I would like some clarification as to how the LA Mod fire engine hose connection mechanism actually works. As far as I know this is how it works: By default, engines are type TLF (water canon engine). If you attempted to hook a hose to the hose connection children of a TLF type vehicle it would cause a game crash. To remedy this, an invisible GTF type vehicle with visible hose connection children is spawned on top of the engine. Hose connections are made to this invisible GTF vehicle and not the actual TLF engine. Is this correct?

I think that language barrier in what documentation that has been provided by Sixteen Tons Entertainment is a huge contributor. A full muti-part video was made on how to use the editor by the game creators but it's all in German. Unfortunately it has yet to be translated so we're pretty much stuck. I'd like to move to EM5 modding but not knowing German makes the whole process much more difficult. The modding mill in the German forums seems to be at full speed though. The primarily English community seems to be stalled out.

SimCity will still perform much better with a dedicated graphics card. While running it on intel graphics is possible...good luck getting a consistently smooth frame rate. Plus "Cities: Skylines" is where it's at. It's what SimCity V should have been!

Los Angeles Mod Vehicle Set [STOPPED]

...but that's like half the fun of this thread! It keeps things interesting between releases. -
Look into Lenovo and Asus. Some solid options there. That and do your homework. Find out about any problems before you buy it, lol. Just something I found real quick to atleast point you in the right direction: http://www.hardware-revolution.com/9-best-budget-gaming-laptops-under-1000/#GC350 The laptop I had before my current one was a Dell XPS 1530M...loved that thing. Then when I was in the market again...I looked at the XPS...and at the time it had a fatal Wifi issue that essentially rendered wifi useless unless you sat on top of the router...so I ended up getting a laptop on the opposite end of the spectrum and don't really game on it for a multitude of reasons. If I was in the market for another PC laptop...I would look at the new Dell XPS...but unfortunately that seems to be out of budget for a dedicated graphics model. I have a friend who has a Lenovo ultrabook...and he absolutely loves it. The Lenovo ThinkPad still seems to be the brute workhorse of the line-up at a decent price...provided you don't care about how ugly or old-school it looks on the outside. I hate HP with a passion for several reasons (I'll spare you the drama). Asus is another brand that I've heard some really positive feedback about. Whatever you get....just make sure you have an AMD or Nvidia graphics and not Intel HD graphics...but that's pretty common sense.

I had a Cooler Master Cosmos when I first built my PC in 2009. It was really nice...but just too big! The thing was a monster! It eventually broke down about 2 year ago and I got a much cheaper Midtower. While I miss the space/cable management of a full tower, I swore I'd never get another full tower. It just takes up too much space. I now really enjoy being able to place my PC on top of my desk.

V-Sync prevents screen tearing, which generally is a good thing in most games. Since only 60 frames per second are being rendered by the GPU with V-Sync on, there may be some mouse/input lag, but in my experiences I've never noticed lag in any of the games I've played with V-Sync. Most monitors only refresh at 60Hz, so unless you have a monitor with a high refresh rate (which the vast majority of people do not) it makes perfect sense to have V-Sync enabled by default. It prevents ugly screen tearing and it keeps your GPU from rendering useless frames. In some cases it actually prevents other nuisance behavior such as coil whine. I play EM5 with V-Sync on and have never noticed any sort of performance difference with it on vs having it off....but then again I have a somewhat beastly PC. To be honest I rarely hit the 60fps mark so V-Sync never really takes effect. Edit: Went on to state my opinion but never really answered the question at hand: V-Sync can either be turned off in the game itself (I don't remember if EM5 has an option for enabled V-Sync. My guess is that it doesn't. So to further tweak which games use V-Sync you would need to go into your nVidia Control Panel and have a look around in there. If you have an ATI card...then you'll have to ask someone else.

Fire Station Control Panel Broken in ALL Mods Except Mine?
Chris07 replied to Xplorer4x4's topic in Technical Related Support
Well that's incredibly odd since that is NOT the map, or mini-map for that matter, that comes with the mod. It looks like things are cross loading. It's some of the stuff from my mod are loading with another. That is really weird. -

That's not an official version of Norhview. Where on earth did you find that? I've never seen it before? -

Northview has a fire station control panel? The fact that it doesn't have commands is because it isn't supposed to exist. I call ghosts on this one. -
Los Angeles Mod Vehicle Set [STOPPED]
Chris07 replied to itchboy's topic in Mod Development and Concepts
There are no exceptions. In CA the entire definition of an emergency vehicle revolves around the presence of at least one steady burning red light. It's a state law so it rings true for every agency in the state.Often times, especially on older vehicles with rotary style lights, the steady burning light is a small light or two underneath the lightbar. Perhaps the ALF tiller had one light and it was burned out in the video? -

I can confirm that CHP IS using the new Ford Explorers. I see them everywhere now. -
[In Development] Northview: Paramedics
Chris07 replied to Chris07's topic in Mod Development and Concepts
Work is progressing slowly. I'm a bit busy finishing up my degree among other things. It's sort of a Part-Time project right now. -
I don't think the 760 will play nicely with the PSU he picked out. If he were to upgrade the GFX Card the PSU would need a boost....hence even more expense.

The intensity is low...there are just a bunch of them and get a stacking effect. I'm not maintaining this mod right now since I'm working on a different mod, but if you want to reduce them you can in the editor and lower the intensity or even remove some of the lights.

Some people are able to save and a minority are not. I don't know how the save mechanism works in freeplay so I wouldn't even know where to begin in investigating this issue. Sorry for being absolutely useless in this case.

Zmodeler 3 question about person models
Chris07 replied to bama1234's topic in Modding Related Support
Haven't tried it yet but I'd imagine it can be added directly and exported...so long as you don't touch the bones. -
Must be a 24-bit .tga What is the size of the map texture. Maximum is 8192x8192 even one pixel larger will crash. If each dimension is not divisible by 8 it will also crash.
-
Well the issue seems to have resolved itself. Haven't had this issue in over a day.

I don't think he publishing real dispatches. Also, generally, dispatches are public record. What's stopping you from getting a scanner and listening in to your local dispatch? Nothing. That's why personally identifiable information such as names are NOT allowed to be used over the radio. There are entire websites dedicated to sharing real 911 call recordings...these recordings go on the television news all the time. They can be put out in public...and are quite frequently. Although as a courtesy addresses can be clipped out or replaced with dummy ones.

Zmodeler 3 question about person models
Chris07 replied to bama1234's topic in Modding Related Support
Just be aware that there is a pretty restrictive licensing policy and the developer has it really locked down...almost to the point of affecting usability. You can only use it on 1 PC...and the software enforces that. Often times I find myself having to manually validate the license before I begin opening save files or importing .v3os after launching it. While I do love it, I feel as though the developer was so concerned over piracy that he sacrificed some user experience points. Overall good software, just thought I'd warn you. -
Zmodeler 3 question about person models
Chris07 replied to bama1234's topic in Modding Related Support
It does. It also allows you to create new animations although I've had limited success doing it. I'm trying to go back through and add new animations for my upcoming mod. Editing person models is much easier with ZM3 -
I feel bad using ad blockers on small independent sites like this. I'm sure this site costs a fair amount of money to keep alive and having ads helps keep this site up and running. Unfortunately due to this issue I may be forced to use it. ...now if EMP had a way to donate money in exchange for being ad free I'd consider donating
