Darren NYPD worked on a NY mod for EM3 a long time ago, but he stopped working on it. As said there is a small mod in our download centre which changes the skins from the vehicles to NY style. There is a very promissing NY mod for EM4 in progress now. greetz,

If you are sure you do not have the ModInstaller you can install the patch this way: http://forum.emergency-planet.com/index.ph...ost&p=71950 If that didn't work you can try this solution (second question): http://forum.emergency-planet.com/index.ph...ost&p=71954 greetz,

Would have no idea, would like to try being mazed some time though looks like a cool experience. I do know the pain can be hell. We had a tv program here where they recruited new police officers. They were being mazed too, they were in an awfull lot of pain for about 15 minutes.

See the TECHNICAL HELP FAQ, I just finished the ModInstaller section. I think you'll find the answer there.

ModInstaller & Mods Help, I can't find my ModInstaller Normally you should find the modinstaller under start --> programs --> [publishers name] --> Emergency 3 --> Emergency 3 ModInstaller (for EM3) start --> programs --> [publishers name] --> Emergency 4 --> Emergency 4 ModInstaller (for EM4) start --> programs --> [publishers name] --> 911 First responders --> 911 First responders ModInstaller (for 911: FR) start --> programs --> [publishers name] --> Emergency 4 Deluxe --> Emergency 4 Deluxe ModInstaller (for EM4D) You can also find the ModInstaller.exe program in the EM3/EM4(D)/911 FR main folder, double click it to start the ModInstaller. By the way when you want to install a mod you can also just double click the file with the extension .e3mod / .e4mod, the ModInstaller will then start and auto-install the mod. I get the error message my ModInstaller isn't correctly installed, what can I do about it? This usually happens with digital downloads. Some companies don't add the ModInstaller correctly, causing it to mallfunction. If this is the case, you can try these solutions. For EM3: You can try to install patch 1.3 if you have the German or UK version of EM3 (see above for install instructions). If that doesn't work you can try this solution. It was found by CrazyLion425 in this topic (click). NOTE: WRONGLY EXECUTING this solution can SERIOUSLY DAMAGE your computer, so make sure you stick to the manual. If you don't trust yourself with this, don't try it. 1) Go to Start --> Run, type 'regedit' (without ' ') and press enter. 2) Select 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE' and press the '+' button (to the left) to expand the list. 3) Now select 'SOFTWARE' and press the '+' button (to the left) to expand the list. 4) Right-click on 'SOFTWARE' and select New --> Key. Enter the new key name: sixteen tons entertainment 5) Right-click on 'sixteen tons entertainment' and select New --> Key. Enter the new key name: Emergency 3 US 6) Right-click on 'Emergency 3 US' and select New > String value. Enter the new key name: Installdir 7) Right-click on the 'Installdir' string value and select Modify. In the 'Value Data' field, enter the full path of your installation directory. By default, this value is C:\Program Files\Strategy First\Emergency 3 Now, exit the registry editor by selecting the File menu and then clicking on Exit. The Emergency 3 Mod Installer should now function correctly. For EM4: If you have the German or French version of EM4 (so not 911:FR or EM4D), you should install patch 1.3 in order to get the ModInstaller working. If that doesn't work you can try this: 1) Go to the EM4/911 FR/EM4 D main folder 2) check the files present there: there should be at least two folders, Data & Mods 3) If the Mods folders is missing (some companies don't include the folder because it's empty), you need to create one your self. 4) Go to File --> New --> folder 5) Name the folder 'Mods' (without ' '). The ModInstaller should work fine now. How do I install a mod? Download the file and save it in the Mods folder of EM3/EM4/911 FR/EM4D. A downloaded mod is usually compressed into a smaller file ending on .zip or .rar. You need to decompress the files first. In the case of a .zip file you can use winzip, in the case of a .rar file you can use winrar. Simply select the file, right click and choose extract here. When the mod file is unpacked (=decompressed) a file with the extension .e3mod or .e4mod will be visible. Double click that file and the ModInstaller will autoinstall the mod. Once it's done you will see the mod appear as a seperate folder in the Mods folder and the name of the mod will be added to the ModInstaller list. You can play the mod by starting the game and choose 'modifications' in the main menu. Select the mod you want to play and press load. I get the message "mod package is corrupted", what can I do? There can be 2 causes for this problem: 1:You will have to redownload the mod package. Go to the download page, clear your browsers cache (for IE7: Tools --> delete browsing history --> delete files & delete history). Also make sure you accept all cookies from the download page. Now refresh the page and download the mod again. You should be able to unpack and install the mod as described above. 2: There is no "mods" folder in the EM4(D) or 911:FR main directory. If that's the case then you need to go to the main directory of the game using windows explorer and create that folder yourself (file --> new --> folder. Name it "mods" (without " ")). Now save the mod package in that folder, unzip/unrar it and install it as described above. When I try to load a mod, the game freezes and it is not responding. How can I prevent this? The game is supposed to freeze some time when the mod is loaded. Depending on your computer and the size of the mod, the time the screen freezes can be about 2 to 10 minutes. Once the mod is loaded you will return to the main menu. It takes a long time to load a mod or a freeplay game, can I do something about that? Besides making sure your pc is in tiptop shape there isn't much you can do. Make sure you have the latest videodrivers installed and that your hard drive has sufficient free disk space. Also make sure no programs (MSN, Internet explorer etc.) are running on the background. Some mods just take a long time to load, especially the Winterberg Mod can take about 15 minutes (depending on your computer specs). It is because of all the changes and complex scripts added to those mods. So I'm sorry but you'll just have to wait some time.

Crash to desktop A crash to desktop (or CTD) means the game shuts down on it's own (so you haven't pressed quit). You will return to the desktop and will have to restart the game if you want to play the game. Since there are a lot of causes for the crashes to desktop, there are also a lot of possible solutions. We will describe the solutions that work best in this topic. If possible we will also add the text from the logfile or DXDIAG file indicating what the problem is. That way you can self diagnose the problem and find a solution for it. If all the solutions do not help, then feel free to ask for help on the technical help sections of the forum. Solution 1: check to see if you meet the system requirements You can't run the game if you do not match the system requirements. It is therefore vital you make sure that your PC fits the system requirements. For EM3 the minimum requirements are: -1.2 GHz processor -256 MB RAM -Microsoft Windows XP or 2000 (but it is compattible with Vista) -Direct X 9 compattible sound card and video card -Geforce 2 or similiar chip set -Direct X 9 or higer installed -1 GB free space on the hard disk -Original CD must be inserted while playing -Mouse For EM4/911 FR the minimum requirements are: -1.7 Ghz processor -512 MB RAM -Operating system windows 2000 or XP (but it is compattible with Vista) -Direct X 9 compattible sound and video card -Direct X 9.0C installed (is included on the CD) -Emergency 4 supports the following types of graphic cards: GeForce 3 / GeForce 4200, 4400, 4600, 4800 / GeForce 5xxx and all higher versions / ATI 9500, 9600, 9700, 9800 / ATI X700 and all higher versions -1 GB free hard disk space -Original CD must be inserted while playing -Mouse -IDSN or DSL for playing multiplayer mode (DSL for hosting a game) If your PC or laptop does not fit the system requirements you have two options: customize your current PC/laptop to fit the system requirements (e.g. adding an external hard drive with at least 1 GB free disk space) or buy a new PC/laptop that does fit the system requirements. We recommend always checking if your PC or laptop fits the system requirements before buying or installing a game. Solution 2: updating your graphic drivers After posting your DXDIAG file you can open it like any attachment. In the beginning of the file you will see these lines of text about your graphic driver. The orange text part displays the last date on which you updated or installed your video drivers. The blue text part lists your drivers version. If you updated your graphic drivers more then 6 months ago, it might be worth checking for an update. You can find driver updates on the website of the manufacturer. The manufacturer is mentioned in the green text part. You can usually find their website by googling their name, but just in case: you can find updates for NVidia drivers here and for ATI drivers here. To find the updates you have to fill in your operating system (windows XP, Vista, etc.) and the name and series of the video card. You can find the card name in the red text part. Some websites also have a 'scan my pc' feature that can be used to determine the type of video card you have and automaticly searches updates for it. We especially recommond updating your video drivers if you can find one of these lines of text in your logfile: Please make sure you have the latest video drivers installed for your 3D card. ERROR: dynlight.vsf Version 3.0.0.0 or higher required! Solution 3: uninstalling un-used codecs Codecs are programs that are able to compress and decompress digital audio and video files. Sometimes codec packs can interfere with the acces to the game folders. The game can't open certain files and that causes it to crash. The solution would be to update or to delete the codec packs. Codec packs that are known to cause a crash to desktop are: K-Lite codec pack, Samsung PC studio, Nokia PC software, Magixx, Sony pc guide, ffdshow, Halli Media Splitter. If you encounter these lines of text in your logfile (alone or in combination with a driver error), you probably have a codec problem: ?BLFileSystem::Open("????",BLFM_READ): Could not open ?UIPage: Could not load 'base:UI/Game/VehicleBrowser/VehicleBrowser.xml' If you can't seem to find the codec responsible for the crash, you can use a codec detective like Sherlock (click and scroll down for download) to find out which codecs cause problems on your PC. NOTE: emergency-planet.com does NOT except ANY responisbility for the use of exterior programs or the removal of codec pakcs. Please make sure you read the warranty and user manual for Sherlock if you want to use it. Solution 4: running without anti-virus or firewall Because Emergency 4 enables online multiplayer games, some anti-vrus programs or firewalls need to 'give permission' to the game to start or to connect to the internet. This can also lead to the anti-virus program or firewall to block off acces to certain files. The best way to see if this is causing the problem is simply trying it. Just disable your anti-virus or firewall and launch te game. If it runs without any problems the anti-virus or firewall was the cause of the crash. A solution could be to update your anti-virus or firewall. Usually manufacturers recieve lots of complaints and will create a fix for those problems. Another option could be to set the anti-virus or firewall to 'allow' the program to connect to the internet. Most firewalls have a 'program controll option' that regulate which programs are allowed to connect to the web. If you add Emergency4.exe to that list you probably won't have anymore problems. We especially recommend this solution if you have ZoneAlarm firewall and you keep seeing a black screen after startup. That is usually caused by ZoneAlarm asking permission to allow the game to acces the internet. The problem is that ZoneAlarm uses a desktop pop up for this, you can't see that pop up after the game is started. Thus you remain staring at a black screen. NOTE: we strongly recommend you do not go online while your anti-virus and/or firewall is disabeld. Solution 5: increasing your virtual memory Virtual memory is an addition to your computers RAM memory. It makes sure that enough memory is available when extra memory is needed (for example to run games). If it is set on a very low number, it is possible your PC has trouble keeping up with the game. This causing the game to lag and eventually crash. You can increase your virtual memory like this: go to the configuration screen --> open the sytem menu --> click the advanced tab --> click settings (in the performance section). Now you are in the settings tab. Click the advanced tab, you wil see the virtual memory settings at the bottom of this tab. You can alter the settings by pressing the button and increasing the maximum value of the virtual memory. We recommond this solution if your game lags a lot and/or if it crashes right after big events like earthquakes, gas explosions etc. Solution 6: lowering the graphic settings If your game lags a lot or if you have problems with parts of the map not appearing on the screen correctly you could lower your graphic settings to stress your pc a little less, making the game run smoother. You can adjust the options like this: For EM3: start EM3, in the main menu select the options button. Now select the graphics tab. Set the detail level to 'low' and disable all shadows. Now press the OK button. You will have to restart the game before the changes have any effect. For EM4(D)/911 FR: start the game, in the main menu select the options button. Now select the graphics tab, set both detail levels to 'low' and disable all shadows. Press the OK button. Solution 7: setting the configuration file to read only Every time you start your game your logfile will be cleared. If you have a very big logfile or if your logfile contains some errors (e.g. because of a crash last time you played) it could make your game crash. If you right click your logfile and select propreties you can set your logfile to "read only", this will prevent it from clearing the logfile and rewriting it while playing the game. Since the writing of the logfile also takes up memory, it could prevent your game from crashing. NOTE: if you ant to ask for help on the forum, upload your logfile BEFORE you set it to read only. Solution 8: setting the screen mode If you encounter this error message in your logfile ChangeScreenMode(): VERR_NOSCREENMODE - Screen mode could not be setyou need to open your configuration file with notepad. You need to look (CTRL+F) for the values <var name="r_xres" value="..." /> and <var name="r_yres" value="..." /> On the place of the dots ("...") you need to fill in your screen resolution. In the standard configuration file the xres value is 1024 and the yres value is 768. You can also try to download a configuration file from our site (see below). Solution 9: replacing the configuration file In some cases people who edited their game accidently replaced something in their configuration file or changed another setting that doesn't work with the contents of their configuration file. The easiest option to fix this problem is to replace the configuration file. We have the original versions of the configuration file stored in our download center, just in case. You can find the file for EM3 here (click). The files for EM4/911 FR/EM4 D can be found here (click). We especially recommend this option if you recieve the error that your configuration file is corrupted or if your logfile states that the screen settings could not be set. Solution 10: running on one core (DUAL core PC's only!) In some cases people who experimented with their computer settings found that the game is much more stable when it runs on one core. We cannot exactly explain why this seems to work, but if it works for you it might be worth to try. Off course this solution can only be used when your computer has multiple cores. If your unsure wether or not your computer is a DUAL CORE, take a look in the DXDIAG file. If you can find the words dual core with the search function, you have a dual core. You can make the game run on one core in the following way: start the game. After the game has started and you see the main menu press CTRL+ALT+DELETE. You will see the taskmanager screen. Right click EM4.exe and select the option 'run on one core'. Now close the taskmanager and return to the game. NOTE: the only downside is that you will have to adapt the core settings each time you start the game. Check out this topic if you need a more detailed manual on how to set your game to run on one core. Solution 11: auto reparing files (Emergency 4, 911 First Responders and Emergency 4 Deluxe only) EM4(D) and 911: FR contain an autorepair function for damaged files. If everything else failed it's always worth a shot. This function basicly checks if the files on your computer are the same as the original files on the disk and replaces them if they're not the same. Insert the CD, open the CD-drive folder and select the setup.exe file. Run this program. The setup screen will now start, you have three options: modify, repair and remove. Choose repair and click next. The game will replace the damaged files and lets you know when it's done. Click finish and restart your computer. I'm not sure if digital downloads include this function. Maybe some of you who have a digital download can enlighten me. NOTE: when you choose this option you will also loose all the modifications you made to the game, since it works basicly like a reinstall of the game. Solution 12: uninstalling the game/mods If non of these solutions worked you can always try to reinstall the game or some mods. Some mods or adjustments you made yourself could have had greater consequences then you initially thought. The only way to resolve that is to start all over again. If the problem occurs with only one mod, you can choose to uninstall that mod before doing anything else. DO NOT use the ModInstaller to uninstall or remove the modification. In some cases files will remain on your PC making it impossible to reinstall the mod and probably cause another crash. It's better to manually uninstall the mods. Go the the EM3/EM4 main folder, and open the mods folder. You will see all installed mods displayed as folders. Select the mod causing the problem and press DELETE, if the PC asks you to confirm the complete removal click yes. You can now download the mod again and install it. NOTE: Although all mods are usually tested before someone releases them, it can still occur that mistakes aren't noticed and that the mod is thus released with bugs. Some of these bugs can cause the game to crash. The easiest way to find out if a crash is caused by a bug is to find a topic about that mod in a forum (this forum or the mods own forum) and check if there are any known bugs. Also if a crash is caused by the same thing over and over again (for example sending vehicles back to base), you can safely assume that this the cause of the crash. If other users of the mod have the same problem it is probably a bug. There is not a lot you can do about these bugs unless you know what causes them. Modders will try to find out and remove the bug by adapting scripts and other files. If your problem occurs in the normal game or with multiple mods you can also try to uninstall the entire game. First uninstall all mods manually as described above. Next: For EM3: go to start --> programs --> [publishers name] --> Emergency 3 and select Uninstall Emergency 3. If the game asks you to confirm the uninstall, click yes. The game will now be uninstalled. You will recieve a message after the game has been succesfully removed. Restart your computer, insert the EM3 disk and reinstall the game. Don't forget to install the patches if you have the German or UK version (see above). For EM4(D)/911 FR: insert the CD, open the CD-drive folder and select the setup.exe file. Run this program. The setup screen will now start, you have three options modify, repair and remove. Select remove and click next. If you are asked if you're sure you want to remove the files, click yes. Setup will now remove the game and let you know when the uninstall has been succesfully completed, in that case click finish. Restart the computer and insert the CD again. Open the CD-drive folder and select the setup.exe file. Run this program. You will now be given the option to install the game, choose that option. If you have the German or French version of EM4 (so not 911:FR or EM4D), don't forget to install the patches. If you do not have a CD but a digital download simply select the EM4 folder and remove it from your pc. DO MAKE SURE YOU PLACED THE DIGITAL DOWNLOAD FILE YOU NEED FOR THE REINSTALL IN ANOTHER FOLDER. Then reboot the computer. Now select the digital download and reinstall the game. If you have the German or French version of EM4 (so not deluxe), don't forget to install the patches. Again I'm not sure if digital downloads also include the setup menu, maybe somone who has a download can contact me about that. NOTE: if you are using a digital download (hopefully legal) please make sure before uninstalling that you still have the confirmation code required to install the game. WITHOUT THIS CODE YOU CANNOT REINSTALL THE GAME AND YOU NEED TO BUY A NEW COPY!

Patch 1.3 for Emergency 4 Where can I find patch 1.3 (also called patch 3) for Emergency 4? There are two versions of patch 1.3. There is a German version which can be found here (click). And there is a French version that can be found here (click). NOTE: you only need to install patches when you have one of these versions. If you have the US version, you do not need to install patches, in fact installing patches could corrupt the game! So if you have Emergency 4 in a different language or if you have 911 first responders or Emergency 4 Deluxe you do not need to install these patches! How do I install patch 1.3 for Emergency 4? When you have downloaded the patch for the right version (see above), you have to unzipp/unrar the files. When you have unzipped the files one folder will appear with two files in it (a read me and a file with the extension .exe). Now doubleclick the file with the extension .exe (either Emergency4_Patch1.3DE.exe or Emergency4_Patch1.3FR.exe) and the patch will auto-install itself, how's that for comfort! Do I need to install patches 1.1 and/or 1.2 too? No you don't. Patch 1.3 includes patch 1.1 an 1.2 so you do not have to install those patches if you have patch 1.3 installed.

Patch 1.3 for Emergency 3 Where can I find patch 1.3 (also called patch 3) for Emergency 3? There are two versions of patch 1.3. There is a German version, that can be found here (click). There is also a UK version, that can be found here (click). NOTE: you only need to install patches when you have one of these versions. If you have the US version, you do not need to install patches, in fact installing patches could corrupt the game! You can check if you have the US version or the UK version by following these steps: 1: Install Emergency 3. 2: Go to start --> programs --> [publishers name] --> Emergency 3 3: If you have the US version you should be able to see a program called 'Emergency 3 Editor' and a program called 'Emergency 3 ModInstaller' in the drop down menu. If you have the UK version one or both of these programs are missing. How do I install Patch 1.3 for Emergency 3? When you have downloaded the patch for the right version (see above), you have to unzipp/unrar the files. At least two file folders (SETUP & TNTfix) and a read me will appear. If you downloaded the UK version a third file folder will also appear (CRACK). Open the read me with notepad and minimize it so that you can read the instructions while you are installing the patch. 1:Now open the file folder called TNTfix and run the TNT-FIX.reg file, if you are asked to confirm the action click yes. Your computers registry will now be cleared (don't worry that's a good thing). 2: Now open the folder called SETUP and run the SETUP.exe file. NOTE: if this file won't run try running SETUP2.exe. This will install the German patch. So if you downloaded the German patch you're done after this has been installed. If you downloaded the UK version: don't worry this is supposed to happen 3: You only have to follow these steps if you downloaded the UK version! Inside the CRACK folder there are two files (EM3.exe and OPTGRAPH.dll) copy both files and paste them in the EM3 main folder (by default this is C:\program files\[Name of the game publisher]\Emergency 3). 4: Now open the file EM3.cfg with notepad and search for the following line of text: <var name="s_language" value="de" /> (press CTRL+F to find it faster). When you've found it replace "de" by "en" so the line will look like this: <var name="s_language" value="en" /> 5: Save the file and you're done. The english patch has been installed. Do I need to install patches 1.1 and/or 1.2 too? No you don't. Patch 1.3 includes patch 1.1 an 1.2 so you do not have to install those patches if you have patch 1.3 installed.

Usefull files I need to upload a DXDIAG file, where can I find it? You need to order the PC to create a DXDIAG file. You can do that in the following manner: 1: Press start 2: click Run (for the Dutch members: uitvoeren), a text box will appear 3: type 'DXDIAG' (without ' ' ) and press enter. The PC will now run a self test of its systems, it should only take a couple of minutes. 4: When the test is done click save all data (bottom of the pop up screen) and save the result. 5: Now UPLOAD the file with your help request. If you don't know how to upload, see below. DO NOT copy and paste all the information in your post, this would create an immense post with lots of space between the results. It is very hard to read through such a document which means it could be the answer to your question is missed. I need to upload a logfile, where can I find it? The logfile can be found in the main folder of EM3/EM4. By default this folder is loctaed at C:\program files\[Name of the game publisher]\Emergency 3 or; C:\program files\[Name of the game publisher]\Emergency 4 or; C:\program files\[Name of the game publisher]\911 first responders or; C:\program files\[Name of the game publisher]\Emergency 4 Deluxe depending on the version of the game you bought. The file is called logfile.txt Rember to UPLOAD the logfile with your help request. If you don't know how to upload, see below. Freeplay/Challenge Can you save the Freeplay or the Challenge game? Yes you can save both your freeplay and challenge games. If you press ESC, choose go to main menu. Now choose save game and you can save your freeplay/challenge game just like in a mission. You can load the game like you load any normal game. This is even possible in mods! In both modes you can also save your final score when you end the mission. I want to change the number of times an event happens in freeplay, or the number of cars I can call during freeplay what should I do? Mikesphotos made this tutorial (click) about editing your freeplay files. It will learn you how to change the events that happen in freeply or to effect the weather etc. You can also ask any questions about this here. How do you stop the car thieves, they shoot at police cars! There are two ways: -the easy way is to use the "track this car" option of the police helicopter. As soon as the helicopter has tracked the car the driver will get out. Now land the helicopter, let the officers exit and arrest the driver (if the driver is armed he will start firing on the helicopter, but don't worry it's bulletproof). -The second way is using the police roadblock but you'll have to now which way the car is going and the gangster will shoot at your cars and officers when he gets out (and they're not bulletproof). How do you solve the rabid dog problem? Use shooters to shoot the dog with rabies, when the dog is dead (takes about four bullets) and all the victims have been brought to the HQ, this event is accomplished. How do you solve the leaking hydrant problem (EM4 Deluxe only)? An engineer can repair the hydrant. Once the hydrant is repaired, this mission is accomplished. Note when you're playing an EM4 deluxe mod on a normal EM4 game you cannot fix the broken hydrants, but they won't do any damage. How do you solve the bird flu problem (EM4 Deluxe only)? Use fire fighters in HAZMAT suits to pick up the birds and decontaminate them in the HAZMAT (DEKON) truck. Also decontaminate all contaminated persons and make sure any wounded are brought to the HQ.

Missions Is there a walkthrough for Emergency 4? Yes there is one, but it isn't completed 100%. You can find it on our main site (click). Mission 5: bridge collapse Is there a way to stop the bridge from collapsing? No there isn't. After you've build the pontoon bridge the bridge on the other side of the river is scripted to collapse. You can however make sure divers etc. are all ready at the side of the bridge so you can help the victims as soon as possible. Preventing anyone from dying. Mission 7: hacker causes blackout Where is the net services building? It's a big building north east of the intersection where the crashed truck is at the start of the mission. It has the net services logo on top. See the screenshot: Where can I find the hacker? First have the engineer enter the netservices building. He'll inform you the hacker has a satelite on his roof. The hacker is in a one storie house on the west side of the map. So look for such a house with a satelite on top. If the building can be enterd by a police officer you have found the right building. BTW: you do need to let a firefighter destroy the door with an axe before you can actually enter the building. A walkthrough for this mission can be found here (click). Mission 11: Fire at oil rig Can I stop the oil rig from exploding? Yes you can. You need to use the tech department helicopter to let an engineer down on the oil rig. There are four valves you need to shut down with the engineer. You can recognize them by the flashing red lights near there controll boxes. You can land the heli on the helipad to let the engineer back in. After that the engineer can evacuate the wounded workers with the helicopter. Mission 13: disaster in open pit How do I prevent the fires from spreading? Use a water tender to cool the monster truck that is smoking near the lake. Use two more water tenders to extinguish the trains and prevent them from catching fire after you've extinghuished them. You can use an engineer to let the trains drive away (the controll box is at the north side of the map). The trains will only drive away when they're not on fire. Use a vehicle with hose connections and the tender that was cooling the monster truck to prevent the fires in the buildings next to the train track from spreading. I can't find all the victims, please help! Some of the victims are buried under the debris in the south of the map. Use search dogs to find them and a crane to lift up the debris. Also one of the victims is trapped in a small box of some sort, fire fighters need to rescue him using the jaws of life. Some buildings can be enterd, in these buildings there are also some victims. If there are (healthy) people in there you need to evacuate them because of the smoke inside the buildings (their health will slowly decrease and they will become wounded victims). Near the burning monster truck a car has driven into the water. Use a diver to find the car and a crane to lift the car onto land. A fire fighter can rescue the driver with the jaws of life. Mission 14: crash in Freeway tunnel Can I stop the tunnel from collapsing? No you can't, you can however prevent any victims by moving all civilians away from the tunnel entrance The fires are all out, but the smoke won't clear. The tips say I need to fix the ventilation system, how do I do that? On the right hand side about halfway up the tunnel there is a door. Behind the door is the tunnel's controll room. You can open the door with a firefighter. An engineer can activate the ventialtion system by pressing the big red button on the desk. BTW: do not forget to treat the injured tunnel operator in that room. Mission 16: protection for top informant How do I arrest/neutralize the terrorists? There are two ways: first you can send in snipers and place them at the cliff near the cabin. They can shoot all the terrorists coming to the cabin. The second way is to lay down spike strips near the entry roads of the forrest. The terrorists will get out of the van. You can use shooters to arrest them after throwing a flash bang. You can also place an armoured personnel carrier (SW) near the terrorists vans. They will shoot the SW but it's bullet proof, your shooters can now arrest them without much danger. How do I controll the fires? Place two water tenders and an equipment truck (all fully staffed) near the south of the village and two tenders and an equipment truck (fully staffed) near the north of the village. The fire fighters from the tenders need to get hoses and need to walk as far into the forrest as possible. The can stop the fire spreading towards the villages. The fire fighters from the equipment truck need to get out chainsaws and cut down any trees near the edge of the village. Also watch the sparks coming from some trees: the fires can spread to the areas where they land: make sure a fire fighter or tender cools those areas. Mission 20: Earthquake! Help me, I can't controll the fires The trick is to surround the fires using water tenders. The fire near the road isn't that big a deal. If you place two water tenders here and let the firemen with hoses go to the other side of the park, this fire will die out. The fire in the office building to the east of the first fire is more complicated, you need to attack that fire from two sides using four water tenders and fire fighters with hoses. Two of them stand on the east side of the building and two of them on the west side. Especially make sure the fire doesn't spread to other buildings. The fire in the north is the hardest one to controll The best you can do is surround the entire block with water tenders and vehicles with hose connections. Especially the houses north of the burning block (towards where the oil spill is leading) are at risk of catching fire. You can cool both the oil spill and the adjectent buildings in the north with fire fighters manned with hoses. All right now the fires are under controll, but a building is threathing to collapse. What building is it and how do I save everyone? The building is in the east of the map near a square. There are a lot of people standing next to it. You can use the police officers to move the crowd away from the building. Make sure everybody is at the other end of the square when the building collapses. Also check if there aren't any 'extra' victims. It's this building: After the earthquake I rescued all the people and put out all fires but the mission won't end. What can I do? The mission consists of two parts. The earthquake is only the first part of the mission. After you've rescued all victims and put out all fires a new part of the map will open and a second emergency will appear. You will also have to handel that emergency to complete the mission. This part is a little easier then the earthquake part since you allready had a similar mission .

Windows Vista Is EM4 compatible with Windows Vista? Yes, both EM3 and EM4 run on the 32 and 64 bit version of Windows Vista Home Basic. But because Vista has very high security standards you need to make sure that both your PC and your game are in tiptop condition before you can play. A few hints (from the FAQ on the main site by Stan): -Run EM4 in compatibility mode or on high priority -Run the game as an administrator -Give all users on your computer full rights to acces the Emergency 4 folder -Install the latest video and sound card drivers -DO NOT install any codec packs like K-LITE or samsung mobile phone software (all codec packs with MPG1 software). -Try disabling your antivirus software or firewall You can find more information about it in this topic (click) by Stan and MIkesphoto's. You can also ask any questions about problems with EM4 and Vista here.

Keyboard shortcuts & cheats What shortcuts are there in EM4? -You can use the numbers 1 till 6 to call a group of units (after you've formed them as described above). -The 0 on the numeric keypad can be used to send vehicles back to base. -You can press P to pause the game, if you want to continue you need to click on the pause screen with your mouse. -Press N to toggle between all vehicles, if you find the vehicle you're looking for keep pressing N to zoom in on and track that unit. -You can press the TAB button to call the mission objectives window and reread your briefing. -The HOME key (or POS1 key) moves the camera to the point on the map where you're vehicles enter the scene. -You can turn the lights of a vehicle off by selecting the vehicle and pressing SHIFT + B (together), you can switch them on again by selecting the vehicle and pressing B. -You can use the F1 till F4 keys to open or close the vehicle menu of the fire department (F1), police (F2), rescue services (F3) and technical vehicles (F4). -You can quicksave your game using the F5 key, you can load your most recent quicksave by pressing F9. -Press ESCAPE to open the options menu. With what keystrokes can I control the camera? -Use the Arrow keys to move around the map. -You can use the page up and page down keys to pan the camera changing you're perspective on the mission area. -If you press ENTER on the numeric key pad the camera will return from zoom mode to the standard position. -You can use the + and - keys on the numeric keypad to zoom in and out. -You can press CTRL and the left and right arrow keys to turn the camera Are there any cheats for Emergency 4? Yes there are, you can find them here (click). I looked at the page with cheats named above but the cheats aren't working how is that possible? There are different types of keyboards in the world. Germany (where the game is made) has another type then the standard keyboard. The keyboards are divided by looking at the top row of letters. These are three main types: -QWERTZ keyboard (German), if you have this keyboard you are supposed to type: fairy -QWERTY keyboard (standard), if you have this type of keyboard you are supposed to type: fairz -AZERTY keyboard (French), if you have this type of keyboard you are supposed to type: fqirw Another reason why the cheats don't work can also be that you did something between typing fairy and pressing the cheat code. If you click your mouse or of you press another letter on your keyboard the cheat won't work. In that case try again. Also remember: you need to type fairy during the game (so don't press ESC first!).

Gameplay issues I called my units and I heard them say 'on the scene' but I can't see them, what's wrong? Probably nothing is wrong; the units are just out of reach of the camera. When you turn the camera around (try a few different angles) or zoom you should see the unit. When there's a unit 'stuck' at the entry point and he's blocking the access for the other vehicles then you should try to send the unit that's 'stuck' back to base. It usually works and the other vehicles will enter the map. If it doesn't work you're only option is to restart the mission, sorry. When I order a group of shooters to shoot a suspect they stand in front of each other and get wounded by each others bullets. Is there something I can do? Apart from manually making sure they don't stand in front of each other, there isn't much you can do. Using two or three police officers max makes it al lot easier to stop officers from firing on each other. I can't find an object that is under water (car, barrel), what can I do about it? Usually when a car is lying in the water it will be indicated by skidmarks that divert from the road into the water. The car will probably be near there. You can tell a diver to dive in the area and he will attach a red balloon to the object so you can locate it more easily. If that doesn't work you can always click and drag a selection square over the water (just like selecting a group of units). When you stop holding the left mouse button the under water object will be selected. You can see its green energy bar very clear. Now you know where you need to tell the diver to dive. How do I scroll through the vehicles menu? You can click on the two square buttons in the bottom of the vehicle menu. Or you can use the scroll wheel on your mouse. In the normal game (so without mods loaded) there is no need to scroll thorugh the vehicle menu. The option therefore isn't available in the normal game. How do I create a group of units in the game? You can create a group of units and give them a number. If you press that number you will automaticly select that group and be able to give them commands etc. It works with personnel and vehicles, it even works with a single unit. You can create the group by using the following command pannel: Select the units you want in a group by clicking and dragging. Then press button 1 to start group mode. Next press one of the numbered buttons in section 2 to assign a number to the group. You can now use that number to call the group. You can also assign a number to a single unit the same way.

Versions What versions of Emergency 4 are available? The full name of Emergency 4 is Emergency 4 Global fighters for life. This game version is available in a lot of languages (French, German, English, Russian, etc.). Next to Emergency 4 there is also a game called 911: first responders. This is the American version of Emergency 4 it's exactly the same as emergency 4 only the language is (American) English and the publisher is different. Then there is a game called Emergency 4 Deluxe. This is the Emergency 4 game with some extra's like a few new missions, extra events in freeplay/challenge mode and a different freeplay map. And last but not least there is also a game available called Emergency 4 Gold edition. This exists of two games: the normal version of Emergency 3 and the Deluxe version of Emergency 4. All the versions of Emergency 4 are based on the same game: Emergency 4. So if I keep talking about Emergency 4 (EM4) in this FAQ you could just as easily read 911: first responders (911: FR) or Emergency 4 Deluxe (EM4D). Where can I buy Emergency games? Check out this topic (click). Or you could just google "buy Emergency 4" and you might find a store near you that has it available.

I believe you need to create a trigger or a virtual object and you need to name that the same as the trigger/VO where the units normally appear.

Freeplay/Challenge Can you save the Freeplay or the Challenge game? No, you can't save both games. However in the Challenge mode you can save your final score when you exit Challenge mode. I want to change the number of times an event happens in freeplay, or the number of cars I can call during freeplay what should I do? You need to edit the freeplay parameters. You can find them in the Emergency 3\data\specs folder. The file is called freeplayparameters.xml. You can open the file with notepad or wordpad. Mikesphotos made this tutorial (click) about editing your freeplay files. The tutorial is made for Emergency 4, but only the files you need to open are different in EM4. The changes you can make are exactly the same, so you can use his tutorial to find out what you need to change.

Missions Is there a walkthrough available for the EM3 missions? Yes there is an English mission walthrough, you can download it here (click). A short version of the walkthrough is also available online on our main site (click). Mission 5: multiple car crash What is an onlooker and how can I prevent it getting hit by cars? An onlooker is a spectator. In this mission four people will stop on the hard shoulder of the southern highway lane (near the gas station). You need to send in a police helicopter and let the officers talk to the drivers, the spectators will stop looking and continue their journey. Mission 6: an accident while bungee jumping Every time I sent my paramedic to treat the unconscious bungee jumper lying on the tracks he gets run over by the train and I can't do anything about it, what do I need to do? FIRST use the engineer to switch on both stop signs (there's one west of the railway junction and one east of the bridge). The engineer can access the eastern stop sign by walking across the railway bridge. You can only send a doctor in to treat the victim AFTER the stop signs have been switched on. I can't find or rescue the missing bungee jumper. The bungee jumper is under a fallen tree under the railway bridge. Use the crane to pick up the tree. Because the victim is surrounded by rocks you can't get to him with firefighters or medics. You need to use the rope stretcher on the rescue helicopter or you can use the fire department motorboat to get the paramedics inside the stone circle (and get the victim out). Mission 10: violent demonstration I can't extinguish the fire on the boat, please help! You need to use three fire boats; you need to place the boats as described in the walkthrough so that they each prevent the spread of the fire to another part of the ship. The fire will take quite some time to extinguish. Mission 12: crash of a military test aircraft My firefighter can't seem to pick up the pilot at the church, what's wrong? Two things can be wrong: #1 The ladder truck isn't in the right position. To fix this first send away all the spectators (use police officers or firefighters), then make sure there's enough space on the church square (no other units standing there). Select the ladder truck and click the green dot in front of the pilot. The ladder truck will automatically find the right position (tip: when it's in the right position its basket will go down). #2 You can't click on the pilot. This is because the pilot is "too small" to click. Zoom in and try again. If it still doesn't work move you're mouse around the pilot slowly, sometimes the pick up icon appears next to the pilot instead of on the pilot. Mission 13: a train is about to ram into the stations concourse I evacuated the station using the police helicopter (see walkthrough mission 11), but some people won't leave and start running around like crazy. How do I get them outside? Send in a few police psychologists to calm the people down, the officers can now arrest them and escort them out of the station. There won't be time to evacuate them all. I cut open all train wrecks but I still haven't found all the wounded and the mission fails because there are too many casualties, help! There could be two causes for this problem: -Some trains can be cut open on more places then one, so to free all victims from the train you'll have to cut two or three different parts of the train. There's also a victim in the train that crashed through the station wall, a firefighter needs to free him with rescue cutters. -There are also three victims lying under chunks of debris in front of the burning store, use the rescue dog to find them and the crane to lift up the debris. There's also one victim in a corner of the burning store and one in the store next to it. Mission 15: Gale front I can't seem to get my crane near the sunken car, what do I need to do? All over the road there's a truck lying on its side, it's blocking access to the sunken car. First free the driver from the truck cabin, then let a firefighter carry hem away from the truck and let a doctor take a look at him. The crane can now lift the truck and remove it from the road. After the truck is removed the crane can reach the sunken car. In order for the crane to pick it up a diver has to mark its position using a red balloon. Mission 17: derailment of a train The train explodes before I have my men in place, what can I do? You can't stop the train form exploding; you can only delay the explosion by treating the train driver on the site of the accident. As soon as you take the train driver away from the tracks the train will explode. After about five minutes fireworks will start igniting from the train, this means the train is going to explode within one minute. Pick up the train driver and get out of there! Mission 20: terrorist attack, dirty bomb! How can I get rid of the contaminated debris? You can use the tow trucks to remove the pices of debris, you do not need to decontaminate them first. Just pick them up and send the tow truck back home. Where is the hotel with the wounded undercover cop? The hotel is east of the initial attack site. It is between old city centre with the grey brick road (north of the hotel), the rail road tracks (east of the hotel) and the place where your units enter the map (south of the hotel). The wounded cop is at the north side of the hotel on the side walk. How do you stop the terrorists from the hotel from escaping? You need to stop their car using the spike strips on the MTW. The terrorists will flee via the grey brick road north of the hotel, place the spike strip there. Once their car hits the spike strip the terrorists will make a run for it. They will not stop and shoot at your units. So make sure you place some shooters well passed the spike strip. They can run towards the terrorists while others chase them. Arrest them and use an MTW to take them to headquarters.

Not that I know, the only requirement is that the sides of the map have to be a multiple of 512 I thought. So 1024 x 512 would be OK, but 2000 x 2000 isn't. greetz,

When you stop holding the left mouse button the under water object will be selected. You can see its green energy bar very clear. Now you know where you need to tell the diver to dive. How do I scroll through the vehicles menu? You can click on the two grey squares in the bottom of the vehicle menu. Or you can use the scroll wheel on your mouse (middle mouse button).
