in the config file within the game you can find this line: <var name="r_fullscreen" value="1" />Change it to this: <var name="r_fullscreen" value="0" />Realize some video cards will not support this and they will crash as a result, especially integrated chipsets will be likely to not do this well. Also note sometimes the video card software is why the game is being forced into fullscreen mode, some video cards have options within their settings that can override the program settings and run what they want to. Such as forcing fullscreen when the game is told within it's own settings to run windowed.

What has made most of us take the perspective we have taken is experience. The devs of the game have came out with a few in between of EM4 and EM5, they were graphically improved in some ways but otherwise fairly useless to us as far as what we enjoy about the game. For a user who just wishes to use the default gameplay, those games may have improved enough for them but for those of us that wish to alter it, they sadly left us disappointed. The PR on the new game has been sporadic at best, that alone is a reason to pause and take the perspective of wait and see what it really has going on with it From what I have seen thus far yes it is prettier, the editor being improved is something one would hope they managed to pull off, just look at the reality of the current editor and it's dysfunctional nature.. For me I am not going to assume they've made a system that is markedly improved from the limited official PR out about the game, while all the fanbase hype and speculation runs rampant. I take everything as a grain of salt when it's soundbites because of the inherent method of madness in PR. Sell all the strong suits of your product, down play the flaws within it, such is why movie trailers tend to show you the best portions of the movie without mentioning yeah this is about what you're going to get. Most of us seasoned modders come from a mentality that graphical influence is nice, and certainly welcomed but it isnt our priority to just say wow that looks gorgeous and forget all about the actual function/gameplay.. To alot of us we want the game to be more immersive and engrossing, realize how disappointing it will be if EM5 comes along and it looks prettier, but most of the EM4 mods have far more function to them than this new prettier em5 comes out the gate with. From there what you would want is the features added by the EM4 mods integrated to the EM5 game to make it more entertaining? IMO I take on the wait and see what all they have actually done to the product, where they have stepped forward, where they have stepped backwards, where it stayed the same. Some of us go back to playing previous Emergency titles and have seen the progression (along with the occasional decline) involve in modding this game through EM3-4. I want to see what it has working for it and against it rather than assuming they say x,y,z so it must be 200% better than what I see!

Los Angeles has not used the GMC RTS for some years, the metro bus in the mod is actually more recent than the RTS is.

And with that we shall be locking this topic down, the mod developers can contact staff when they want the lock released. As of right now there is nothing useful being conveyed in this topic, the mod devs know what they are doing and what their plan is to do with this project. Since there doesnt seem to be much more in the way of trying to help them in a discussion, just more of the same whines about "They aint doing what I want, how dare they?!" No sense in keeping this going like it is anymore, it is just turning into a spam spree. This topic will remain locked until the developers decide they want to open the topic back up.

I tried to be helpful and diplomatic about this scenario but some people don't want to accept things.. Sometimes you don't get what you want when you want it... Such is life. Bossman, I can tell you that EM5 WILL be out before this mod is released, so you might as well not comment further since you won't be downloading it to spite your self. That'll teach them because they didnt give you what you wanted when you wanted it.. *Sighs... Anywho onto the mod team here... While I see your logic in EM5, basically what you're going to end up with is a "Basic" reskin/model package at best out the gate (prob going to have to rescale your vehicles down as well because their new road system I am sure doesnt include making them wider or narrower to suit the scale of the environ). What I mean is remember the original EM4 map and it's very euro feeling roads? My bet is that they'll be what you can drag and drop out with "ease", you won't be able to rescale them to make them fitting of north america. Without proper scripters to make new goodies you're kind of going to end up where you are now. Believe me, while my team has a scripter, we were approached over the years with people offering help, most of those people didnt pan out (or flat out backed out of it for various reasons). Given this is a hobby for all of us, and most of the more seasoned modders are adults, it makes time a premium to do these mods for the people, it's hard to manage a comprehensive staff when alotta people out there are basically mercenaries and hop from team to team, esp when you aint paying them to keep them on board. In the end most of the road blocks you currently are facing within em4 will still persist going into EM5, yes less people will be starting off in EM5, but if it permits you to port your models into it with ease, it'll do the same thing for any modder that takes the time to do it. Thus, you won't be the only game in town out there and the same issues with finding people will still remain because those people will be on the same footing as you, learning a new system and simply porting in existing works. (Assuming this indeed works as easy as people think it will). In the end it is your guys call on how you want to go about it with your mod, because after all it is your mod to work with. A few insights that I've picked up is that sometimes its better to say less and let the interest in the mod decline rather than to try to keep people informed and tell them everything.. People will appreciate that something is done when they get it, most of the "mods" that are in dev recently are just simply reskins and mis-mashings of other modder's stuff into their "new" mod. These type of mods don't take nearly as long to develop as new content does, but when people see these mods being pumped out they assume that "oh they managed to make a mod in a month, why is this one taking so long". It's total ignorance to the process, but I expect no less since they are speaking merely to try to push their agenda of making you rush the project along. Rushing the project results in a defective product that they'll then complain about as well. It is a lose lose situation no matter how you slice it. Pick what you want to do, realize that whatever time you have that you don't wish to invest into learning EM4's framework will still be a wall when EM5 comes along. They claim the editor is easier to use, which one would hope it is, it certainly can't get worse... But even still any "new" or evolutionary content would require the training wheels to come off and for the devs to work up their own new items. Again without such skills it'll just end up a reskin/model swap mod not unlike what you can get away with in EM4 if need be. That's just my thoughts on it, don't take it as me saying what you should do or shouldnt, in the end it is totally up to you guys to figure out what you wanna do with this mod and what you think is best for the mod. If you guys want this topic locked until a later date feel free to ask any of us staff and we'll throw the lock on it since it is fruitless to continue the >( GIMME! I WANT nonsense at this time. Take care and goodluck.

If I were in your shoes, I would take the time currently available to you to work on the EM4 version business as usual. IF EM5 is the holy grail everyone wants to believe it is and it is a better solution, then there is nothing to prevent progressing forward in that format instead. Everyone forgets that LAmod was EM3 first and jumped to 4 when the time was appropriate... By going completely dead in EM4 and jumping to a path in em5 without even knowing EM5's true capabilities is an error in my opinion. Who knows maybe em5 will live up to the hype, but even if it does you will alienate a good deal of the base of followers who can't afford to play the game because of the cost of the game and/or performance of their machines restricting this. I personally would run the EM4 version and when the time comes discontinue it for a new version specifically designed for the new capabilities everyone thinks will be, rather than assuming all the hype and the rumors are true. For all we know the game could just render prettier but have the same exact type of models underneath it all... Ya just dunno till you see the end-product in all it's shame or glory. IMO EM5 PR has been spotty at best, kinda like a movie that shows u all the great stuff in the trailer but doesnt tell ya that's all there is to it.

Oshkosh in general usage is considered to be a heavy duty truck co. They generally make vehicles for the US military. Stryker is a corp that produces stretchers. In the end if you are looking for the Fire apparatus version of a striker, I would suggest looking into german mod makers, they may have something similar in one of their varients. Far as I know most of them on this site use the LA mod version of the crash tender as a base.

They are not going to change the game's functions to be more manual in that respect, I can pretty much assure you of that. This game isnt a simulation, so you can bank they will stick with simple functions like the straight basket on the end of the ladder as has been seen in previous versions of the game. I do not see them making a more complex ladder just because it looks cooler when still the bulk of ladder functions are done in the traditional way. Realize they aint re-inventing the wheel when it comes to EM5. I would expect a bit more "intelligent" function of the game, with a very minor change to the way you go about doing things in the game, and mostly a graphical improvement. I would not expect this game to become a simulator in any way what so ever to where you have the option to choose how to deploy and why.

A good UV Mapping and basic model Program
MikeyPI replied to helljumper51's topic in Mod Development and Concepts
I hate z2 for uv mapping as well, I use Z1 which works a good bit diff (you work in polygonal mode to select what u want to UV instead of vertices).. Makes it a bit easier to get exactly what you want and only what you want. -
A good UV Mapping and basic model Program
MikeyPI replied to helljumper51's topic in Mod Development and Concepts
Not at all true, you just need to be able to put out in a format that Z2 can interpret correctly in order to dump out of that in V3O.... I use Z1 instead of Z2 to do my work (I find UV easier in that one) but it can interpret my models correctly making it easy to transfer in. Some formats lose UV mapping as a result of export/import, some don't. Trial and error gets you a method to your own madness you prefer. Just because YOUR apps don't have V3O doesnt mean that it can't be used. Z2 just has to be able to take it in and dump it as v3o without much hassle. -
Best fire truck for urban areas?
MikeyPI replied to salvador.c's topic in Emergency and Rescue services
It is a "marder IFV" that was reconfigured for fire fighting uses, I think it is from germany, but I'm not certain of this. -
Best fire truck for urban areas?
MikeyPI replied to salvador.c's topic in Emergency and Rescue services
again another great urban FF vehicle, not only can it fight fires but it can also survive most if not all small arms fire, relocate buildings, and mow down cars. My idea of a perfect fire apparatus. -
SALT WATER SPRINGS MOD (FIKTIV)
MikeyPI replied to emsfan112's topic in Mod Development and Concepts
Why so many things so little time, =-( You really need an attitude adjustment, I'm going to warn you actual for this because you've been verbally warned of this before. IF you want to offer critiques, do so with some sort of constructive information so they can improve their content. Just saying looks bad, it's boring isnt at all helpful to them in making their mods better. I could go into your topic and tear you apart if you'd like, bet you wouldnt like it anymore than others do. So many issues =-( You're new but you gotta understand the rules of the road so to speak, can't just hop in a car because you think you can drive when you know nothing of how to do it legally. So here's one, don't double post.. When you make a post and it's the last entered comment, use the edit button on the bottom right of the post to alter your existing post. The exception to this is as a modder you make a post and 1-2 days later you come out with some new content/info that is pertinent then you may post again, doing so in the same day, let alone the same hour is just bumping the topic needlessly. Secondly, you can't just roam round jacking content from other mods, verify that you will be permitted to reskin/use any content that you wish to use, this saves you time wasted creating something that someone may not let you use in the first place. It also prevents upsetting people that put their time into the original files. Realize some people don't want their content pimped to high heaven, they want it exclusive and this needs to be respected. Most people will permit you to use it with caveats that you credit them w/ the screens and in the readme in the release. EM4 mods arent open-source where you can just take what you want, not a single one of them is, all of them have readmes for a reason. READ the readme and see what it says regarding alteration of the content and who is responsible for said content. Contact those people going forward. -
Best fire truck for urban areas?
MikeyPI replied to salvador.c's topic in Emergency and Rescue services
Now now don't say oh that would get stuck everywhere, fact is it would just run right over/through whatever was in it's way, thus making it an ideal urban ff vehicle. Car on the corner? not anymore it isnt, it's under the wheels and being squished. Building too close? It won't be once this is done with making the turn, it is not only a FF apparatus but an urban renewal tool. This thing is just weird. -
The sirens work, so it is a local issue, from the sounds of it you prob need to get k-lite codec pack to make your wmp able to play these files, which should resolve the issue with the sirens not working I believe. If it works in WMP it'll work in the game, the game doesnt use VLC so it doesnt work as a suitable "test"

That Good ol' CTD Again

http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=8109 http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows+7+-+64 First one is a shot in the dark, may help you out, the 2nd one is more likely to have an impact than the first I have an 8400 my driver ver is much much newer than yours, you may not require the same version as I have but yours looks like the one it shipped with prolly instead of a newer ver. Chances are upgrading the 2nd one will give u newer drivers and make it more cooperative for em4. Make sure that you run the game as an admin as well, on the newer systems it has to be ran as admin b/c of UAC. You possibly need this as well: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17851 -
That Good ol' CTD Again
MikeyPI replied to John Robert Upchurch's topic in Technical Related Support
I run win8, it ships with 11 I believe it is, when you install the redistr. ver of dx 8/9 or whichever you do, it is just filling in the missing portions of the existing dx framework that works fine, it just is missing the older goodies that certain games, including this one required. Sucks but for whatever reason they made most newer windows (vista/7/8) with the idea that they would phase out the old technologies, regardless that some of us enjoy the old stuff and want to be able to play with it. I know you said you could play the videos manually (I hope you tried them in windows media player because thats the one that matters for the "test" related to this game). I am going by the errors in your logfiles to come to my conclusions as to why your game is crashing, the error it is displaying chases back to it being unable to play the intro videos. If dx 9 is installed and k lite is installed and wmp can open the videos directly and they load correctly, then the only other potential thing I can come up with is your video card drivers may be the culprit. I do not have your specific card, so I would be guessing as to whether that specific one can play the game correctly or not. On previous machines Ive had certain drivers were required for optimum performance on games (not always the latest version of the drivers). -
State of decay (horrible pic but most of em are dented n bloodied) This game. This game State of decay's (note it was reskinned by someone in this picture again hard to find an undamaged/bloodied pic). The other cop cars idk where they came from but those two are identical base models with reskin jobs on em

MikeyPI replied to John Robert Upchurch's topic in Technical Related Support
The issue that is getting him I believe is related to the fact it can't play the videos... Install K-lite codec pack and as I said you can also try dx9.0c. -
Whats a trip to me is that nobody seemed to notice these people are going to likely be sued. They jacked their truck and cop car from a game called state of decay. By looking at it, prob where they based their framework on too. If it is they're going to have a very short stint.

That Good ol' CTD Again
MikeyPI replied to John Robert Upchurch's topic in Technical Related Support
Did you try installing directx 9.0 manually? You have win7 and dx11 but on older games you sometimes require things that were only available in older versions of directx. This game requires DX9.0c in order to run correctly, on newer machines they don't ship with these older versions included in them so you gotta install the older ver in spite of the fact that yours is newer. -
Well it's a double edged sword, to make mis-informed comments one way or another is a poor idea. This whackjob from what I've heard of em was upset he couldnt go join in the conflict over in the middle east (they wouldnt give him a passport). Logical response? shoot up everything like that'll fix it.. Not quite... Another whackjob that is amongst the many roaming around in any "free" society. Calling the acts of a looney terrorism is irresponsible imo, just as much as saying that this happens because the powers of the west poke into the mideast affairs (regardless of the red carpet rolled out for our assistance or not). In both instances it's a fallacy that flat out isnt true. The word terrorism imo is far too often overused to shadow the inconvenient fact of life.. There ARE whackjobs out there who independent and on their own course opt to do very stupid selfish things, and in the end preventing them from doing so isnt something the world really is prepped to handle. They've done these type of stunts before, and will continue to do so regardless of what "changes" are made. Under a free society you can't go round snatching ppl off the street because you think they may be a problem. Domestic whackjobs have been and always will be a potent issue for the civilized masses, sorry to say but there isnt really a quick way to cure them. Just because this one in his disillusionment felt that he should go join the conflict over there doesnt class it as an act of terror in my book. Pure domestic nutjob will be my bid for this incident just as much as the kid that went nuts in his school in wash state. Both these people deserve not an ounce of our time, nor will anything fruitful come out of trying to guess what went through their feeble minds in doing their actions. People are messed up out there, some of them are willing to die to hurt others. Fact of life =/
-
Since everyone felt the need to respond instead of reporting it, I feel it isnt worth the effort to clean this up at all anymore. While I feel it's in poor taste, people die every single day, with just as much senselessness to it in those instances. Next time people should report the issue instead of engaging into it. Doing that just garners the attention that it isnt due and makes more work to clean up. This time I won't be taking the time to sanitize it.
-
From what I understand you've altered the model of the van at the rear end a bit, when you do this it will in turn wreak havoc on the uv map.. I have had the same issue happen before, the best way to fix it is in vertice mode in the UV mapper and to manually adjust out the error accordingly. IF you don't wanna do that because you worry about the proportioning, the only way to fix it otherwise is to clear the whole UV for that zone and redo it again. Such is what sucks about a vehicle and the fact that you have to adjust it further once it's mapped, sometimes you gotta clear the UV on the zone u tampered with to repair the proportions and level it back out. Generally with small glitches like what you've shown manually tweaking it in vertice mode in the UV will suffice to resolve it with minimal distortion if any at all. You're talking about less than an inch of deflection.

Really sketchup models are horrible to even attempt to use, most of them are poor at credits, so we really frown upon them, sketchup conversions are generally not allowed unless made by YOU using sketchup. Sketchup doesnt make a model very cleanly so it makes junk models compared to other apps out there. For the purposes of just showing off the models sketchup is fine, but not application in a game. More of an issue you need to ride em about tbh, they credit you but not the other people you should call em out and make sure they credit appropriately. We really don't have the time to police every topic out there and generally only get involved when someone points it out and they have had non-compliance from the offender in correcting the issue. We are more of a last resort type of force, not a get up in everything type of policia.. Can't expect us to be up on top of everything, if you can't resolve the issue yourself someone is refusing to be compliant then is where we come in. Perhaps make em keep the original readme with the packages? Alot of game modders require that with their packages, it's fairly common on other platforms out there. As the author you set the terms of usage and can mandate what "hoops" they gotta jump thru if they want the convenience of using your goodies. Anywho that's bout it, sry terrow for hijacking ur thread for this, any other q n a can go into PM with me and I'll answer it thar.
