I personally have no interest in continuing onto em5, I simply can't afford time time to learn to walk all over again in another game, particularly one that I feel is a simpler version of what I've already known for a few years now, I state this so my position is clear that whether they sort out this game or not really has no bearing for me personally, but I still exercise my right to speak my opinion regarding a game that I have tried. NFK pretty much sums up the sentiment that a good number of the community has with regards to this particular game and modding it. A mythical "DLC" that will fix all the ails of the game sounds well and good on paper, but given the game and the state it was released in (and at the price it was released) it should not be difficult to see why the end-user would be upset over the whole affair, adding salt to the wound in the form of DLC content instead of as a patch for it would be a grave mistake. People in general have an extreme distaste for a certain number of mainstream developers for doing the same type of behavior that they perceive was done with EM5, over-hype what your product will be, deliver it as an unfinished, bug-ridden mess, attempt to patch it for a few months, then release DLC's to fill in the shortcomings of the game with "new" content that really should have been there in the original game release. This has as of late became the tried and true methodology of most the mainstream developers, IMO it's likely why the pc-gaming industry as a whole is unsavory for many users out there, I personally have been burned in the past by games that were all but junk, I'm sure everyone here has a story that is much the same. As a general rule I believe if you intend to give tools to the user, you should at least have a basic-tutorial or a more intuitive "helpful" UI within the tool, in many editors for games out there you have the ability to get tooltips, it's a really useful thing to help people figure out what they are doing. Lack of any documentation just makes this product a huge pitfall for a good number of users out there, trying to fumble through it gets frustrating, especially if you break your game in the process of trying to learn it. While I personally believe em5 was just a money-grab (as many games as of recent years have been) I do hope for the community's sake that they do deliver on their promises to rectify the flaws within this game. IMO though, it should not be in the form of a for-pay DLC in order to go about trying to do this. If they do attempt to charge to fix the defects of the game and then charge people for these fixes they will merely alienate more users that already have a bad taste in their mouths over the initial product, they don't want or need DLC pay content, they just want a fully functioning product as they were promised in the first place. People can argue that it just takes time to figure out this and that, but even if you have that mindset you have to admit that not having the ability to create/load mod packages pretty much limits these tools to all but the most advanced user. The perk of EM3/4 was that it was advanced users who built the mods and compiled them, then bundled them so any user could easily install and play these things, and they could have multiple packages that did not conflict with one another. Without the ability to install or enable/disable mod content very easy in my book you really can't call a game "mod-friendly" since your average user is NOT advanced enough, or has the desire to manually add/remove content so they may play with certain things at specific times. Remember, not everyone out there can invest the time to figure out all the tools, and even fewer will want to take the time if the end-user will have an extremely hard time implementing anything into the game themselves. I hope they add the tools required to make separate easy to install packages, and some alteration to allow the user to enable/disable mods so they can play a German mod or an American mod, whatever suits their fancy without having to manually tamper with things in order to make this happen. In my eyes the development of mods is but one step in the process, implementing it to the end-user is just as important, if not more so since if a user can't figure out how to use a product then what was the point in them even getting it in the first place?

In my eyes for documentation purposes, it's a wise idea if you're showcasing a particular vehicle to include the credits with that imagery, but in the instances of "general gameplay" imagery and/or video I do not see it as reasonable to have credits applied in those cases, since they would probably be a phone book by the time you credited everyone that was required to be credited related to the 10-20 units on the map, not even counting any structures/scripts portrayed. So in the instance of a singular showcase (meaning a specific unit, structure, script) I would suggest documenting the credit with the object in question, but when it comes to general shots of the map or scenes with multiple units that have previously been documented there would be no reasonable requirement to document within that particular instance. When it comes to releasing content it is mandatory to have your credits along with compliance with the author(s) terms of use in order when you opt to release the content. Media related to it, as I said showcasing something you've done, document who deserves credit for their contribution, general "media" related to the whole mod I would forego this step since it would just be too many in most cases.

towtruck.v3o is the unloaded version of the truck towtruck2.v3o is the loaded version of the truck there should be only one prototype file for this to work.. there does not need to be a second prototype for the loaded version, the game automatically goes to the loaded model. towtruck.e4p Make sure that your loaded/unloaded are in the same folder and named correctly and both are present as intended. Vehicle type must be ASF
-
The model names are probably wrong, it has to be whatever your first model version is, followed by one that is the same name but has 2 on the end for the loaded version. IE: Towtruck.v3o Towtruck2.v3o

Yeah there is a slight problem for clans as of late. Realize that a "new" name with the same old content/persons involved does not change the issues that existed previously. To elaborate on NFK's post using your own "proof" from your newly created account (which we told you explicitly to not do lest you'd be banned permanently) Here you go: Issue 1: Texas Emergency Response Team was banned for their misconduct. Issue 2: Texas Emergency Response Team when googled goes to PFR sites (so they'd be banned for that alone). Issue 3: Texas Emergency Response Team was "headed" by Willowfork, he created this clan name apparently thinking he was clever. He wasnt. So there ya go, your Permanent ban for failure to adhere to the warnings about re-creating clans that have been banned, along with creating a new account to get around your suspension (which would've expired on its own, but not anymore since you escalated it to a permanent one). Ye Clans Be Warned, we can figure out who's who with a bit of effort, and when caught we act accordingly. Understand that because you've gotten a new name does not absolve the previous problems your clan has caused. Changing your name does not get you out of trouble in real life, it certainly won't work here either.

My fav thing I saw once was the chevy knock-off on a dealer lot with a huge puddle underneath the engine compartment, that bodes well for the quality of said knock-offs Sad thing is most of them they've knocked off they match so closely if you got ahold of a real emblem nobody would know it was the fake till they looked under the hood.
-
Oh come on now, you know you can't wait for someone to have those things in a mod lol Here's the F-series by the China Knock off firm, like I said change the emblems it'd fool me pretty well, same with several other ones they've done.
-
I really really hate the things, none of the agencies I've done used the things (that I've ever found anyway) so it was never a required part for me, it was used by some pretty big departments in North America, but I really can't stand em. Even if one of the agencies that I have needed it, I'd be hard-pressed to make it Twas just a project for you if you wanted something strange/odd to do, someone out there would find a use for it.
-
lol, the sad thing is the Chinese have gotten pretty good about knocking things off, even full-blown cars to the point that if you did not notice the logos/emblems you'd think it was the real thing. I'm sure alot of people get duped with the cheap knock-off on parts these days. If you want a really strange but rather uncommon project to do (some police did use these things) you could always try your luck at a Whelen Fast Trax lighting system, I personally found them to be extremely ugly, but I'm sure some people would like the things. I personally can't stand the things, but some major departments around the country did have some of these things, they were popular in Canada in particular.
-
Can you make me a Thai or Chinese knock-off versions of these parts? My mod requires only the cheapest quality parts available on the market, not brand-name nonsense!

Why hello once again Portland First responders, being that your ability to advertise here has been removed temporarily for the conduct that you got involved in previously, this has now become a permanent banning of this clan's ability to advertise here, or any other names you should decide to attempt to re-create your clan under... As for the poster of this message, you will receive a one month suspension from this site, should you decide that you wish to attempt to re-create another account to get around this, it will become a flat out permanent ban. http://forum.emergency-planet.com/topic/20052-clan-portland-first-responders/?p=292002#entry292002 Your links to your clan have been removed and this topic will be closed but available for all to see, not unlike a head on a stake to warn off hostiles >)

As I stated the post was not specifically directed at you as an individual, but at the community as a whole, unless proper "chain of authorship" is maintained in each and every mod that uses other's works it is unreasonable to expect any different for themselves when they've failed to do the same thing to the authors which made the content they've used as a base. Personally I don't see what is so hard about asking for permission and documenting the specific authors of each and every piece of content used within a mod (along with any restrictions/credit caveats that individual may have). The time spent writing the documentation about a mod is by far less than if people had to create the content they've used themselves. People should think about that when they feel that they should not take the time to figure out who actually made what that they've used (for whatever excuse they come up with as to why they did not take that time to gain permission/usage credit restrictions), especially if they feel that they deserve to be credited themselves for what they've done.
-
Time for a staffer to step in on the above mentioned issue. People have been doing exactly what you claim they have, this is true to be certain, but at the same time *most* "new" mods out there currently are nothing more than reskin/relight projects with slight changes from existing mods (most for example use the LA mod for their base-framework). For example "kitbashing" (taking model A from one mod, and putting it with model B from another mod and calling it a "new" vehicle), Reskinning existing units and claiming they are new, changing lightbars, etc. Because of this it has become very sporadic for the "chain of ownership" to be retained, the parties that are initially altering the original mod are just as guilty in most cases as the end-offenders in not accurately compiling/maintaining credits/rights regarding everything they've used for their mods. This issue must as a community be addressed in order to retain any sort of reputation as a legitimate modding community. The problem with your permission requirements is quite a large one, you did not create the original content used within your mod in it's entirety, so you cannot restrict usership of things that are open for use without explicitly listing the things you've changed that are forbidden to be used from within this mod, all other items must be credited just the same as you want people to provide you with such courtesy. IF for example you've taken someone else's model from another mod and have reskinned it only, then you have a right to restrict usership of the skin, but if the original model was available for anyone to use, then any user may use that model just the same as you were able to, with all corresponding original author restrictions applied. Such is why modders in this community MUST be more aware of the fact that others may have contributed to a work and you SHOULD be aware of who these person(s) are prior to using something! This falls onto the mod developers to populate a readme/document with all pertaining credits and restrictions related to content in which they've used so that people are aware when using "your" mod who really did what and which individuals must be contacted specifically regarding content someone wishes to use. Just because something is in your mod does not give you rights over the item in it's entirety, if you reskinned it, you have rights over the skin alteration, if you altered the model significantly then you may retain rights over the model, (for example most people are just taking existing lightbars from one mod and putting them onto another mod's vehicles, so really the original authors of both the lightbar and the model base should be credited FIRST, then the alteration modder should get credit for putting them together). Without these successive "chains" of permissions properly documented, you have a steep battle for justifying your "rights" over an article released, if you are unwilling/unable to complete this chain of documentation, then how is it fair to expect people to obey your permission/credit conditions, when you opted to not show the same courtesy to those who you've used content from? Either everyone as a community needs to get better in this respect, or people should cease using other's content all together, if users are unwilling or unable to give other's credit where it's due then it is not reasonable to believe you should have that extended courtesy for yourself. This post is not directed at this author or topic specifically, but as a community-wide advisement because this statement had to be made, and the community as a whole needs to reflect upon it and alter their conduct as required in order to maintain a reputable community.. The alternative is that people will cease to let users use their content and the community as a whole will suffer as a result of people being unprofessional about how they conduct themselves with other's works (remember someone put in the time to make the items that you've had the benefit of, they deserve their credit where it's due). Personally I do not feel it is much to ask for proper permissions/credit chains to be maintained within this community, particularly from users who believe they should have credit/permission rights themselves, if modders won't take the step to be courteous to those who made the content they've used, they have no right to be upset when the same occurs to them.

Thank you for the information, I'm not sure if it's accurate though, from what I was told previously by others those cabs are used mostly for TLC enforcement duties.. Without a cited source I'm not really sure what to do with your information, as others from the NY area have stated otherwise just as well. Such is the problem with information, it's only valid if verified =/ and I'm not sure which one is valid and which one is mis-informed at this point. Obviously, there are different types of services, there are the standard "yellow" cabs that most people associate with nyc, then there are limos, and lastly (but probably the most common) are the for-hire sedan services.. In most cities these vehicles operate outside of the normal "taxi" limitations because of how they operate they work around the loopholes within the "for-hire" system, mostly in that they cannot pick up by being "hailed" on the street. My guess is that you've got limited experience with "for-hire" services, some of the most prevalent violators of operation conditions are those which have a "monopoly" of sorts on their areas of operation, when they are given exclusive operation licenses over an area they tend to be more prone to overcharging on fares, tampering with the meters, etc. (this especially happens with taxis that have exclusive rights to airport pick-up) Add in the caveat that yes the medallion does cost upwards of 1 mill to obtain one would think that they would be less prone to violation, however, most operators of the cabs (actual drivers) "lease" the cabs from the primary owner which obtained/holds the license for the operation of the vehicle. As such you have some quality control issues when it comes to proper operation of the vehicles since they are in essence renting the cab from the proper owner, this practice occurs in many places where the owner of the cab will take a % in exchange for permitting the driver the ability to operate the cab for profit.

Well, it isnt the US army mod script, it's a brand new script specifically designed to make an emergency services experience, as opposed to the Army mod script which was pure military in it's function (it inspired doing this to the NY mod, but could not be used to "base" off of, unfortunately).

Well, considering that he is on a staff-sponsored vacation for violations, and has attempted to re-create a new account he has entered into a lengthier vacation for that, so this topic won't get updates for some time now. Why people cannot just accept their punishment and come back upon it's expiration I will never fathom, instead they seem content to take a minor suspension and turn it into more permanent ones.

Imo that would be frightening for a Police Simulator to just now (after all this time) be working on a Crown Victoria, that is the bread and butter of police departments, it may be getting replaced slowly but surely these days however it IS still the most common police car in this country. If it's taking them this long to make the most common police vehicle in the USA, that doesnt bode well for their progress overall.
-
During our mod period, I could never find a ford explorer for the highway units, the only thing they had that would be applicable would be a tahoe/suburban for our time period. The Taxis are part of the NY Taxi and Limo Commission, their primary role is to enforce taxis and limos for compliance in regards to their respective roles within the city (IE not having your medallion clearly displayed, having a customer with the meter off, not having the lights on the cab, equipment violations, etc.) The unmarked cabs arent really meant for regular enforcement duties, but specialized to handle for-hire vehicles within the city. (quite clever when you think about it, who'd ever think that a fellow cab was out to get them if they were unaware it was a police car).

Well, to be totally honest there are TWO vehicles in the mod from the department of sanitation, another from DOT! The large fire boat has gotten more potent than it was in V1, but to be totally honest I am considering changing the model so it isnt an alteration of the default vessel and instead going with a more accurate, more compact vessel. The requirements for the fire boat in of it's self is not overly required, especially with a satellite present, however, the fire boat does serve a purpose on fires that occur near the shoreline (some of which can get pretty large/out of hand) Outside of that the large fire boat really does not have any altered use. The smaller vessels have gained more objectives that require their usage though.

36 Non-unmarked units 4 Esu Unmarked SUVs 8 Highway patrol Unmarked vehicles 12 unmarked NYPD vehicles. 60 Vehicles total from the Police Units. 26 Fire/EMS/Technical Support units. 86 Units total already in the mod, Such is why we're not hard-pressed to keep adding in more vehicles since we've already got so many that are already present. A few more still may be added into the mix, but they will be because of something different they can do/provide support for if they are added at this point.

Denver Mod! [Released Not Done Version]
MikeyPI replied to RestingVermin's topic in Mod Development and Concepts
Here is my question, since you intend to accept "donations" for this mod, do you intend to share said donations with the modifications/modders in which you've used content from their mods or their efforts? It seems quite inappropriate to attempt to profit from a modification if you're the only party that will receive any compensation when you've used other's works/efforts for your base, if you have created ground-up new content it's a different story, but when you're using other's works to build off of it seems quite inappropriate in my book to accept "donations" when you did not create the original content being used. -
There are simply far too many vehicles to assign each vehicle their own patrol path routing, in the end they would likely end up causing traffic nightmares having them patrol on paths that would likely intersect other vehicles given the sheer quantity of vehicles we have in this mod and the road structure we have setup. Remember patrolling vehicles kind of ignore the traffic rules so if two on separate junctions intersect they will run into one another and cause traffic jams. Having a few patrol paths in sectors of the city should suffice, having individual ones for every potential unit is simply put too much, adds too much weight and given the dumb AI the vehicles show by default, having 40-50 different patrol paths, which you know someone would have ALL of them active at once it is just inviting bugs and glitches.

Hartsdale Valley mod &on hold, first post more info$
MikeyPI replied to marcoclusius1's topic in Mod Development and Concepts
I'm sorry but I had to comment on this one, everyone likes to blame WIN8 for problems, I have windows 8.1 and yes, it takes getting used to, I have had two computers with win8 now and they are perfectly stable and have never failed on me because of the OS it's self. Within the past year and change the only times anything has gone wrong with them was because of MY actions in doing something stupid to break them myself, and in all 3 instances where that occured the rollback feature of windows 8 has worked perfectly fine to recover the computer without losing my personal data other than the apps that were installed by me. All data on the hard-disk it's self was unchanged (programs installed, files stored in my documents/downloads, all personal files except for the applications installed) were left alone in the rollbacks. You can repair your machine without reformatting it in windows 8 quite easily so blaming win8 isnt valid from my experience with it. Itchboy is stating a truth of modding that one should have backup copies of their mod, regardless to the stability of their machine, whether or not your hard disk is stable or not one should have a backup medium, even if you're cash-strapped you can pick up a thumb drive extremely cheap at most electronic retailers that has more than enough space on it to store a single mod's files with little issue, even if you spring for a large physical drive like one I just purchased which is a terrabyte it was less than 75 dollars to purchase, but if you are cash strapped there is always the thumb drive option which is much much cheaper (under 15 dollars on average). That is what he means in the fact you should have a backup of your files, because it is much much less painful to have to recover your backup files that may be a week or two out of date as opposed to starting over. -
Well, considering that our satellite is a totally new rig built specifically for this mod we do not have any issue like the one you're referencing. That particular issue only exists because of a defect within the other mods that make use of their model of their cannon, ours does not have this issue to begin with.

Hartsdale Valley mod &on hold, first post more info$
MikeyPI replied to marcoclusius1's topic in Mod Development and Concepts
Well, tbh I've lost a drive before suddenly it does happen, though the "total loss" rate on this forum seems unusually high compared to the general population. Backups help some but I've had the backups fail as well because of data loss in transfers, the drive disconnected mid-transfer, etc.. A single backup doesnt protect ya 100%. Perhaps aliens abducted the mod off the hard-drive then crashed it to hide the crime? Speculation is a pretty easy route to go. Though to be honest one does have to question why in a mod with a "team" of two members, how there isnt at least an out-of-date copy in the other author's possession. My experience working with others is that while we all may not have the exact same most current version of the mod, we do at least have one that may be a little behind, and having to redo some of the mod vs the whole thing is alot easier pill to swallow. Either way the speculation can cease from here on in and hopefully the authors will find a way to recover their data, like I said perhaps try the 2nd member of your team for their version.... Would be rather strange to have a team working on a mod but only one to have custody of the mod alone.
