LAFD or FDNY

Recommended Posts

OK guys or gals which is better the FDNY or LAFD

please state why you think which one is better.

I will start

Personally I think LAFD is better because they could put in a week or more at one fire any where in the state.

plus EMS is the same for both LAFD & LACoFD and they both have a the same Spec ops team.

Spec ops is the USAR team that goes to disaster around the world.

I'm with jab on this. I don't think any one is better; they both do their jobs as best they can. They both have awesome equipment (i.e. trucks) and since I'm from New York, I will tell you that FDNY firefighters are among the friendliest people you will ever meet. But still, you can't really rate them like this.

I got friends that worked 9/11 when it happened, But i can tell you this - NY does have its stuff together, However If 9/11 had happened in LA, or DC, or Tampa, or London - That fire department would have done just as good.

Both departments make selfless sacrifices daily - - In my eyes - they are equally in line with one another serving their country as the street soldiers of the world!

In my eyes, you compare things that can't be compared. In Flemish, we say 'comparing apples with oranges'.

Both do great work, just like all fire departments.

I don't think they're any better than each other (The firefighters that is) - they each face their own challenges and they met their challenges with high expectations and above. Every firefighter is a godsend to any community.

You mentioned:

Well, that's in terms of a bush/forest fire, LA and surrounds are situated amongst vast areas of forest thus the extra need for strike team deployments and specialist divisions whereas NY doesn't necessarily have all that surrounding bushland and the have a lot of equipment and vehicles suited to a lot of the residental, commercial and industrial areas they're situated in.

As Bart and the others have said, you just can't go comparing them, It's like comparing your mother with your father, or you and your sibling as such.

Since when is LACoFD EMS the same a LAFD EMS? I thought county contracted with private companies and city does it in-house?

The City won't stay that way for long on the track that they are on now.

AMR is pushing to do all BLS runs in the city to save the city money.

Now let me rephrase myself,

I want to compare high rise fire/rescue and EMS

since NYC is mostly high rise

I like a little more FDNY but only because of the vehicles :) the trucks are nicer for me

PS: somebody know why when it is a medical emergency in LA they send an ambulance and a firetruck? Isn't the ambulance enough? I saw it in a youtube video and in a program called stringers LA

As far as I know alot of departments in CA use this system. I think that they have a policy where they need to be treated within 4 minutes. The fire Trucks get there first and administer aid until the ambulance is avalible for transport.
