Without going into details: Covert the dds file* to a photoshop or paint file (with a program called DDS Converter 2, is in the downloads section: http://forum.emergency-planet.com/index.php?/files/file/295-dds-converter/), edit with one of them -or another program similar- and after editing convert again to dds file and save it in the place that was, overwriting the original file.
