Los Angeles Mod Vehicle Set [STOPPED]
itchboy replied to itchboy's topic in Mod Development and Concepts
Lights done by Flnn Rescue 12 and me. Skin is by Reaper. Model cab is by MikeyPI, everything else by me. God I love that lightbar... -
It all comes down to what the moderators and administrators deem to be appropriate for the situation. I am just providing my opinion on it. If they take a different route, then its what it is. If they choose to categorize, thats it as well. No matter what is done, there will be backlash and there will be a excrement thrown at both sides of the argument.
-
Naah, I'd just have it as "mods" or "submods", but thats racist and discriminatory apparently.
-
Eh, there will be war as long as mods are made. Thats the root of the problem. I get that your post is sarcastic and humorous but the problem isn't black and white. Replying to it in a joking manner does lighten the tension but doesnt make the problem go away. I suggest that mod segregation of some sort be done for the site. (how racist of me!)

This is the correction of your code. You made one mistake at the final condition for the 18th VO. Among other things, your Game::CollectObstaclesOnVirtualObject(VO_POLICE14, 24, ACTOR_VEHICLE); if(l1.GetNumObjects() == 0)is wrong because the condition does not check the GameObjectLIst 24 but l1.

Well technically, most mods arent made by a single person, but by a group of people, usually with each of the skillsets needed (modeller, texture maker, etc) I don't see whats wrong with the statement.

Off topic, and the answer is no. The AI is just too stupid to be able to perform such complex turns and manouvers. Traffic AI is also scripted to follow a path and they cannot be slowed down or sped up. This is a semi pointless feature IMO and not worth jumping through all the hoops to make it happen. Traffic breaks are just something thats beyond Em4.

Its basically a hydrant sunk into the water. Nothing too complicated really. An easy solution to a problem that plenty of people have wanted to see done. Personally, a scripting solution I could imagine is assigning a dummy object in each body of water. Then have a FF place a "pump" which at least 4 vehicles can connect to. The pump acts as the "link" between the proverbial water and the effect of the water coming from the lake, when the pump is the actual supplier of the water in the script. Its a mix of visual trickery and scirpting magic, hard but do-able. If I get a donation or two, I seriously plan on making this sript. (For real though, I might make it if I want to)

I dont think reskin mods will kill off the community. Fact is, everyone has to start somewhere. I'll be honest and say that my first Em4 mod was a lame attempt at reskinning the LA mod units into the local units in my area. That mod has since been lost to the times, but I understand the beginners need to have a basis and a trail to go on. I too believe, it is the constant rehashing of the same old dead beaten horse that will do it in IMO. More importantly, this dead horse is labelled as being alive and well, so to speak. Remember that the only thing worse than beating a dead horse is betting on it. It is kinda misleading for me when I see *name of mod here* and its basically just Mayberry with some textures swapped out and one or two units changed at the stations. I also find it partly offensive that the community at large considers these rehashes to be full mods by themselves, when in reality, they rely on Mayberry, which in turn relies on a mix of LA Mod, Brooklyn mod and some clan made scripts. Later versions of said mods also make use of my Montana mod volunteer FF script, although they were not able to implement it fully and some glitches occur. The retexture submods only exacerbate the existing problems the original mod had by often adding high poly, overlighted vehicles that further reduce performance and FPS of the game on weaker systems. The problem lies in the fact that it seems as a community, save for a few people, we are stuck in making the same stuff over and over again. How tired are you people of seeing an EMS Ford Expedition, Ford Expedition Fire Chief, Pierce Arrow Tanker and a Ford F350 skid unit? I'm sure more than a few of you know what those vehicles look like, because they have been burned into their minds. NNico's F350 and bama's Topkick ambulance are also another pair ofold classics that I cant get out of mind, and I'm sure the community cant either. We need to move forward from using the same stuff over and over again and actually try to learn the skills needed to create all new content. The reason no new content is popping up from those who do know how to create new content is because we dont see the demand for new stuff, nor do we have the security over our hard labored content. To me, the real beef is that the mods with real originality hide in the shadows and their authors get called as being "evil, childish, *insert negative adjective here* while the reskin submods get all the praise and 25 minute YouTube gameplay videos. Secondly, these submod makers get the same, if not more credit as someone who makes a scratch model or skin. If reskins can get as much recognition, respect, honor and praise as these.... ....then there is no incentive to make them this good. Its very disappointing when I put hours into making these units as close to the real thing as possible, but then I'm branded as selfish and whatever excrement people have been flinging in my direction. It also feels disheartening when a 20 minute reskin job gets more recognition than a full model which took hours of trial and error to achieve. Problem is that people are content with the common denominator of mods. If it barely resembles an American theme, its good to go. Thats pretty much it really. There doesnt seem to be much in the form of actual critique and the people just blindly take what they find. Another common denominator is the guise of "realism". Its a word that I believe has been bastardized to the point that having a button to start the engine of a vehicle is considered realism, but the fact that the unit made in Em4 is far from the actual real life unit is outright ignored. One more thing in this discussion is the lack of any non fiction mods out there. A vast majority of the mods are fictional and for one reason only. Because very few are willing to take the time to replicate an actual unit down to the specifics. Its a product of laziness and something which further stagnates the quality of things being pumped out. But I do not necessarily mean EmP is now coming up with bad things. Not at all, there are actually quite a number of promising and interesting mods that I would like to see released due to their originality and the determination, perseverance, good attitude and morals of the author. As far as I can see, and as I've posted above, its become a competition to see who can make something with the lowest common denominator and show it off with the best PR as possible with their fancy FB pages and clan sites. Not to mention their oh-so-many YouTube videos. I mean, does a mod really need all of that? I could understand filming a video yourself and uploading it, but sending copies to multitudes of people is just furthering the attitude that copyright and ownership does not exist in any form, when in reality it actually does.

I personally had an experience where a certain member used my LA mod content in a "private" mod, but wanted to share it via PM to various YouTubers. I had to tell him that private means yourself. For context, you dont go around showing your **** to other people because its private and only you (and your significant other) should see it. If you're interested in talking about a little something special, PM me.
-
No there isn't. The issue Mike is talking about is that reskins and texture edits to an existing mod do not make it an entirely new mod. There is no copyright issue unless the author explicitly states that his/her content shall not be used, yet a certain individual chooses to disobey this command.

Emergency 5 big Modding Progress by German Modders
itchboy replied to PexlexX's topic in General Talk
Ive seen it. Its a new fire engine with complete lighting and doors. Pretty awesome. Finally some action and love to that (honestly) bad game. It has its issues, but this will be the start of a new good thing. It isn't a big modding problem unless you are overly concerned about Em5 making Em4 obsolete. That day is still very far away because Em5 uses completely different scripting language and methodology.,models are much harder to create than Em4, and most importantly, the majority of us are still with Em4. I don't find it to be a problem. Em4 and Em5 modding can coexist quite nicely, although it is inevitable that Em4 modding will die out within the next 5-10 years. I myself may move to Em5 once I am able to upgrade to a much more capable computer. -

Thank you so much for being civil about this discussion and not just calling people such as myself and the moderators "evil", "greedy" and other negative adjectives. Short fast and loud: The vehicles we are recreating are not ours, but the very existence of the model and the labor and time put into it belongs to the author. MikeyPI's explanation says it best and I wish more people would know and understand the validity of what he says instead of labelling him as some kind of devil or something (regardless of the Kitler status above his profile pic) I respect your opinions and the ones of Jeff although I dont agree with some points. The GTA community has always locked their models due to a high number of model thefts. Authors do not like their things getting stolen from them. How about if I stole your car and then claimed it was mine? Wouldn't you be angry? People wouldnt be locking their models if people wouldnt be stealing them. In the same way, the content creators here would be more open if the community wouldnt just rip their content apart upon release. Its all cause and effect really. In context to Em4, authors like me are fed up at the apathy and attitude that is prevelant in this community and beyond, that what is there is free for all. No form of respect or acknowledgement to the time and effort spent by authors to create beautiful things. Another issue is the stagnation of contnent. Content here is stagnating because authors are apprehensive to release their content due to the high risk of their things being stolen or ripped. I personally removed all of my downloads becuase I believe that all they did was exacerbate the existing problem that nobody is willing to learn the necessary or even basic modding skills required to mod Em4, and would rather have everything handed to them in a silver platter. People here do not share the same values at all. As a community, we're pretty divided actually. There are those who just want mods regardless of quality. Others still who are choosy with their mods and expect a certain standard for them. Then there are the mod authors who meticolously recreate every detail of the vehicle/object/building/person they are intending to create. With that last statement, the point has been missed, that this game is a hobby, and what people like I do is an art form. *insert shameless self promotion here* Its no different really than woodworking, or painting, or building guitars. The difference though is that for this specific community, things have gone from comparing each other's work and enjoying what they have, into a complete pissing contest so to speak. We got clans left and right vying for the talented members to join their ranks. Modding teams going all out to out do each other. As soon as these trends began, the shared values the community once had were erased permanently. Whats left now is "my **** is much bigger than yours" The recent splintering of the community is the result of several members attempting to persuade their followers that the basic rules of this site are too extreme for them and that they would like to have another place to congregate. Well they do, but due to the character of these people, the only content they are producing are reskins of a reskin mod of the LA Mod. Pretty much that and nothing else. I personally do not have any issue with accidental lack of credits. It is those who are adamant and disobedient that I have a disdain for, and especially the backstabbers, as stated by MikeyPI. The one point that Jeff made that I disagree on is that, yes, too much restrictions will kill the community. But having no rules and letting it be a free-for-all would end the community just as quickly, if not, even faster than having too much restrictions. In this argument, both sides have committed wrongdoings, the difference though is that for the content creators to fix their mistakes, all they need to do is provide basic easy to use content and clear instructions onto how they are used. The opposing side though is a completely different story. Those people need to check themselves and their entitilement issues. A mod isn't a right, its a culmination of months or years of hard on and off work and that nobody regardless of status or usefulness deserves mods. Mods will come when they come. The only real thing that can be done to save the community is that an ultimatum be reached by the majority - that they respect author's credits, wishes, and efforts. The majority also need to learn the value of patience, and that mods dont just drop out of the sky. They also need to learn that the reason that no fresh talent is entering the community is becuase many of us are apprehensive to release something to a hostile, vitriolic crowd. This is just my opinion on it and I am not attempting to stifle the opposing opinions, or to argue with them. I am posting this so I can share my viewpoint on what has occured over the last 12 months here.

Three cheers for Reaper This wouldnt have been possible without him. Everyone please give your applause. LAXPD Caprice lighting vid. One of my hands-down favorite cars in the mod. https://vid.me/9fG4 -
FedSig Valor? I have one that was lighted by him. He did the lightbar and I did secondary lighting. It sure is insane alright. Here's a video of what we created. https://vid.me/9fG4 If I recall correctly, the coronas patch is required for this mod (and many others)

Rapid deployment for USAR. Get out of vehicle, get jaws, cut open nearest wrecked car. Script does not make allowances if the wrecked car is on fire. You gotta get normal FD to put it out. -

Still got a cpl issues with it, mostly vehicles returning to their original paths. Em4 really just wasnt built for this kind of abuse which is why I do not plan on publicly releasing this script ever. Its basically a tech-demo into what could possibly be done. Its the very limit of what this dated old game is possible.
