LA Mod Features You Don't Use?

Recommended Posts

I use the helicopter all the time since there's only like 1 patrol path for police so they're all on the wrong side of the city

Personally, I don't not use any features. Traffic vests I just have my guys change into when on traffic duty, and off when they're not. Cones I rarely use, same with flares but (in multiplayer especially) I use 4 flares to make a helicopter landing 'pad' as well as other functions.

Mainly I don't use all of the units lol. Until there's a mission involving Mexicans Border Patrol is kind of useless :P

Also don't like the fact Hoppah expects us to deal with a several hundred acre forest fire with a tiny, inadequate budget, while protecting EVERY house AND the base, evacuating the town, and arresting the guy within only like 20 minutes. Very realistic there :gut:

It is totally different in missions but in free play I don't use

  • Patrol (Except on Woods map)
  • Police Helecoptors
  • Ladders
  • Battalion Chief (I usually equip them with a paramedic)
  • Standby - I have a prison van ready to be called out to carry prisoners
  • Cones, Flares, Vests

In the escort I usually take my time and set up a lot with cones, flares, vests etc. but during freeplay I don't have time to put them all away.

On Hoppahs new map? Theres 3 paths for patrol, one that covers the road by the police station going north and south. It covers that whole road and loops around by the train and such. Then theres one down around FS2. It covers everything south east of the fire station. Well most of that area anyways. Then the last one covers most of the area North and west of FS2. I usually send one on patrol when it leaves the police station, and that will pick up the path covering the whole left side of the map. Then send a unit to the doughnut shop, and send it on patrol, and last I send a unit to the area by the tunnel, and send it on patrol. This way each patrol path is covered.

Meh I use an EMS Supervisor's car and an engineer's van by the police station to fix anything.

Use the bomb robot a TON, though. Since traffic is horrible and the AI is seemingly worse in the LAMod map so I have to use the copter to get suspects sometimes. Use Chief's SUV all the time; at big emergencies, I send him there and then can get new units without ever having to leave the situation unattended.

And my police units only use the loop by the police station. Once in a blue yonder one or two'll wander out but that's rare. :nixweiss:

Ami, the patrol thing is because (i think) Hoppah, before 1.9, had the patrol script to pick a patrol path at random. Now it picks the one closest, so that why you have to spread out units before sending them on patrol. I know I have some what resolved this issue in my next submod.

Does any one actually use the stretcher teams to heal patients?

I do, I'll usually just have two EMTs or Paramedics in the ambulance, then once the victim is ready for transport I'll send the two of them out to get the stretcher. I don't care too much about money in freeplay, but it does save money this way (I think, haha).

The K9 doesn't work, so I never use it.

I don't use the SWR. I usually drop a USCG diver

The military. Though I do find the 5 ton's are very capable of loading up with medics during a big event.

The helicopters: The lifelight is used SOMETIMES, but other than that, I don't use the birds.

Cones, flares, barriers, vests, etc

Motorcycle cops: They can't chase anyone down, so they're useless except for traffic control

Well I want to keep game as realistic as possible so I am using a lot of those "eye candy" features.

Cones - too much hassle to set them up. Script for dropping cones without need to go to car for each cone would be useful. Just take "more of them" and drop them one by one. This same with collecting them.

Vest - eye candy for traffic control

Barriers - useful in VIP mission but too much work with setting them up

Flares - they look cool so I use them to make helipads and in Missing Child mission to bring some "holy light" into terrorists camp

Helos - must have for VIP escort, useful when I need get somewhere ASAFP

National Guard - weekend soldiers are used for Forest Fire mission (evacuation of the city) and as support in VIP mission

LAX Units - Normal ambulance in Airport mission? No way...

Ladders/Tillers - They look awesome with bigger fires, must have for every Structural Fire

Battalion Chief/EMS Supervisor - Always got one in case I will need backup

FBI - R u kidding me? How could I not use those badass fellas in badass blue jackets. Every hostage situation - LAPD securing perimeter and 2 FBI SUVs + Command Centre

Patrol command - every game starts with calling 2 patrol cars and pressing this button

What I do not use?

Red Cross - well... no blue lights... :(

Lightmast - I never have time for this and lots of cars and blue lights already makes the area visible

Gateway car - Criminals will never make it so far :D

I'm the same as szron, I get bored if I don't use all the features. Never use the red cross, unless I have a big scene and just use them for realism.

Just a few things I wanted to point out.

Cones - Um I havent used them in ages but last i checked you were able to drop three or four at a time, unless I am confusing them with flares.

FBI - FBI does not get involved in your typical hostage affairs. If it is a bank, they will be involved, I believe, due to a bank being federal property, but yeah I dont think there job usually deals with hostage situations.

Red Cross Hummer - It does have blue lights, well red lights technically, but it is just the two big spotlights on the front bumper and they flash very slowly back and forth.

I never use FBI. I find the fact that the "Negotiate" Feature is put infront of the "Fire" Feature. I was going to use an FBI sharpshooter to take down a suspect. I gave him the PSG-1, got him into possition, put my mouse over him and clicked and ... no shot ... The FBI guy had got up, ran up to the guy and was useing his megaphone to try negotiate with him ... while the guy was shooting him ...

I just use SWAT from now on.

Also people moaning about the K-9. Thier brilliant for taking people down. Just tell the dog to charge the suspect, the suspect keeps trying to shoot the cop and then gets attacked by the dog. While hes distracted shoot him with the handler. Works every time and doesn't cost too much of the officers health. Plus I've never had the dog die on me either. So :police::mug::12:

a lot of units in this game are cool, but not practical, like the border patrol, there's no mission or any freeplay event to accommodate them. Stand-by mode is cool, but I never use it, Its almost easier to find the nearest unit and point and click to the location, instead of clicking a police officer or fire chief, most of this stuff people never use isn't practical for missions or freeplay , and its way to hard to micro-manage all that stuff when you have a fire in one place and a bank robbery in the other, thats my opinion,

I use the EMS Supervisor purely because he can act like a medic as well as make it easier to call in extra units. Its so much easier just to click him and click the unit than flash the map to a fire station, try to remember where the dam vehicle you need is parked, then flash back to the emergency scene and then have to find somewhere to park the dam thing.

I have to agree with both of you, the BP is not practical. ATF, imo, could be argued just because they deal with bombs and you have bombings in freeplay. The EMS Captain and Battalion Chief are great. If I need another light force I dont have to jump to the station and back, of at an MVA, send an EMS Sup, an ALS Engines, and an Ambulance which gives me a few medics on scene, then I can call for additional RAs or an MCU if needed.
