[RELEASED] Brooklyn "Borough of Fire" (BOF) Modification
MikeyPI replied to rafaelmfernandez's topic in Mods
The reason modding is kewl: you can make whatever you want a reality in a mod, even if it isnt something the original ppl had in mind and/or realistic, if you wanted you could put batman in the mod and have him running round catching the baddies for you=) -
Well have we not forgotten that it is not a good idea to bite the hand that is trying to help you? I'll put it simple for you, what is the game that you have exactly? is it EMERGENCY 3, or Emergency 4/911 First responders... Depending on what it is, underneath the downloads section at the top of the forum you can select downloads available for each game, and only each game. Once you know what game you have just simply go through the downloads for emergency3 OR emergency 4.
-
La mod 2.5 is for emergency 3, not 911 FR/em 4
-
1.3 is the correct game version, 2.1 is the last LA mod version released, as long as the addon you want to add is compatible with 2.1 of the LA mod it will work, extract the files to your desktop, then copy and paste them into the mod folder. EX :\game dir\Mods\Los Angeles Mod v2.1\ follow the hierarchy of the folders that extratcted to your desktop to know what folders to replace the files in.
-
If you have 911:First Responders, it is already by default patched to 1.3, so no patch is required, the patches only apply to Deluxe and em4 (non first responders).
-
Thats part of it, the other is how this game renders too, white for example is a tough color to use in it because of the lighting effects in the game it tends to make white look way too bright and kind of ends up looking pretty odd, as opposed to darker colors like grey where it doesnt seem to screw them up as much, alot of that goes to the texture reflections... most the time when I do a white car it isnt really proper white but an off-white grey color to tone it back because of the games lighting =/ A quick easy way to add some definition is to just select where there is some definition and use adjust the brightness to be a bit darker than the rest of the body and then blur its edges into the body. Tends to make it show the definitions a bit better without a ton of work.

What he means is that there are no details to the skin, it has no shading casted onto it, fender flaring, it looks very simple like someone swatched it with a paintbucket. With very complex models ya can get away with a basic skin job where there isnt any detail to it, but when it comes to using a lower poly model, the model lacks the accents to the bodywork that you can see so it ends up looking rather flat with a basic skin. But I do agree, critiques really only work when they are constructive and at least say why you're saying what you say, and explain how they can improve what you opine as being able to go better. Just saying looks bad, makes you look like a troll.
-
The masses out thar dun really wanna have to make anything, they want em setup so that they can just slide childs on the cars now rather than do the modeling.
-
Aww, but they don't want to have to do anything other than reskin it, they don't want to have to model things.
-
Either in that package or in the download center or in the sub-mod's topic there should be instructions on how/where to install it. They should have included a readme IN the rar file, but some of the lesser quality submods don't do this so you have to look at the download it's self for instruction or in their topic for a guide on where to drag and drop the files to. Being that each sub mod is different I can't tell you for sure what it changes and where the files must go.
-
Slightly longer than an average step van, again the step vans come in varying lengths too some are as small as 12 feet or so for the cargo areas.
-
That depends on the poly count of his new buildings, the heavier the stuff you add, the worse the load on the game.
-
Its fairly simple, the cab it's self is a med class chassis, meaning that it aint the same overall size as a full blown 18 wheeler rig, not as tall and not as wide as say the freightliner century... The box on the rear is roughly the same height as a conventional semi-trailer, the length is varied depending upon the model that it is, the common box lengths are : 20 ft, 25 ft, 30 ft. (not counting the cab on the front) Meaning that these things can vary quite a bit, the height of a commercial vehicle is roughly the same measured from the truck bed floor, this is done so they can park at a commercial/industrial district loading dock and be offloaded/loaded without needing ramps. The same is said when it concerns the step vans, they come in multiple lengths averaging 20 feet for the cargo area, some are longer some are shorter the cab area of it is not counted in the working length..

Shame, I'd have liked my opportunity to break em5 before the public release of it. =( I'll just have to wait to break it till later.. *woe me

The more helpful you are, the more you can be helped.... From what I gather of what you have is that you have downloaded the LA mod (hopefully the original by hoppah because that one does work). When you download this file it comes in a rar file, in the LA mod for example there is a PDF Manual/readme, and an application that installs the mod, but in most mods it is a readme and a modification file. In the LA mod's case, extract the files to your desktop (you can just drag them from the app like winrar to your desktop) and follow the instructions of the application for installation of the mod, as long as you installed the game to the original directory this is an easy task. Most mods come with a modification file in them and just simply have to be extracted to the desktop then double clicked and the mod installer that came with the game will automatically pop up and ask to install the modification. There are sub-mods and things of that nature that have just the gamefiles in the RAR instead of an actual installer or mod installer, in those instances you MUST follow the instructions provided by the mod producers since they setup their files to overwrite an existing mod's things for the most part and require special attention, but installing most mods is as straightforward as I have described above.

Truth is most major cities are fairly diverse, but in general they tend to have the locals doing dispatch because they are understandable to the populace, the key with dispatch is that everyone can understand them, so they favor people who have the ability to speak clearly.. IF You've called tech support in this country before I'm sure, you know what I mean by totally impossible to understand.. Would not do to have someone heavy accented to the area doing dispatch and having people like um what? when it comes to emergencies in particular. Truth is everyone everywhere is accented to a point, but some of them are really really bad and can cause the word they are saying to sound like something else.. Generally accents show on certain words very notably. Oil/Boil, Owl, Crawl, Water, Ocean, Canteen, Vehicle, Bowl, anything with ing on the end bearing for ex... You'll run into most accents on these types of words, and unless its totally impossible to understand I'd let it slide.
-
I'd have em speak the same line (s) even for a try out, that way you know their abilities, someone who can read clearly from the same set will stand out from the rest, just having em record Hi i'm mike and I'm a recovering philanthropist, I used to give money to good causes, now I put the money to a better cause.. My wallet. Then having tito say he wants a pony just doesnt give much to compare. Giving them the same basic 10 lines or so to try saying is a good way to know what they can do... Every region has an accent, you don't want someone who is supposed to be from LA having a MN draw on half the words, thou that could be hillarious from time to time, or worse a canadian accent, eh?

[BETA July 21][WIP]Los Angeles Mod v2.0 4x4 W00ds Map v1
MikeyPI replied to Xplorer4x4's topic in Submods [Not released]
Upgrading the Bearcat is fine and dandy, but as a modder when it comes to eye candy things its kind of hard to justify pushing everything to the foreground of your priority list, generally script/feature changers tend to trump things where it's going to just upgrade the asthetic of a vehicle, unless you're talking horribly out of date... If the LA mod were loaded with LTDs and things like that, it would be more of a hmm I gotta do something about that, or worse this thing: But La has alot of APCs in it so you're not stuck with just these old things. -
What you do is make a Script of the different sound bites you need them to perform, written 100% as you want them spoken, if that means getting someone to sit there and listen to real world LA emergency traffic then such is life if you want realism... For me I'd want things like "got another junkie down again, we gna need PM31 to roll" But we all know professionalism when it comes to gov was never my thing.

MikeyPI replied to Xplorer4x4's topic in Submods [Not released]
Yeah I was just pointing out what all changed on it, IMO it isnt a very important vehicle to update since it is still very much the same as the existing one, someone else updates it and it works well, great hijack it.. Otherwise I'd either use the LA or NY bearcats, either one works considering most apcs are fairly plain anyway. -
The bumper is from NYC, it looks like mein but someone else may have made the same one, also the chevy ambo cab was made by me, it can be found in the LA mod as a UHAUL truck, detatch the cab and put it with an ambulance box rear and you have the same ambulance.
-
Damn you, that actually would be totally awesome if that could happen, I'd so have him doing my dispatches if I could.. lmfao, anywho I've borrowed your topic long enough =) Anyone who can speak clearly and concise in english and isnt skurred of having their voiceover in a mod, especially if you are Morgan Freeman gimme a call, anyone else, yeah xplorer here can definately use ya.

I think thats what they mean by new bearcat, it just has the new F-series lighting, and a scoop on the hood that the older ones do not along with the newer mirrors, otherwise i don't see much difference (esp model wise). -
Goodluck finding people who speak clearly who actually want to do the voice acting, most ppl are stingy with their voices... I always wanted to git Mike tyson to do my voice acting, sadly his agents never got back to me.
