  1. In regards to the torrent talk, I will not pick a side, as I am not supposed to in my role, but I do recommend it stops here, because I really don't want to have to act, but of course, I'm bound to if it does get all warez-y. So let's just pretend no one has ever pirated/downloaded anything ever, and focus on the topic's topic.
  2. No support will be provided for torrented verisons. Posts related to are now deleted. No punishments will be issued pending no one comes back and starts again. See TOS. 4. N. 1
  3. The problem we've been facing the most I find, is that people aren't using common sense. No one on this planet wants to see a six foot tall flashing gif when they're trying to troubleshoot or see the next screenshot. Really, it's just trying to get people to be considerate of others. I understand the importance of a signature, trust me. That's how I identify many members. Like Stan's six dead userbars are how I find his posts, but there is no need for huge, annoying signatures. This is the problem I think we'd encounter with such an add-on, is although it can monitor size requirements, strobe light type signatures will get through. Thanks for the input though, I'm sure Stan will be looking into things like that, but in the meantime, the signature rules still stand, and as is true with rules that become broken rules commonly, I'm just reminding people it's still a rule
  4. Something we as a staff have been noticing as a problem lately is that signatures have been going rampant in size. I have a fairly large monitor, and just then, reading through a post, I encountered a signature that took up my entire screen. We are looking at changes in the future, but for now, the rules still stand. Basically, what we're looking at, ins't a pixel count, so it's exactly 600x289 pixels or whatever, since that's really a pain and unrealistic at this time. The maximum size we're considering acceptable for now falls in one of these categories Signatures roughly this size: This is acceptable with up two two lines of regular sized text, or one line of large sized text. That doesn't mean you can use the largest size the board will support either. If you want to use TWO signature banners similar to mine, that is acceptable, but again, the maximum size we're looking at is that plus two lines of regular text, or one of stylize, or larger text. The maximum size is 250kb, that doesn't mean you can upload a little tiny picture that takes up 1.2mb, it must fall into both categories of size AND measurements. If your signature is too flashy, and distracts from the rest of the page, it can also be removed, so no strobe pattern gifs guys. None of these rules are new, they're just being restated because of the huge problem we've been having as of late. Continuing with what we have been doing, any signatures in violation of these rules, as outlined in the terms of service are subject to removal without prior notice.
  5. Emergency 2013 has been stated to be an addon pack to Em2012 in the waiting period while they get Em5 rolled out. Don't expect modding to be added, because you'll be let down majorly. Em5, that's a different story
  6. I'm going to have to request either a helicopter drop for people, or opening up the back yards. I've played about 15 or 16 times (I try to keep up on all the mods) and every single one, there was one of the dogs in the backyards going rabid, and it'll just sit on my screen forever. It's a real pain
  7. Sovereignty in the modern world usually refers to a government's ability to enforce laws over territory. If you walked into this land and tried to enforce laws, you'd be terribly unable. Many countries you'll see on a map have lost their sovereignty when they were no longer able to govern their land. Usually other governments also have to recognize you, otherwise you can't really govern anything.... You're missing the biggest piece to sovereignty here, which is authority and/or power Antartica is protected by a buttload of treaties. Fly on down there, and try to evict one of the research teams there unless they pay up. You'll never see a country deploy a small military force to wipe your existence away faster. That is if they don't just laugh at you and push you into the ocean. The ocean, as mentioned is protected by the international waters kinda agreement. But have fun trying to govern the ocean. As soon as you start making laws and acting as if you own the place, you'll be dubbed a pirate, and killed. Most countries, even the non-death-penalty ones allow their ships to kill pirates. Uninhabited land doesn't mean it's not owned btw. That's like picking a spot in the middle of the woods and saying, I claim this the NewFoundKingdom. The gov't won't bother me so long as I don't pose a problem to them. When they want to build a highway though, they'll send in three armed cops, and I'll leave either dead or in handcuffs for obstruction. Owning the airspace is illegal too.. In America for example, they claim to own the air above their country. 10 Miles is a long way up, but if you start actually posing a threat to someone up there, you'd be wiped out in a heart beat. Finally, you can't claim earth as a whole. People own portions, and when you say, I govern this, but, don't worry, you can govern under me, you'll either be laughed at or erased. Logically, this is impossible, not to mention all sorts of illegal in many different ways. Basically, the whole idea I've taken from this, is I own your ice cream, you can eat it, and do whatever, but I still own it. And some day, I may decide I don't like how you eat it, at which case, I claim to own the ice cream, and you have to do what I say, elsewise you're in violation of my laws!
  8. The things you listed were mostly constraints with computers of the time, I would imagine much of it will be differently set up and better adapted to the standard computer nowadays That's a double edged sword, personally I would like to see it because it would make the game more interesting. Perhaps a happy medium needs to be reached, with a toggle switch in the options for that feature
  9. I have to make a small footnote, that before posting information, fact checking is key.
  10. I do know they had a guy here when 2012 came out, though I think he was just here for promotional purposes. I'm sure they do have a couple lurkers looking to see what they can include taht people want that requires the least amount of work, since work = time = money! I'm sure that when this comes out, if it does well enough in the areas needed, several of the senior members here, the modders in retirement may come back, simply because it's a new challenge. You could really only go so far with Em4 before it was same stuff, different car. Maybe Em5 will change that, who knows
  11. In regards to the money issue, there are a thousand, if not more free alternatives. Stan can afford premium hosting, premium forums and all that via ad revenues. IF you can't, you have to base your community off of free grounds. I'm not straying either way on the line, so I'll give two possible alternatives for free: Stay here, and base your operations here. We are the largest English community for this stuff, so you've got eyes on you for there. People also don't like having to sign up to multiple sites, I know I don't. Ask for either a subforum, or make two or three topics. We can create rules in the system here, say for example that there is a topic that only members of a certain usergroup can post in, and that could be solely for updates on the mod, or you could do as others do, and use the first page for stuff like that. Contact myself or Voodoo and we'll give the topic author a page of just his posts to edit and use as he needs. The creation of a support thread also allows for issues to be handled quickly. Realistically, everything can be in two or three forums. Emails can be done through millions of free hosts, and all that stuff. These topics can really be organized neatly if you ask nicely! Don't forget, facebook and hotmail are free, and everyone can keep up on one if not both of them. Second alternative is free forum hosting. I recommend this because a lot of them will offer portals, so you can basically fill it with all kinds of stuff, kinda like we have here on EmP now. This takes care of a lot of the communication side of things. You'll still need to look elsewhere for an email and all that, but c'est la vie. Now, if you still wanna have that kinda official look, domain names are dirt cheap. I think .com's are going for like 2 bucks now. You can buy one, it'll come with some basic stuff usually, like email redirect and all that, so you can make an email like admin@manhattanmod.com and it'll redirect to manhattanmod@hotmail.com for example. You can also set up the .com to go to what you want as your homepage, which might be this topic's first page with all the organization or whatever you see fit. There are thousands of free options, and I don't think it should become to a point where you're basically begging for money, as people don't like that. Notice how they walk away from hobos?
  12. Begging only pesters. Who knows what the modding feature will be like. It could change completely, so you've gotta wait to see before committing.
  13. Gentlemen, I request you place use English, as this is an English forum Bitte verwenden Englisch. Dies ist eine englische Forum Gebruik het Engels. Dit is een Engels forum
  14. It's also not a ramblings box. If you are just gonna come in and post useless stuff, it'll get pruned. There's no need to post useless crap to fill the void.
  15. Actually, correction: It can take a year or more to get enough people to staff a full game like this. (Let's look at ERT) To staff two trucks, you're looking at having to get about 6 in, and then it's pretty boring, so you gotta hope they have no where to go to play a full game. From my experience running an emergency RP, the ERT, it's been around for four plus years and it is only now just starting to reach it's potential. It takes a lot of bodies to make a good game, and those bodies aren't very high volume.
  16. You silly silly person. That's illegal, both here and there. Good job.
  17. Just a note, this is my final warning, ever. If this topic continues to have little douchebags bullies come in here and make problems, I will make a personal effort to remove all those involved. That's right, if you even so much as retaliate, you'll receive the same punishment as if you started it. This always seems to be a topic I have to come back to. Also patvrmu, you're new, and you're about to lose your right to post for a while if this crap continues. Gunswat, you're not, and you know very well I don't deal with people's crap happily, so I'll ask nicely this one time, DO NOT INSTIGATE ARGUMENTS please.
  18. Ding ding ding. We have a winner. Next person to start a fight in here is banned. I'm going to go back through and hand out nice little punishments to all those who don't know how to behave. Play nicely, or go home. Warnings sent out: Batisan, I don't know where you went crazy to, but go back there, not here. Bombeiro, Again, crazy, doesn't go here. If we're really gonna start throwing irrelevant information around, I fly kites twice a week.
  19. RedHawk's link has been removed under claims of model theft. Please continue with mod conversation. RedHawk can personally contact me if he has any questions.
  20. Hai gais. Just FYI, I am totally the bosscat around here, and as you may already probably know, I totally hate being woken from my slumbers. I mean I am a cat lol Seriously though, this stops now. Auasvan or whatever the hell it is, stop instigating. Seriously. I spend more time moderating your crap than I do everyone else. Put together. And I do a huge chunk of the actual moderating around here. How about this, stop trying to start problems, or I'll make sure that you're stopped, permanently. Sound like a fair bargain? As for CFD, and the others who fought back at him. Normally, I'd actually do something to the effect of issue warnings, make a mean statement, but at this point, I'll let this slide with a verbal warning. I know he was looking for trouble, but from now on, just click report, and sit back, leaving it be. I don't wanna have to issue warnings, but we're trying to keep this place nice, so let's just leave the fireworks to me or out of my sight, say in a PM. So that's settled. Ausavin, behave. Seriously. You're looking for trouble, and the people around here don't want it, it's not something they care for, nor do I Members, please keep the retaliatory fighting to a minimum, at least for the first 24 hours so the mods can take care of it
  21. Topic Closed Ausavin26, you really should learn to play nicely, or else your account will stop working DaDog, check post dates, if it's older than four months, it's dead
  22. If it freezes and there are no buttons available, you just have to destroy it, and tow away the carcass. It's a pain, but it's a game glitch, not a mod one. This happens in all mods, as well as the base game, sometimes it just overloads and forgets what happens
  23. Didn't one of us ban you a while back for not playing nicely with others? Well, here's another week, just in case
  24. Just a reminder to everyone on our report function. This is a great tool to get in contact with the staff if you see something not working right, or a person breaking the rules. Think of it like 911/112/999/whatever emergency number you have. If you see a person making posts that are, for instance, trying to provoke a fight, you'd report it via the report button beneath the like this box. This sends a message to all moderators and admins to check it out and judge it accordingly. You will not get a notification of us taking care of anything, and sometimes, it will be a non issue, and we won't actually do anything with the post. Remember, we enforce the rules. Some instances to use the report function: A member has created numerous posts in a row A member has asked for release dates A member has used vulgar language or curse words A fight, or flamewar has started A person, or bot, is posting spam. A person's signature is exponentially larger than it should be, creating an eyesore for other members. Some instances NOT to use the report button. You want help with a mod, game, or a post You don't know how to make a post, or use a function You want to contact a moderator personally Someone has hurt your flower-like feelings over a statement of fact, not meant to start a fight Small signature violations, and other small rule violations. (We don't mind one or two, but if you find yourself reporting everything you see, stop. You can over report too) We also have a downloads section where you can report files that are broken. This report isn't for things you don't like. You only report if the file will not download. If it gets downloaded, but doesn't work or you have problems with the actual mod itself, that's a problem to take up with the author, not the site. When NOT to use the Downloads Section report function: You don't know how to open the filetype The model doesn't work like you want it too You've found a bug in the mod You don't like the mod You have a suggestion for the mod These types of reports will almost always be deleted upon receiving, and we will not forward your complaints to the author, and in some cases of repeated abuse, after we explained it, we have issued warning points. I hope this enlightens you on how to use our Report system, so we can better serve you!
  25. Good luck building a real team without some ground work. Your best bet, is to, before going public, recruiting, privately recruit one or two people and get some groundwork down. Last time I checked, a good first person engine, with a few model packs is over a grand, that's quite the investment. If you're looking at doing all the model building yourself, it shouldn't be too bad, but getting high enough quality models for a first person usually costs a fortune, like a hundred or more per model (from pricing I've done.) It's not a cheap endeavour, so you'll wanna make sure that all this is looked at before doing anything. 1. Ensure that you have a base team. Find someone you know can do models, and a scripter, once you have those two, you have two people that can actually get away with building a game. Everyone else is gravy. Sounds and graphics can be done by a few people, but are the last things needed, as you can build an entire game and add in the sounds after the fact. 2. Once you have a basic team, find an engine you can work with. Once you have an engine that'll take the models, sounds, etc, you want to use, you can get started with the actual production. 3. Roll out a small area, a "ghost town." Put a building or two, a road, and a car, make a cutscene, or even a screenshot to show what you've got. People will be signing up left right and centre because there is actually something on the go. I don't offer my services ever until I see something worth while, and it needs to keep looking good for me to even think about continuing, and most people will think the same way. 3.5. Learn to say no. Although it's nice to accept everyone, most people that ask to join will actually only want in on the goodies before anyone else can get them, and won't actually bring much, if anything useful to the group. 4. Set goals, far enough away to work on, but not so far that they are impossible. Those are the most important steps to getting the groundwork for a game. It's easy to get the info on how to do it, the actual doing it is the hardest part. Many people can give the info you need, but to find people who can do the work you need is sometimes like pushing a 1 legged cow up 43 flights on stairs. On your knees. Just remember, don't rush in. It's better to take a year and have a good project, with a small team, than have a team of four thousand, and end up losing it all at the end of the first month, because the people weren't the right ones
