bridge - he'd also triggered lots of enemy spawns so couldn't respawn until I killed them all.
