I'll check that out. What's odd is DDSConverter will open the Battalion Chief's Car, and it says it converted it, I even see the file withing DDSCV. It just doesn't actually exist on my computer... And that was with a locked file...

Good luck on it, chief. It's too bad that your pride and joy is being buggy, but we all love your mod and all your hard work. I hope it works out for you because I can imagine how annoying it is.

I'm having troubles unlocking .dds files FOR PERSONAL USE reskins. Heres my steps (I used the LEV, err tried to.) Renamed Light_Equipment_Truck.dds to Light_Equipment_Truckt.v3o Opened mod in Em4 editor Unpack Light_Equipment_Truckt.v30 (no visual confirmation?) Close editor Renamed Light_Equipment_Truckt.v3o to Light_Equipment_Truck.dds Opened DDSConverter 2 Selected Light_Equipment_Truck.dds OK button stays gray. double clicked above file name Pop-up window appears with progress stating failed. Read as follows: Event Viewer: Conversion from [DDS] to[JPG] started... Error: cannot load [light_equipment_truck.dds] Conversion has failed Total: 1 Success: 0 Buffer use: 0.5% Failure:1 Any thoughts?

Spaceport Crash Truck. Awesome.

Without any idea on the chase script (And you SHOULDN'T pass that out ), There's not much to work with. I'd blame whatever function halts the car, even if it were thee same as the Heli follow function does, but if it works on 1.8.1, it doesn't make sense to not work on 1.9. I agree with Brendon that although it seems pointless, it might be worth checking to see if it works without the tiller or the chase script. Heck, I'd test the map using the original vehicles, if they'll even show up on that map with all the bases... That way there's absolutely no way they have even some odd random issue in conjunction with new scripts, maps, and events. Or maybe a variable that didn't seem important in the old map that is but wasn't carried over? That's all I've got.

While this is true, there are still codes being used for safety purposes, and truncation of otherwise long transmissions in LA. Specifically, I'm looking to record over the 10-codes that are being used in the LA Mod right now, as they're not LA realistic.

Mike: I've been wanting to redo my radio transmissions ingame for some time, and I can't find any research on LAFD Radio codes. If you could give me a quick overview on codes, that'd be great. I still haven't decided how to call my codes out for standby and return to base, though I think they'll be variations of code 4 for LAPD. EDIT: Since La Canada is burning, and Rancho PV just died down, I imagine you'll be busy for a while. No rush, and be safe. We're all very grateful for your service.

I've never seen a bomb robot not actually be wired to the controller, so I couldn't tell you if they even have radio controlled robots. I thought they wired them to keep that from happening, same as cutting radio traffic in the area.

Let me see if I can't find Mike's quote on that... I remember seeing something about it a while back. Here we go: Mike's Post There's pics associated on his post as well. I know that LAPD CAN and WILL do traffic direction, but as Mike has mentioned, there's other departments to cover it. To be fair, I've never seen(although I know they exist) any slicktops or unmarked units with a T/A in the rear window like the mod has. It's nice to have it available, but I've only seen them with blue/yellow lights on the package shelf. I usually see more 2 cars in the light force blocking the road off than LAPD cars.

I believe it. When you're the first to make a purpose built car, there's a lot of custom work that no one will have support for. I agree with the price concern. There's a few features (They may already be optional) that I wouldn't make standard. Like the LoJack, redundant arrays, Voice commands, heck, half the christmas tree. It'd be less cool than the full model, but you don't need every car to have LoJack guides. That'd cut the cost down by a few itself. Just have a couple LoJack enabled chase cars in your fleet. LE will never fully step away from consumer models. There's too much benefit in having an otherwise standard looking vehicle in an agressive traffic area, or for tailing high risk subjects. The E7 might work out for LE, it might not. The Charger is in the same place. Lots of people like it, lots of people don't. The CV was in the same place when Chevy dropped the Caprice. I heard a lot of wistful lament when senior officers finally had to let go of the LT1 engine. Time will tell, and it'll be mixed reviews of those who want a purpose built car, those who can afford a purpose built car, and those who have sufficient need for a purpose built car.

I stand corrected. That's a North Hollywood unit. I'm from South LA County, which explains why I've never seen that one. I don't think that's a regular scheme, it seems too flashy for standard lighting. Sorry if I sounded harsh CFD, I was just trying to help. Xplorer, nothing you said bothered me, it's all good. I agree with your comment on the Interceptor's roofline. I've been keeping an eye on the Carbon Motors C5 myself. A car that LEO's gave input on seems like a great way to go. I see a lot of great stuff in that cruiser.
-
Hi Xplorer! I'm not an LEO, just a big fan. I was working on a job with LASD, but my resume wasn't accepted. I do live in southern LA County, in walking distance of LASD's STARS Center. I'm not trying to imply that I know even a percentage of that which Mike can answer, just that I can ease his load of responses when he gets on if I snatch up some of the easy ones. CHMSL is "Center High Mount Stop Lamp", the center brake light. BTT is "Brake/Tail/Turn", denoting the combo function of the light. I spend too much time around lighting, I guess. I have relatives in a major light manufacturer for emergency vehicles, and the lingo tends to rub off. And I'm looking forward to hearing Mike's responses on the CV. I've heard the rumors, but I don't think they're doing that for another few years. The Interceptor looks a lot like the Charger, I wonder if they're trying to compete... A sad state, considering LAPD and LASD don't seem to like the Charger in the first place.

I'll try to field this, and Mike can correct me. I haven't seen Hide-A-Ways on any LAPD MARKED units, or LASD for that matter. We have Wig-Wags, which are the standard bulbs with a flasher circuit, but I've never come across strobeson marked cars. I've seen them in Unmarked, but only as same-color as bulb. We don't flash the CHMSL either, as there's a regulation somewhere about the CHMSL being nonswitched to retain its message (stopping only), which I can't seem to find... If you're talking about the regular combo BTT lights (Brake lights on either side of the car), I haven't seen LAPD Marked units flash them(Though there's probably some around), but I've seen them wag on Slicktops and UMs.
-
Hoppah, your manual is AMAZING! I would point out one MINOR detail. On the LASD Vic and the LASD Van, you have the crew named "LAPD Sheriff's Deputy, not LASD. Otherwise, it looks perfect! ; Novius

Hold on.... I have to call you on this one. I've noticed lately that while all the units have amber rear turn signals, most of the real cars don't, but they all possess the hazard function. ALL U.S. cars have hazards... Not trying to flame you. I love your work, just thought I'd chime in on this one. Side note: Did the new update (LEV lights download as well, but Coroner LED's, side lights on Slicktop or UMPC or whichever had it)... did anyone else have NONE of those work? My lights are the same now as they were before, except no white BC running lights(Which I did grab the file that was supposed to fix). I'm just confused, I guess...
-
This may be more effort than you want to put forth, but this is what I did (sorry no screens, my 911fr is locked) make a copy of the unmarked named chp_slick copy the body of the Lapp car (I find the shading is more realistic this way than recoloring the um) copy/paste the door decals from the chp cruiser it adds a few steps, but it looked cleaner IMO.

A Guide to the LAFD and assisting agencies....
novius replied to MikesPhotos's topic in Los Angeles Mod
There's a lot more to tillering than opposing the driver, Ami. The point of the tiller is to fit a long enough ladder down congested and narrow roads that are in between numerous high-rises. With a tiller's rear steering, they can adjust the turn radius as needed to navigate the road condition. Turning the wheels of the tiller outside of the turn actually swings the trailer out more quickly, usually making the turn occur entirely in the intersection, not in the lanes beforehand, as to avoid hitting cars. The Tillerman would also turn with the Engineer during a lane change, so it's done quickly and smoothly. If it weren't for the ability to slalom traffic like this, running a tiller without rear steering would be as difficult as driving a semi in rush hour. If you want a semi at an emergency as fast as possible, you'd have better luck with hand ladders and duct tape. I hope you don't think I was flaming you, just trying to help Mike out a little bit. -
Sorry I started pumping info and then disappeared, Mike. As Mike stated, The SAR trucks are equipment haulers only. I suppose they *could* throw someone up on a backboard to carry in unusual circumstances (WAAAAY too rare to count as anything, the LACoFD HES can do similar), but it's really a Small rolling toolbox for mountain emergencies in LA County. As long as mike doesn't mind me linking his images... That's a good look inside the truck I'm referring to. I'll try and tug a few lines to get more info, but I think Mike's got all the info I'd pull anyways. @ Mike: Your pics of the SEB truck, etc... Were those taken at STARS? I get the suspicion I was there the same day...

Mike's 100% (As usual) on the Sheriff's Medics. We train our rescue teams stringently. That model looks like the Montrose Mountain unit. It's really well done.
-
I'm attempting a reskin for personal use and was wondering: do the models need to be repacked(locked) before they can be used?
-
I don't know how my plans for it will work out. Once I have it, I plan to try and reskon it as the swift water unit from LAFD. If that doesn't work I'll set it up as one of the heavy squads from LACoFD. If it becomes something decent looking, I'll post it up and see if Hoppah wants it as a submod. (the SWR would carry FD divers.)
-
That is awesome. You rock for setting it up. And thank you so much Hoppah.
-
I'm aware it's taller, which is why I want it so badly. Perhaps hoppah or Stan could make a ruling on this situation, as to whether older models may be passed around for personal use only stuff?
-
I'm wondering if the Light Equipment Vehicle (NOT LACoFD Heavy Rescue) Is still around someplace. Maybe it's hiiden in game files that I'm not seeing, or maybe someone has it. This request is strictly for personal use, and a repainted model is fine, as I'll be repainting it myself, either as a fictional model, or as an LAFD Swift Water unit for my divers.
