From the FIRST page C'mon people, read the first page, use the search button, use your heads before you post. It's not asking much!! There are a lot of good ideas in this thread, some of them might just surprise you by showing up in 1.7! The ones that have the best chance of being considered and added and pushed for are the ones where YOU put some thought into it, say why and how it'll change the game. The point of the next version is not to just have another car that does what all of the others do already, but to make the game new again. New missions, new ways to use the units, things like the new entry points, things like delaying the hospital offloading, take some time to think and post and lets really make 1.7 like playing the game for the first time again. Mike -
Madman has hit he nail on the head when he says: I'm sorry you feel the sirens are dull. Actually, I'm not sorry at all. LAPD, LASD, CHP, LAFD, LACoFD, and even the FBI all use either the Motorola siren or FedSig smart siren with just wail and yelp with Fire apparatus having mechanical sirens as well. I don't know what you want, but if you're looking for a lot of blinky lights and varied sirens, Los Angeles is not the mod for you. Are you talking about the third brake light on the back of the crown vic? The LAWA PD has dual led's beside their 3rd brake light (will be added in 1.7), the slick tops all have arrow bars on their back shelf. You'll have to be more specific as to what your question is. I'll have to look to see if the 3rd brake light comes on in the game, if not, I'll make sure its added. It's never been something I bothered to look at. What is NOT cool is you first posted in the wrong thread. We all know you are aware of the other thread so this is completely inexcusable! Next time, you will receive an increase in your warning level. Second, you're requesting units NOT from LA, which is both annoying and .. you know what... let me just say this... in bold even... Units NOT From LA Will NOT Be Considered! Lots of things look cool, read the first page of the suggestions thread and pay attention to this part: Mike

Has anyone else come across any other cars that are non-transportable? The big brown truck had that problem at one point too and its just a simple switch in the editor. It's pretty simple... call PD for traffic control, call FD for ax's and medical aids. While all PD are trained to 1st Responder level, they will rarely, and I mean very rarely do anything more then just call for fire. They have their job, we have ours. It takes some real special circumstances for them to go outside of their comfort zone. Ok let's put this one to rest here and now. The LA mod is based on the Los Angeles City Fire Department and the fellow departments it engages with on a daily basis. First and Foremost, it is an LA City mod, not a County mod, not a state mod, not a US mod. Having said that, let me stress by stating the Los Angeles City Fire Department is a world class leader in safety and service, and handles all routine calls for service withing their jurisdiction with great effectiveness. In times of greater emergency and in some of the special Initial Action Zones, such as West Hollywood and Marina Del Rey, you'll sometimes find a County Fire apparatus assisting as part of the initial dispatch to fires, and a county squad responding to freeway and accident calls. LASD is typically found within the city of LA due to their having the MTA bus and metro line contract as well as community colleges, hospitals, and court house/jail security. While more LACoFD apparatus may be added at some point, and this thread is for suggesting things like you'd like to see more LACoFD stuff, more LAFD stuff is the priority and it is realistic they'd handle all of their own calls. A foam fire truck is in the game. It's labeled the water tender but if you look close, you'll see it is actually Foam 100. -
It depends on the circumstances. Usually Arson investigators arrive quite some time after the incident began and the IC completes most of the preliminary paperwork and the investigator will come, take pictures, and poke around a bit during the final overhaul or after. If there are extremely suspicious circumstances, the IC company might stay longer or delay overhaul for the investigators to get their first. If an arsonist is caught on scene, be it a child with fireworks or an adult setting it intentionally, PD will make the arrest and detain the suspect for the arson investigators. PD will also transport to the local police station as well. For an incident like the one in game, because the suspect is caught and arrested, there is minimal investigation compared to one where everything is unknown. The majority of the initial investigation would be handled long before the fire companies were even done packing their gear during something like that. I'll be the first to say that a non-functional unit for a 10 second role-playing effect is not something high on anyones to-do list. If you'd like to mimic it for yourself, retexture a chief to a red helmet and see this photoset for what the jacket looks like. You'll also see a white chevy car with LAFD markings that was probably the staff car they were using. Mike

Just basic cars. Typically it's an unmarked crown vic, or one with just the city logo on the doors with a single steady burn red light in the grille or rear view mirror and a flashing red/amber light on the rear deck. Here's one from the Topanga fire back in 2005

In regards to USCG Aviation survival Technicians: The US Coast Guard is a dual purpose agency that is part military and part law enforcement. They are part of the federal Dept of Homeland Security have the arduous task of maritime law, safety, and security. Since 9/11 and their inclusion within the DHS, there has been a radical change in their purpose, training and usage. Drug Interdiction and maritime law/port security has become a higher priority and you will find many armed Coasties around ports and on Coast Guard ships trained in interdiction and inspection. The most notable unit are the Airborne Use of Force (AUF) units know as HITRON (Helicopter Interdiction Tactical Squadron) which is typical refered to as "Force from Above." These are specially modified Augusta A109/MH-68A Stingray & MD900/MH-90 Enforcers. These AUF helicopters are armed with M240 7.62mm machine guns, .50 cal sniper rifles, prop snaring nets and other toys, and are mostly found on the gulf coast for dealing with drug boats and smuggling. The other side of the Coast Guard mission is Maritime safety and rescue. The Aviation Survival Technicians go through some of the most intense rescue swimmer training in the world, and is comparable to Air Force ParaJumpers and others. The main difference is that they are NOT armed, nor is their mission law enforcement based. These men and, by last count, 3 women, are the EMS of the ocean for fisherman and sailors around the US. Typically flying the HH65a Dauphin or HH-60J Jayhawk, they can be found all around america's coasts responding to disasters, emergencies and all calls for help. The HH60J is the backbone of the USCG helicopter fleet. A medium range/lift helicopter, it is used for rescues, air ambulance, and coastal weather/conditions surveillance. One lesser known aspect is that for areas that do not have helicopters equipped for night vision/night flying, they will respond into the area for air ambulance and rescues. CDF in Riverside and San Diego county call upon them often for over the side rescues and air ambulances from the firelines of wild fires where other helicopters are unable to go. Because they are also part military, it is not uncommon for the resources to be called upon to assist the navy in times of conflict. You will often find cutters and USCG helicopters staffed with USCG and USN personnel performing various interdiction, security, and safety missions around the world. Mike -
Many of us use FRAPS. Another way of doing it is to just use the print screen key, alt-tab and then paste in your favorite small imaging program, like the freeware and amazing Irfanview.

Well, I'll ask this here and now... How many people would like to see the weather edited to be more realistic... less chance of rain and such or would you prefer to leave that alone and do it on your own? Also, freeplay will be radically different, much like 1.6 added the new entry points and other changes that effect your tactics and methods, Hoppah has been very hard at work and showing his amazing skills to make 1.7 even more like a new game. Mike -
That is correct, and in 1.7 the texture will be removed. As noted above, the lighting on vehicles, especially arrowbars will be more accurate.
-
Still one of my all time favorite missions.
-
The LAFD has shown no interest in purchasing any aerial trucks other then the straight ladder type in service today.
-
Slowly they are getting them with each new unit purchased. They're not common yet and probably wont be for at least another 2 or 3 budget cycles. LAFD just got their first new ambulance with the new LED package this month, and it'll be a while before the rest trickle through. The new BC's are still hung up in the shops except for a handful. The mod would go crazy trying to replicate every new vehicle, light package, and such the LAFD gets. Every 3 months there is something new in the department.
-
KingNikan posted in the appropriate forum because this is not an LA mod bug, but a game bug. I've had it happen with no mods installed, especially on the deluxe map. Unfortunately, the game is not without problems and I don't know if there is anything that can be done about this.
-
You might want to check your display settings. The car in game has always been red on my screen and in screen shots on this board and at lamod.emergency-planet . com/

No we do not. The US has no national Fire or EMS program, with each area dictating it's own rules, regulations, and standards as necessary. Because America is so vast with different climates, topography, cultures, and resources, no one plan could possibly work in every area. In some areas like LA, the EMS program is part of the Fire Department, in others, the ambulances are managed by the Hospitals. The St John "brand" is popular in the UK and former colonies like Canada, Malaysia, and so on and so forth, just not in this one.

The hazmat occurs in the FR game in the south east part of the map at the docs. It would activate the flood lights each time you turned it on and also there is no arrow bar on the USAR rigs as you can see in this pic This isn't so much directed at you Madman, as to one and all... NO arrow bars will be added to units that do not have them. If you need traffic control, call PD! It's what they do best! Especially the new motor unit, it can get through traffic easily and works great. I believe it is based on that, and the light is actually a halogen flasher that is found on all of the sides of LAFD apparatus. Only the LED's have a nifty flashing pattern, the halogens are just a very slow, almost turn blinker slow, on/off flash.

No, but he might be living in LA! Like I said, in 31 years I've seen lightning twice here. Thanks to meteorological factors of cool ocean currents, the Catalina Eddy, and the protection from the Sierra Nevadas that cause a rain shadow effect due to the adiabatic process. When I say we average 35 days of rain a year, that is an average. We've gone 226 days straight without any measurable precipitation at all, and 360 if you discount anything under .05 of an inch, basically don't count the drizzles. That's one of the reasons why the Fire boats get so many of the rescues, the swift water units are only staffed according to the weather. This is how the LA River typically looks year round, empty, small stream, if that, running through the middle, and just a lot of concrete. And this is how it looks during an El Nino storm, or any large rain: It's not like the Mississippi or Delaware rivers which are full year round, and treacherous year round. Most of our water rescues are related to people falling off the cliffs near the ocean, or in a port or marina. And just for information, here is a typical swift water rescue response: Mike -

No it does not. The LAPD maintains a very impressive dive unit that is partially funded by the Dept of Homeland Security. They work with the Port Police in the LA Harbor, as well as deal with body recovery and evidence recovery in lakes and reservoirs within the City of LA. They basically respond wherever a body of water is present and a law enforcement/investigation function is necessary. They do train in rescues, but that is neither their function nor their response. LAFD does have swift water rescue units that are not fully staffed year round. This ties into the weather post below, but i'll just say we don't get a whole lot of rain in LA, and we really don't have a lot of rivers with water in them year round. It is usually the USAR guys who are cross trained in Swift water rescue as well which is why you see the SWR and USAR co located at 88s and others. USAR rigs will almost always respond as well due to the need for specialized rope rescues. The uniform for rescues is usually a wetsuit with helmet and flotation device though they are also trained in SCUBA as well. For the county, the Rescue tender that transports the swift water rescue team and tows the zodiac and rescue craft are the squads repurposed as rescue tenders. When it comes to Port rescues or cliff/beach rescues, usually it'll be dependent on the location for the resources that are assigned. If it's near the port of LA, you'll usually get the medium fire boats like the one modeled in the game, along with county and city lifeguard boats. If its farther away it'll usually be the city lifeguard boat in cabrillo beach, or LA County lifeguard boats anywhere else. I play the game at the hardest level and I've never experienced any of the difficulties you mention. One of the lamer parts of the game is that after a few seconds with a paramedic, you can scoop and run with the guy without worry. And except for a rare sniper that goes bad, I can't think of any time i've had that many patients, but okie doke. I'm sure Hoppah or someone else can comment on the tags. In regards to the hazmat incidents, people should notice that you don't have to decon everyone. They civies will walk off the map on their own, it's just the ones who are stationary and collapse that need to be handled. As far as lifeguards go, that vehicle is no longer in use. Recently LACoFD has contracted with Ford for new lifeguard vehicles that come with a built in method of transporting. Your assesment is correct in that they will treat and stabilize the patient there, and then use the lifeguard vehicles to transport the patient to the ambulance for transport to the hospital. LAFD does have an ATV, green john deere vehicle that is used for special events like parades and such. You can find pictures of it on my website. As far as weather goes... this is LA guys. Winter??? In LA??? We average 35 days of rain a year. That is an annual average, and we haven't been close to that for a while. Let me describe LA weather to everyone who might not be aware of it. I've seen lightning twice in 31 years of living in SoCal. I've never seen snow here. I've seen hail once. I don't own a jacket or an umbrella. I don't have a long sleeve shirt. I think i might have a sweatshirt somewhere that a friend gave me. It could be jan 1st or June 30th, and I garuntee you that i'm wearing blue jeans and a t-shirt and Im comfortable. In the valleys we get up to the low 100s in the summer, and down to maybe the 50s and 60s in the winter. Most of the time we're in the 70s-80s all year round. Some of the biggest brush fires i've fought have been from october to feb. Pines burnt 68k acres in less then a week in Feb 2002, and the bad fire siege we had in 2007 was in October. The general rule is that it's fire season all year round in LA and being a meterologist means looking out the window and going yep, nice, sunny and clear... just like every day for the last 3 months. Want to change the weather to be more LA Like? Read the tutorial I wrote on editing freeplay and make it more like Francis has done. Gotta Love LA!! Mike -

The model used in game is from Los Angeles County Sheriff's Dept Hummer used by the Antelope Valley Search and Rescue team. There are no definitive sites for all LAPD and LAFD vehicles, but you might want to try my website listed in my signature. It currently has over 13,000 pictures from the Southern California area. Also, one thing I'd like to point out is that there are a lot of vehicles in the game already. When suggesting a new one, please include a reasoning why and how you think it would either improve or change the game. About the only thing that has been pretty clearly said no to is a new helicopter model due to the immense time and effort that they take. -

I'm not a Captain, but I do have experience on budget and purchase comittees and bid processes. First the cost. You are correct in saying that a Quint costs more then a Fire Engine. Much more in fact. But that statement is a bit misleading because you are comparing an Aerial apparatus to a non-aerial apparatus. The real question would be how much does a quint cost compared to other forms of aerial apparatus? A quint has to perform 5 functions with its primary function being the aerial ladder. An engine performs 3 functions and has no aerial device. You can find the 2008-2008 LAFD budget for 07-08 here which details a standard, non-quint, LAFD tillered aerial truck at $846,400 compared to their fire engines at $537,109. LACoFD on the other hand uses KME quints which cost $589,392.50 as can be seen in this document by Corona City in which they tagged onto the LACoFD bid. Many cities will join with LACoFD on a purchase to get better bulk rates. The more apparatus of the same type purchased at the same time, the lower the cost goes. In comparrison, an LACoFD Engine will cost $378,573.20 as you can see in this tag on by the City of Lompoc document As you can see, your point is valid in that a Quint is more expensive then a fire engine, but at the same time, depending on the specs, manufacturer # of axles and length of ladder amongst other issues, a Quint does not neccesarily have to be more expensive then any other aerial apparatus. In regards to the length, besides the special application bronto lifts, I've looked at KME, Pierce, Seagrave, and E-one and found that almost all aerials were the standard lengths of 75 ft or 100ft. This was regardless of whether or not it was a tower, quint, or straight stick. In game, the only major change would be to allow hose connections in addition to the aerial master stream to make it a true quint. I have no idea if the truck in the game currently cost more then the engine, but if it doesn't it should. -

Sounds like you are thinking of a tourniquet for the application and splint for the word. I don't know about where you are, but here we really don't have a lot of different bags. Most engines just carry a BLS bag and maybe a burn bag, but for the medics, they'll usually have an ALS bag with airway kit and their drug box. Remember, you just have 2 guys and the last thing you want is going back and forth, back and forth, so they pretty much just grab the bag and drug box and go. The defib is usually just placed on the stretcher when they head inside. There really isn't a whole lot of getting and choosing going on. LACoFD's firehawks are used much the same way LAFD's Bell 412s are. They are set up for Air Ambulance duty, water dropping, and helitack/fly crew duty. They're larger then the Bells, and carry between 1000 and 1500 gallons of water and foam compared to the usual 500+ gallons the Bells carry. As for where it is used in LA City, the simple answer is that it isn't. The complex answer is that LAFD has a fleet of 4 Bells, and 2 Jet rangers for observation to handle most of their own needs. On wildland/brush incidents though, the automatic mutual aid response includes LA County Hand Crews, Superintendents, and no less then 1 Helicopter. They can also be requested for air ambulance by the IC on the ground if LAFD's own birds have an extended ETA, though it is beyond rare, it has happened. What would be nice is if any of you other scripters and modelers out there could find a way to make a helicopter drop water a limited number of times, as well as deliver a fly crew. We could then leave LAFDs bird for air ambulance, and use LACoFD for fly crew and water drops. Mike -
You'd be right then. It's Denver's Engine 6, one of the old 1990's Seagraves. But does anyone know if thossi answered if Davidtok was right?

The apparatus in the game is already a quint. Quints are defined as having a pump, a water tank, a complement of fire hose, an aerial ladder, and a complement of ground ladders. The rig in game has all of those things, including an aerial master stream from the bucket. The only thing really missing is the ground ladder which is something that has been requested before and pump connections to it which was left off to simulate LAFD's trucks better, which are not Quints.
