I can like posts =) *better than ze hoop, the problem is that unfortunately you can't dislike things too, so imean that is totally biased in one direction. I don't believe it is right to allow liking but not disliking posts too. TBH the reason it isnt enabled is because it is a fairly useless feature, some would use it but most wouldnt change their behavior in spite of there being a like button. Just wouldnt happen.

I moved your topic since it really isnt a mod in development nor a concept, but the point you bring up is rather valid IMO. Being that I took the time to create new content I tend to agree with you that it would be nice to see people take the effort to create their own for the custom type of rigs. When it comes to things where a suitable base exists, I feel it is a waste of time to re-create the wheel if it already exists... But alotta times people are just reskinning vehicles that do not really apply, or could be done custom for the mod to give it a unique feel.

Lose the cul-de-sac setup, they are fairly rare in the north-east, most of them are seen in places that wouldnt really be considered rural.

Here is my problem with the sentiment a good deal of steadfast defenders have used in regards to this game, as well as others out there. Yes, they can and should release patching for their games and yes there is far more variety in configuration options available out there that must be tested for compatibility on a game in order to ensure effective performance with their new wares... However, in the industry as a standard (meaning it is the exception, not the rule) most companies have gotten so bad about pre-release testing that they have massive fatal issues within the game, some to the point that in the release-for-purchase version you can't even progress through the whole storyline out of the box because of a glitch that should've been caught well within testing the software. Add on top of that the number of games released that simply put cannot run on the top-20 GPU's and CPU's available out there? Come on now in any other industry this would be considered a defective product. The sad truth is the gaming community for PC has gotten to the point that they accept this as the normal flow of things for most PC games, so they continue to support the offenders just for the fact that they make a product they could like. This is why the PC gaming field is slowly falling by the wayside, anyone who wishes to argue this point merely needs to look at a game selling store/site and note the fact of how many wares are available for a console vs. PC. Yes in the console versions you have the same hardware configuration you are working with, but on the same page they can't just drop a product that doesnt work as-promised, turn around 3 months down the line and re-release a patched version and have any confidence the consumer market will re-purchase the game for their patches within it to play the game. People with consoles KNOW that the product they are going to get for the most part is at least polished enough to call a completed work. Yes they still have bugs within them, but unlike PC they are rarely fatal bugs that end the experience, nor do they have the spotty coverage of performance issues. Such is why the console option appeals to so many of the former PC gaming communities, it is just far more stable in the premise that you ARE getting what you paid for. What is extremely sad to me in this instance is the fact that I feel (this is my opinion, I have no idea whether or not it is indeed the case or not)... I feel that with this game they just simply put did not properly test the product at all on any variety of systems out there, even using a few purchased off the market out-the-box computers would've enabled them to see the types of issues people are running into. It is very sad to me that it appears that mod makers; people doing the work for FREE spend more effort ensuring appropriate performance of their mods than the company did on their for-profit product. I have been involved in several instances of BETA tests where different rigs were not only desired, but sought out in order to ensure that the mods would work on several varying types of system setups. On the same flip of the coin though, if one of the mod teams were to release a mod that looked pretty, but doesnt run right and has tons of fatal bugs, everyone gets up in arms for US releasing broken products.. Isnt it a bit unfair to hold the free modders to a higher standard that the people who are actually getting paid, and paid at a certainly professional level for their product? Testing cannot and will not ever ensure that a product is completely flawless, but at the same time when you expect to get paid upper mid to high per copy of your product, you better be matching that level of quality on day 1 if you don't want to have people feeling very much like they were conned. People forget that patching really was intended when the gaming industry for PC started as a means to fine-tune the end product, in most instances today patching is done so frequently because of the fact that proper testing and quality assurance was simply overlooked as a cost-saving mechanism in order to make a larger profit. This of course comes at the peril of making products that simply don't work as intended for a decent base of the consumers out there, which is why the PC gaming industry is in a much lower standing than it once was. I know comparing games generally does not apply, especially when they are from genres that do not share much in common, but if you look at EM5's graphics, they certainly are not at a 2014 level.. A game that looks nice in a screenshot is fine compared to its predecessor, but what about the rest of the games available on the market today and from just a few years ago? Would you consider EM5's graphics to be on par with some of the other games you also enjoy but are within 3 years of em5's release? In my opinion the game looks pretty good, but it isnt onto the par of other performance chugging games out there, from racing, to shooters, to even RTS games that are out there, there are many of them that look just as good, in some instances better. IF you want to look at the appearance of the visuals, in gaming it can be compared in spite of the fact the games are totally different in setup. For me, I feel this game is very similar to emergency 2013 but with the promise that it can be modded (albeit not as easy as advertised). Ya'll can disagree with me and probably will do so, that is fine. The graphics are improved over emergency 4, that is undeniable, the gameplay is a bit dumbed down compared to EM4, in some ways this could be good or bad, depends on the user. But when you have a game that was released in 2005-6 vs a game made in 2014. One would certainly hope that it looks improved over the previous entry (8 years between them both I believe). Yes it is an all-new engine that they made for this game, but that's part of game design is that you DO have to make new engines for your wares, esp when you're talking 8 years since the game that is your target for replacement. I don't see it as any type of favor that they made a new engine for this game, just because an engine is new does not mean that it is always better than the previous generations (IE more stable, better performance, etc.). Unless they can get the performance issues resolved and fix the fatal bugs, all of the PR touting the benefits of the all-new game simply will fall upon deaf ears. These guys are getting paid quite well to make a product that is supposed to be on the edge, but also deliver said product in working fashion. Hopefully their all new engine can be tweaked to fix the fatal issues the game is currently showing on many people's systems. It ran fine on mine, but given what I paid for this laptop, it autta.

The problem the latest version of the game has stonewalled into is something prevalent in the gaming industry today. Extremely fatal bugs that make working on things rather problematic. Now in time these will be resolved but with what was expected vs what was delivered, it isnt hard to see why so many are upset. To be honest the pricing point was simply too high for what was delivered as a "completed project", to me it seems like they added a few things to make life easier, oversimplified many things, and gave it a decent graphics overhaul that simply put I could've done without in preference for a more extensive gameplay. IMO this project is still very much in it's infancy, and that would be fine from a start-up developer, but it isnt acceptable from a company that has had several solid releases over the years, especially at the price they asked for it. Onto the performance issues, I can't help but feel that they should've caught most of these issues from get go long before it ever hit releasing. Most people labor under the assumption that these are just simple issues that can be debugged and resolved in the current engine. Well It's an "all new engine", with that comes the reality that there will be hard-coded limitations within the engine it's self, hopefully none of the performance issues people are experiencing fall into such a category, or this game will be quite well doomed before it gets started. Performance and stability will rule the day of the fate of this game, it is NOT the community purchasing a game's responsibility to fix a game for the developers. People must bear this in mind, I hope the devs will take the time to correct the performance and stability if possible, and if not to admit the faults and warn the consumer of these faults. If they fail to make the product functional for the niche market that desires it, their fate will fall into the category of many other companies who've gained poor reputations within their market groups. My final thoughts: While I don't see this game as "doomed" or any other negative permanent setting, I do feel that it has gotten off on a rough footing due to the performance and gameplay related bug issues that have cropped up. The ball is in the dev's court to rectify these issues as expediently as possible if they want this game to have a positive long term future. If they opt to drag their feet on the fixes that are required to deal with performance and fatal issues, the community as a whole will feel rather cheated over it. That type of result would be very deadly to the franchise, but I strongly believe they won't take that route (hopefully). People who were expecting the LA mod bundled into the game were sorely mistaken from the on-set, all you had to do was look at who got the "first look" with this game and you could tell who was their primary target in the marketing of this game. The american class modders were a moot point to them, because in the whole the american modders are not where they make the most revenue, so in development the american mods (while very strong for 3 and 4) were not given much thought. Eventually there will be mods for this game, but I can tell you flat out there won't be an LA mod type for this game for quite some time, people are struggling to just figure out how to add things into it, which is an integral part of just face-lifting the game, let alone going into in-depth modding capacity. Some wish to assume the capabilities of the game without understanding it's limitations, where we are right now with understanding the editor in of it's self, not the engine or the script limitations should give quite a bit of pause into assuming "this is such a powerful tool". Simple truth is nobody really knows what the editor or engine is really capable of yet, playing IN the editor is but a glimpse, realize the LA mod made use of much custom scripting to make the things people use so often in mods today.

Alotta us have screen res that is 1080P (mein is 1920/1080), that is alot to put on a video card/processor, esp. with a game that isnt properly optimized. With budget title cos they tend to not do as great a job in that dept. So what you do instead is to lower the screen resolution, it will help lower your problems with latency/lag. Unfortunately on this game from what I've seen thus far it isnt one that you can get away with on maximum settings. Not without a supercomputer anyway. Lower it down in resolution to whatever your lowest setting is that is available, and if that doesnt do it try lowering it to medium settings instead of high/ultra (or whatever they are calling it). You shouldnt need a massive machine but looking at the specs complaining of lagging issues, it seems you do need a massive machine to play it on full settings. Tbh it isnt the first title to be like that, anyone remember GTAIV? It was another one that most people couldnt play on max when it was released.
-
To everyone having issues with performance: lower your screen resolution down... That is the area that is most strongly affecting your lagging unfortunately. This game appears to try to use the highest your res supports but that isnt a good idea.

Ok, so I've already had two reports and had to delete two posts and suspend one person. There is a zero tolerance for abusive behavior when it comes to this topic, anyone that creates an issue will be dealt with aggressively. Everyone is forewarned of the facts of how things will go down if/when there is an issue here. Behave yourselves and conduct yourselves maturely, there is no sense in trolling for things to do because it won't be tolerated.

A rant. (FDNY Response + NYC Traffic)
MikeyPI replied to WildcatsMike's topic in Emergency and Rescue services
The most common reason people fail to move for emergency vehicles is that they simply can't move their vehicles out of the way.. The person who is at the intersection refuses to push forward and out of the way allowing the others behind to pass. Most people don't realize you can bypass the "law" of the land when an emergency service vehicle is on your bumper, but then again with the advent of the red light camera, you can't blame people for giving pause to wanting to run the red light to move out of the emergency vehicle's path. The issue is more common with EMS/FIRE because let's face it, whens the last time either of them pulled you over and cited you for anything, let alone failure to yield to their vehicles? In the end this problem persists in the north east quite often because the roads are very very narrow, in most cases there simply isnt anywhere to go if you are in line behind other vehicles, so you're stuck there whether you want to be there or not. It aint just a NY problem, unfortunately through the whole northeast due to cities being poorly designed traffic flow is dismal at best under "functional" uses, when it is impaired by closed routes and/or emergency operations it can turn to gridlock in a hurry. -
Only one person can control units?
MikeyPI replied to Pottyscotty's topic in Technical Related Support
It is rather annoying yes, but what they were trying for was to make the game as fair and balanced as possible, so as to limit the troll-factor in the MP experience, since A. it takes so long to play a MP game, and B. A troll would be otherwise very effective. Even still you can do some really mean things in MP and make a mess of it, but it is in fact harder. The important thing to note is, say that you've gotten all the vehicles out that you require, you can go ahead and press the skip turn button, allowing someone else to immediately get the next "turn" on purchasing units. But in the end if I recall correctly, it has been quite some time since I've done mp... Your vehicles show blue rings, your team mates show different colors under them, for 2 players the 2nd one gets green I believe. Not 100% sure on that. -
Only one person can control units?
MikeyPI replied to Pottyscotty's topic in Technical Related Support
Make sure you try it with the original, unmodded game first or the LA mod since I know that one works for MP out of the box... Anywho, what happens is say you have 2 players on MP. The Player 1 (host of the game) buys/orders a unit, it is deployed onto the map, then the next player in line (player 2) will be given a turn to purchase/order a unit. This process repeats as long as the game goes on, it is merely to prevent one player from consuming the whole budget for their own units, leaving another player with nothing. You each own your own units, what you order is what you own/control. So if you order a police car, only you can control it and the persons inside it, likewise the other players have the same assets, they own the vehicles they order along with the ppl in them. So what you do best to do online is to pick forces you want to control, and the other person picks something else, IE one will take TEC/Fire, the other EMS/Police, and you get one or two supportive units for really big incidents that may require both of your efforts together. You can't own, or take ownership of someone else's unit that they have deployed on the map. Note: On MP games there are a few hard-coded glitches to which there arent workarounds, bear this in mind when playing the game so as to not end up with issues: The host has to do certain tasks, such as using a ladder to access the upper floor(s) of a building, if a player other than the host tries, it does not work. This is a bug in the original game, so there isnt a workaround for it. There are some other ones you will run into, but thats the worst one. Some mods out there have bugs in their particular MP versions that may affect gameplay, they should mention in the readme file any known issues that you should avoid. Such is why I suggest using the original unmodded game to figure out the processes, or a simple mod like LA that is very easy to understand. -
Textures not loading / Game Crashing
MikeyPI replied to Boeingtriple7's topic in Technical Related Support
Open the game install dir, find em4.cfg, open it in notepad (note if it is program files you will have to copy it to your desktop to alter it). Change your settings on these two lines: <var name="r_xres" value="1024" /> <var name="r_yres" value="768" /> That is a default screen resolution it should reset your settings. Make sure fullscreen is set to : <var name="r_fullscreen" value="1" /> Save the file and it should load once again, as to your other issues need the DX Diag to go along with your logfile. Make sure to run game as admin as well. -
Mod topics are given some lee-way on the double posting rule, but when you are just responding to questions/comments edit your existing post. The edit button is found on the bottom of your post to the right, use that to edit a post if you need to. Do not post 2 posts in a row unless it is an update related to the actual progress of the mod, not just further comments regarding things. Edit the post in those case. I merged your 3 posts in a row responding to people's comments, if you wish to respond to multiple comments do so within a single post, do not make multiple posts just to respond to each individual comment. It just creates clutter.

(OCMD) Ocean City Maryland Modification
MikeyPI replied to SpiralHarbor167's topic in Mod Development and Concepts
Same diff imo, the caprice and the impala are roughly sister cars in most every way (visually anyway from a modeler's perspective) Swap the details out boom ya gotta impaler instead of a caprice. -
(OCMD) Ocean City Maryland Modification
MikeyPI replied to SpiralHarbor167's topic in Mod Development and Concepts
Yes they do. -
Assuming your computer is otherwise good except it needs an OS, I would go ahead and buy a legit copy of windows, not one from a "techie" that prob has a bundle license deal that allows multi installs on machines, if something goes wrong you don't have a copy yourself and you'll end up right back where you started without the OS you need... You do far better if you gotta go out and get the OS from the marketplace to just get whichever windows you want at retail so you at least have your own license that you know is 100% correct and proper.

To be honest, depending on what mods you want to play, none of these computers are ideal for what you want to do. What you want to find is a computer with around 2.0 GHZ processor, 4 gig memory minimum, and a videocard with dedicated memory, 512 mb would be a decent little card for lighter gaming like EM4 a 500 gig hdd is the standard on most laptops today.. The 2nd one outside of the processor speed being too low is otherwise fine, but the processor speed is far too low unfortunately. You really want to avoid the "integrated" chipsets, most of them are AMD Radeon HDs or Intel Graphics cards, you want to find one with a dedicated memory structure. The problem with the integrated chipsets are they use the system memory, which is also used by the system, and game it's self, so there really isnt much left over by the time the video card gets to using it. Plus these cards generally arent great at rendering lighting (shadows for ex) and smoke/flame particles, two things EM4 makes heavy use of. Shop around and see if you can't find a system that meets what I stated above and you should be fairly good for playing em4 with most of the mods out there without issues, along with some other relatively "light" games out there.. Figure if it's about 4-6 years old it will prob run on the minimum settings fairly smooth with a dedicated 512 card.

And a moderator shall take care of this... I've frankly had enough of having to come into this topic for nonsense so EVERY single post I have to remove is going to get a 2 day suspension this time. REPORT ISSUES! Don't just respond to them and keep them going endlessly, I have to remove a whole page, I will be giving 2 day suspensions to ANY posts removed. Enough is enough.
-
Try running it as an admin, if that does not work we require your logfile found in the EM4 directory to even guess the cause.
-
Okay enough's enough.... Bugs happen in a new release, welcome to releasing content, it will happen and you will get bug reports, alot of them will be the same thing over and over.. People don't read other's reported bugs, they feel the need to report their own experiences without checking existing bug reports... Welcome to modding.. As to the people reporting tft.cf's comments as "rude". His primary language is not english, he uses a translator to translate from his original language. Certain languages when translated come off very literal and harsh, welcome to using translator utilities. Most are not built with kindness in mind. If he makes comments that are inappropriate language or genuine and obviously intended to provoke an incident, those should be reported. As far as reality goes I'm sorry but not everyone is going to blow smoke up everyone else's tailpipe to make them feel better about their projects. From what I've seen in the reported content it is likely the translator that is at fault and everyone is being too sensitive about it.

Like I said in my post, your video card driver software is a possible reason why it will force fullscreen mode. Being that I don't know your video card, I can't tell you if I can help you fix that or not. Some video cards come with software that customizes how it handles things, when the drivers/software is updated it can change how games are handled. Windows can update this or your computer's manuf can have software that updates them, or you can do it yourself, either way the result is the same, something that once was as you wanted no longer is... Check your vid card software and make sure it isnt overriding the game settings and forcing fullscreen, my software for EX forces em4 to run in fullscreen regardless of what i've set it to do.

It is from experience that most of us have learned to take a cautious approach.. It's one thing if you're playing the game out of the box and have no intentions to alter it, those games generally tbh take less in the way of framework to make a decent game.. When you get into ones that people can and will kitbash you can't get away with the same things within it. 16T is a budget title co for the most part, they tend to put out more what are considered "bargain" games compared to the 70 buck games that many other cos put out, so it's a wise thing to temper your expectations a bit if you're looking to alter the game. Fact is we've seen/heard some of it, but we havent seen in-depth about it yet.. When it comes out we'll see what we get, even better after it comes out and any/all required patches are taken care of for it. Sad reality of gaming these days on pc is that they do love to put out products that need patching to fix issues, sad but it is how things have gone over the past decade for alotta devs.

Well to use your own example, San Andreas to GTA 4, it got a new engine, new physics, was much more attractive to look at.. I give it that no doubt about it, but compared to S.A. as far as it's functions in-game go, 4 was sadly (out of the box mind you) a step backwards compared to S.A. The older ver of the game was just more engrossing with all the activities you could get into compared to 4's list of toys.. Now in 5 they've fixed much of this to make it much much better, but the same things could happen with EM5. In an effort to make a new revolutionary system you can't expect them to go over the top in all avenues out the gate, so it may lose some functions, and gain some others.. That's the nature of an evolving product, some things come into it, some go... This even happened in EM3 when it turned into EM4, some useful things were removed when it became 4, but alotta nice things were added that generally offset it (for players, as a modder I miss the old things). What matters to me when it comes to this game in particular because of what I enjoy doing to it may not matter to other people out there (people for ex that want to do euro mods). This is a fact of life in any mass produced product, but with this game in particular let's face the facts, most of the modders out there go for a "comprehensive" mod, not just a single model or script.. So the whole package really matters a great deal more when it comes to this game, not just pieces of the thing. So I hold my judgement but I am very reserved on my expectations, thus I can't really be disappointed if it turns out that we have to re-invent the wheel the whole way around. Onto a side note: I am fairly certain that most newer, updated mods WILL be able to port their models over into this new version of this game, however I believe that it will prob require some adjustments to the textures. From what I see of the models from the pictures of the game I have to admit from a modeler's perspective they themselves do not appear as though they are really that much higher poly than what I'm used to seeing from emergency games. What does look improved is the renderings and possibly the textures, which is fairly easy to fix when it comes to an existing model. I have done it myself before where I've taken an existing model and changed the texture to a higher res one, this works fine if the model is accurate. The only way that you need an insane complex model is for games like GTA4 where you do have dynamic damages occuring to the vehicles... In a game like EM5 I have heard/seen nothing of this sort, nor do I expect this will be the case, it just doesnt fit the genre.. So in the end I believe once it is figured out what process is required, people will be able to port in existing models, just hopefully they use good sense and don't try to port the really old ones that are very low poly.

I am guessing you mean when you attempt to load the mod, this is normal behavior. The game appears to be unresponsive, however it is infact loading the mod. Be patient and allow a few minutes for the mod to load. Depending on your computer a mod can take around 10 minutes if it is a slower machine, faster machines it generally takes around 3-5 minutes on average for a heavy mod to load.
