  1. I have a question for some of you folks across the pond. I've been watching inside the ER here on BBC America. Why do HEMS ride in on ambulances with the regular medical crew? i would have thought they would be reserved for helicopter flights, or do they also serve on the fly-cars too?
  2. I've only noticed it when we back the engine out of the station for training...It also give a warning bell when scene lights aren't on, and the doors are opened while the truck is on.
  3. It may also depend by the way the lighting is wired on the truck. Certain lights or warning sounds on apparatus are sometimes only available on certain light settings. I know our one engine will actually sound an alert and flash lights in the cab if you don't have the lightbar on... not sure why, probably just a safety feature.
  4. Good reminder that some cars have class D flammables...
  5. according to the stuff on NYCfire.net the total units on the call should have been: or
  6. Cool video, I'm surprised they didn't use a high rise nozzle. I guess the fire must have not been as bad further into the apartment.
  7. I know 36 pages is a lot to read, but seriously read at least the first post and see it is still in progress... On Topic: This mod looks very good, and I look forward to playing it when it is released.
  8. Makes sense that with on going budget issues we're having that there will be a level of possible downsizing to the force, etc. The important thing with that is that federal agencies develop budgets for years ahead of the current fiscal year. So it often takes a number of years to really see the impacts reflected in agency activities. It also sounds like typical FBI practices...slow and steady.
  9. I'd venture to guess The uniform style for that probably either predates WWII or was an attempt to get a vintage feel. It s kind of weird they get away with such an intimidating uniform in modern COPS and customer relations focused policing. I mean uniforms generally have a much more subtle intimidation factor.
  10. It's just a weird system around here but it definitely works for them. Firefighting get real aggressive here, because If you let it burn it will spread fast due to or weather down here. I'm still getting used to not having snow yet...
  11. All over the Eastern shore we have huge stretches without any piped water. The semi's serve quite literally as the first engines hydrant on scene, then secondary engines and tankers ( mostly normal sized ones) establish a shuttle point at an available water source. When the full system is in effect we can successfully run 1,100 gpm with a 4 mile distance between the fire and a water source. Personally I thought the concept was pretty weird till I moved out here too. Ironically that White Brush Rescue is one of the few fancier units they have here despite a lot of woodland, marshland, and fields. I believe it's because of the state forestry fire department and the Wildlife refuge, which owns the truck at the bottom among other trucks. The semi hazmat seems like sort of a waste too, but it's the only major hazmat unit for 3 counties. There are also a number of special support trailers that carry floating booms for waterways spills.
  12. Here's a couple of my favorite local units: That's a 5,000 gallon ex-navy fuel tender These may be rare most places, but here there are bunch Not the prettiest, but who doesn't love an all terrain fire truck
  13. Setup can really be whatever you wish for rettungstier. While there are no set standards for what any typical US department has. Some agencies have all the equipment they need, some have too much, and some don't have enough. The company I currently am working with is a great example. We're a volunteer fire and paid county EMS service in a primarily rural county. We're in the county seat, but it's not a huge place. We run 4 engines, 1 brush truck, 1 tower, 1 rescue, 1 boat, 3 ambulances, 1 hazmat semi truck out of the station.Outside the station we have a dive rescue truck, a command post, 3 hazmat trailers, an als supervisor unit, and 3 officer vehicles. That's a freakishly large amount of equipment for a single station, but it's just an example of how varied stations can be. Our county has another 14ish ( I think there's one or two out on islands I'm forgetting), a state forestry fire department, and a federal fire department at the wildlife refuge. Out of those stations, not a single one has the same set up as another.
  14. Traditional Q's aren't totally unrealistic... They just against FDNY regulations. The lists of units that have them are kept low key and I don't believe any units currently in the mod have them, but I'll look over the few I've seen again. I only know for sure that R1 has an EQ2B. Question: Is MERV-2 still the unit in the mod, because MERV-1 is the Manhattan MERV (came vehicle design and all just different number). *Took a look at the lists I've seen and only Squad 18 was listed, but since their crash in 2008 I haven't seen a picture of the truck with a Q. More interesting, if you look at pictures of the crash , it looks like they may have deliberately cut off the Q before administration and fleet maintenance units arrived. *
  15. There are a few decent videos on youtube of guys playing with ones the've taken off rigs. Problem is they tend to overload their mics in the clips.
  16. According to a site I was trawling earlier there are quite a few companies that have hidden Q's on their rigs. Rumors say the electric Q's were introduced to discourage "in house' additions of traditional Q's.
  17. They operate a pod system in the Special Operations Command similar to what agencies in Europe do with the WLF's. From what I've seen they're primarily collapse rescue pods, I can see several other pods at the SOC station on Roosevelt Island on Google Earth, but can't read them. I'd imagine they have WMD supplies etc. I can only find picture of two transport units for the pods, and it looks like the 1 may be a replacement for the first. I can't imagine they only have one transporter though. Stupidly enough I didn't check the FAQ on nycfire.net apparently there are only 2 carriers...but I keep finding pictures of them on Roosevelt Island, where they aren't stationed. I wonder if they've moved them or added a third since then.
  18. Anyone know how many pod transport units the FDNY has?
  19. Thanks for the info. I was just trying to figure out if you had them scripted, how you were doing it. Personally, I've been trying to figure out how to do it for a few months for my own work and can't figure out how to do it successfully. Love the work, the team has done a great job.
  20. I apologize if this has been asked, I'm too lazy to trawl through 200 some pages... How are the off map reserve units going to be dispatched? Will it be through the purchase menu or battalion commands?
  21. Generally in the US intelligence analysts are focused on international or governmental studies. History, and political courses are good to have. Agencies hire people with all sorts of backgrounds though, there are lots of psychologists, scientists, mathematicians, and even musicians that work for our intelligence agencies. Also strong skills in writing and communication, (giving speeches) are key for success. I'd also recommend technology courses, computer proficiency is a must.
  22. The only flood mission I've encountered, I had to just rescue the boy on the car. figured I'd post 2 bugs I saw tonight playing the fire missions... 1. During one of the medical assistance calls, there were no other emergency persons on the map. Their vehicles were there but it was odd that there were just random units there and no injured person in the building I had to gain access to. 2. I received a call for a small accident with leaking fluids, Unfortunately the oil slicks right under the cars couldn't be clicked on.
  23. Pierce puts blueprints up in the new delivery section, if you select a truck scroll down and there is usually a download drawing button. Also, most departments I know post pictures of their blueprints for new vehicles, so If you have some company in mind check their site. What type of truck are you looking for? Checked Seagrave's site and they're under the download tab under PE drawings. then search unit type. Also checked sutphen's site and they have pictures of them in the product section for each specific model.
  24. My end idea is to have a limited number of units available from off map which would included 3 additional ALS and 3 additional BLS.RA's. I'd like to have the EMS captain able to declare an MCI and trigger a response of multiple units. The problem I'm having currently is I can't get the dispatch scripts to spawn only a specific number of a unit. Insteadit wants to spawn an indefinite amount. As soon as I can get past that hang up things should come together pretty quick.
  25. what is the purpose of the tauch-pumpe?
