I noticed that Hoppah's link for the Additional Units sub mod is broken. Fortunately I saved it some time ago, so I'm reposting it. All credit goes to Hoppah. This mod features additional units that can used with Hoppah's LA Mod 2.1.
  2. Hey everyone. At long last, I have finally finished and uploaded a set of mission dispatches in the downloads section. These audio files replace the narrator at the beginning of each mission and are intended to sound like an actual fire department dispatch for that particular mission. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Hoppah did a fantastic job with the LAFD mod for EM4, but it still seems a little out of place. The problem is with the narrator at the beginning of each mission. Instead of a narration on how to complete the mission, what about an actual fire department dispatch, like the ones on every episode of Emergency! It took me a while, but I have recorded and put together twenty separate dispatches for every mission in EM4. Just download the file and unzip it, then read the ReadMe text for instructions on installing the files, which is super easy. (I still can’t figure out how to add dispatches for Hoppah’s 10 custom missions; if anyone knows how, let me know and I’ll make some more) Just like in Emergency!, I used the original LA County Fire Department SCU tones from the 1970s for every station dispatch. I know what you’re thinking. Hoppah made the LAFD mod, not the LACoFD mod. In fact at this point, an LACoFD mod does not exist. Yes, I know, but I figured it was close enough. I’m a die hard fan of the series, and besides, I’m familiar with the dispatches from the county, not the city. (If Code Red ever goes to DVD, then I’ll be more familiar with the city dispatches) Also, using LACo gave me more flexibility in determining the locations for each mission. I did my best to utilize real world locations in LA County and the fire stations in those areas. Please keep in mind that I have zero dispatching experience; I did this based on guesswork, examples of dispatches archived on YouTube, and what I’ve seen on TV. Any faults with procedure in these dispatches are my own. Also, I realize that I do not have the quality of voice that Sam Lanier had, but I did my best. If anyone out there thinks they can do better than I did, by all means please contribute. The files were created with the following resources: Audacity, for recording my voice, reducing noise, and running the recordings through a high pass filter to get that microphone sound. The LACoFD website, with addresses and apparatus info for each station. Special thanks to www.policeinterceptor.com for archiving the LACoFD SCU tones. All the tones you hear in these dispatches are for the actual stations named. Special thanks to voodoocat and that1fail on YouTube for their mission play throughs, giving me an idea for what kind of units are needed for each mission. www.batchgeo.com allowed me to create a map of all LACo fire stations from an Excel file I made. Entering the station name, address, and apparatus info into Excel, I was then able to load it into Batchgeo and get a map of all the county stations. (I know there are iPad apps that can also give me a map, but I only discovered them afterward) A few years ago, the Army sent me to Fort Huachua, Arizona, for a training class. One evening I was driving on post and noticed that two cars had met in the middle of an intersection. It was a light collision and both drivers were fine. They were both on their cell phones, but neither had called EMS yet. Ironically, the collision took place right in front of a fire station. I parked my truck in the station parking lot, walked around to the front door and pressed the buzzer. As it turns out, it was the dispatch center for all of Fort Huachuca, overseeing two stations. Nobody at the station knew that there was a vehicle accident on their doorstep, but they got into motion once I told them. While the firefighters were getting ready, the dispatcher called it in. I swear, it felt as if I was in an episode of Emergency! A few notes about the missions: Mission 2: I took the liberty of using station 51 for this mission, basically because I couldn’t resist. In real life, station 36 and possibly 127 would get the call. (Nowadays, there really is a station 51 on the backlot of Universal Studios, specifically named in honor of the series) Mission 10: Southern California is nowhere near the Arctic Circle. In this case, I found a fire station in Anchorage, Alaska, that has a HAZMAT unit. The dispatch tells HAZMAT to go to an actual airfield for an emergency airlift to the polar station. I have no idea what dispatch tones that station uses, so I just picked a generic warble. Mission 11: There is no oil rig located outside of Marina del Ray. In reality, oil rigs are usually located several miles from shore so that nobody can see them from the beach. But for the sake of the scenario, I had to put the oil rig somewhere, and Marina del Ray is where the only two boats in the LACoFD are located. They are not equipped to fight big fires like this one though, so the dispatch also mentions fire boats from the LAFD. I do not know if Marina del Ray is actually where the LAFD boats are located. It’s just a game. Mision 13: Anyone who has driven on the 14 freeway past Santa Clarita has seen the open pit mine I describe in the dispatch. Mission 14: While looking for a tunnel in Southern California to use for this mission, I found out that the Newhall tunnel actually had a major vehicle accident and fire a few years ago, resulting in three fatalities. I decided to use that tunnel for this dispatch. Mission 20: Believe it or not, I could not find a YouTube example of a dispatch immediately following an earthquake, so I made my best guess. The tone you hear is a group call for all stations in LACo. Heavy Rescue 103: You will probably notice that Heavy Rescue 103 gets used an awful lot. That is because Heavy Rescue 103 is the only Heavy Rescue in the LACoFD. My apologies if it gets a little old after a few missions.
  4. Most of us remember the iconic dispatches from the TV series Emergency! The station tone would sound with the buzzer going off in the identified fire station, followed by the dispatcher calling out the whole station or individual units, then a short description of the emergency, the location, and time of dispatch. But one type of emergency that the series never did was an earthquake, or at least I don't remember. I can imagine the scenario: a massive quake hits the LA area (God forbid of course!), and hundreds or even thousands of people need help right away. But with such a disaster, even fire stations and hospitals could be severely damaged or even destroyed, not to mention the possibility that the dispatch center may be unable to communicate. What are the dispatch procedures for that type of situation? Assuming the dispatch center is still functional, what would the first dispatch right after the earthquake sound like, considering that some stations on the department may have been knocked out of the communications net? I have tried to find examples of this on YouTube and other sites, but so far I can't find anything. I know that LA County and many other fire departments have a group call tone, but I have not been able to find an example of it actually being used. I have zero real world dispatch experience, so all I'm going on is speculation. I would be most grateful to anyone who has some kind of knowledge about this. Thanks in advance.
  5. I'm sorry, but I will keep posting about this until I get an answer. I have the LA Mod 2.1 on windows 8. I am trying to install W00ds map, but the game never recognizes the new map. I have pointed the installation into every map folder I can think of in both the mod and main game folders. I have verified whether the map is installed by using the map switcher that Hoppah included in the LA Mod. But no matter what I try, the freeplay map that loads is either the original freeplay map, or the LA Mod map made by Hoppah, never the W00ds map. What can I do to get this map properly installed and loaded into freeplay?
  6. Yes, running as Admin works fine. Thanks. Another question. How do I turn down the traffic frequency?
  7. The Configurator doesn't work for me. Every time I try to save the settings, a dialog box comes up that says the pathway to the .cfg file is denied. My only option is to quit without saving.
  8. Well, I don't have any modding experience. It might be a simple thing to make one of the existing helicopters in the game into a water drop by copying the air tanker and changing the costume, but it wouldn't look like a water drop helicopter. And I'm not much of an artist to draw one. Maybe EM 5 will have something like that.
  9. Is there any way to add a water drop helicopter into game as a mod of some sort? I'm kind of surprised there isn't one at this point.
  10. Thank you for your reply. I tried that, and there is still no change. Josh41 pm'ed me and told me to replace the dfreeplay.dds and dfreeplay.e4m files in the mod maps folder with the same files from W00ds. There was still no change. So I replaced every file of those names in every folder that has to do with maps in both the mod folder and the main game with the files from W00ds. Still no change. The W00ds installer says that it is compatible with version 2.0 of the LA mod, but I have version 2.1. Is that the problem? If it is, then I have no idea of how to get version 2.0. The W00ds installer inserts a new mod folder into the LA mod folder; this new folder contains another folder titled Los Angeles Mod v2.0. In that folder is another maps folder in which are the map files. The W00ds map installer provides an option to install the completely new 1.1 map (which is the one I have been trying to install) and the modified older 1.3 map. Just to see if there was a difference I ran the installer choosing the 1.3 map. As I expected, there was no change. Replacing every map file in the game with the new map files and seeing no difference at all suggests that I'm either doing something wrong, or there is no difference between the W00ds map and Hoppah's original LA freeplay map. I would like to think that I'm doing something wrong. Please help me. I am at my wit's end. I have no idea where to go from here. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
  11. I'm using mod LA 2.1 by Hoppah. But I figured it out this morning while searching through the forum posts. There's a control panel located right outside of each fire station. Clicking on that panel will bring up a menu of presets. The default preset is to empty each vehicle that returns to the fire station, which I think is a ridiculous preset, especially if you aren't aware of it. But at least I figured it out. And I also know now how to call in more personnel if needed.
  12. I reinstalled the la mod, then I moved the maps folder from the main game into the LA mod folder and installed the w00ds map into the la maps folder. Now the game won't start. I might have to reinstall the game now. I know I did something wrong, but I'm not sure what. Which map folder do I move to the LA main folder? Do I replace any files?
  13. This link isn't an update to EM 4. It's the site for EM 2014. Is there an update for EM?
  14. I have tried everything I can think of to get the w00ds map installed into the game. The game still does not recognize the new map in free play. So, when you want to add a new map into free play, any new map, what folder does it go into? I have already installed the map into the LA 2.1 mods folder and the mods map folder. Nothing works. Additionally, the map installer always says that the LA mod cannot be found, which is ludicrous because it's right there. I have no idea what's going on. Does somebody have an answer?
  15. Whenever I'm in free play, every time I send an engine or an ambulance to a mission and then send them back to the station after completing the mission, the firefighters get out of the vehicle and run inside the fire station. The vehicle has no personnel anymore. I can send that vehicle to another mission, but without any firefighers it doesn't do much good. Why do they pile out the vehicle? How do I keep them in it? Or, how do I add more firefighters?
  16. Apparently I'm not the only one with this problem. Where do I install W00ds map? In the mod folder? In the orginal game maps folder? I have the LA mod 2.1. Please help. I've looked through the forums for hours and can't find an answer. Okay, I have installed w00ds map in the maps folder of the LA mod. Freeplay does not load that map at all. I only get the original LA mod map. I've tried the map switcher as well it doesn't do anything. What is going on?
  17. I have the LA mod 2.1 installed. When I try switching maps with the map switcher, I see no difference between the freeplay maps. They both look the same. Am I missing something, or is the difference more subtle?
  18. No, you misunderstand. I'm not replacing any videos, just the audio narration at the beginning of each mission. I have successfully completed nine of these so far. The game plays the new audio files with no problems.
  19. I am in the process of creating dispatch calls for the missions in EM4. With Hoppah's fantastic LA mod, the British accented narration at the beginning of every mission just feels out of place. So I've set out to create emergency dispatch calls to replace the narrations. I've already completed the first eight. I've started making them in much the same style as Emergency! I also want to make dispatch calls for Hoppah's extra missions in his LA mod 2.1. However, I can't figure out where to place the WAV files, or even what to name them. Does anyone have advice on where to place the files and what to name them so that the game will recognize them? Any help would be appreciated. I should have the dispatch calls ready for release within a few weeks. I've never uploaded content like this before, so if anyone could point me in the right direction for that, it would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks much.
  20. Emergency 5? I haven't seen that one yet. Is it still to be released?
  21. I just downloaded EM 2014 from Amazon. It looks good and runs just fine on Windows 8. Is it moddable? Is it possible to make a Los Angeles mod for this game? I have the LA mod 2.1 installed on my copy of 911 First Responders, but the game just barely runs on my Windows 8 laptop. The game throws a fit if I try to adjust the screen resolution. I can't zoom in very far and the scrolling speed is pretty slow, even at the highest setting. Still, I love Hoppah's LA mod. I sit even possible to put it on EM 2014?
  22. I feel totally stupid. I adjusted the on resolution on 911 First Respinders on Windows 8, and the screen changed to a tiny window in the middle of a black screen. My only option was to start the task manager and then right click on the desktop to change the resolution back. But now the game won't start. It must think it's still in the new resolution mode. I have tried a system restore but Mcafee won't let that happen and I can't figure out how to disable it. I have opening the .cfg file in the game folder, but my computer doesn't know how to open that. Running it as admin doesn't work either. What else can I try? The game is a download from Amazon.
  23. In which folder do I install the w00ds map?
  24. I keep trying to install w00ds mapWhich one do I put it in?
