I'll gladly have a discussion. Let's all keep it civil, and please for fucks' sake don't abuse the downvote feature. My position on this issue has not changed. I am going to tell it like it is. I won't give my opinion on the private mods issue because I've already said my thoughts on that many times. I'm also not going to speak on other modders' behalf. Regarding usage of content, I don't put much more thought into it than this: I make content that I like, on my own terms. I set the rules how my content is used. If you don't like those terms, don't use the content. Go ahead and hold me responsible for "killing Em4 modding". You have the right to hold that opinion, and I have the right to not care for what you think of me. I also don't agree with the framing of this situation that "the begging will stop when the assets are released". I know for a fact that people still complained about these issues even after the release of Montana mod. And with that in mind, why should I be bothered by begging, when I can just...not do anything about it? I can go on with my day unaffected by it. Personally, I don't see the point in beating this dead horse again; at a fundamental level, you and I won't see eye to eye so what's the point of bringing this up? At the end of the dya, I do this because I want to, not because I owe it to someone. Clout? Fame? Views? I could give a fuck. I'm here because I like doing this, I have my friends and good people around me. We shoot the shit, have fun. That's all it is to me now. Moving forward, I'd like to resolve this situation by offering a compromise: I'll stay away from you, and you stay away from me. No future arguments erupt from this situation, nobody loses anything. Life is hard enough as is for everyone in the world right now, I don't think Em4 modding should be another weight on people.6 points

The Montana Mod includes many new vehicles, personnel, structures, and equipment. It is set in an alternate history/re-visualization of the real-life ghost town of Monida Pass, in Beaverhead County, Montana. The mod provides the player with control over the first responders of an American small town and changes the look and feel of the gameplay environment to match. All content in this mod may NOT be used in other mods! Not for commercial use! You are not allowed to make money from this mod. Conversion of any assets to other games besides the Emergency games is prohibited. Reuploading this mod to other sites besides emergency-planet.com and emergency-forum.de is prohibited.1 point -
I'm sorry but this is so wrong, It is frustrating to see you and other complain about modders because you don't agree with their terms of service/usage of that particular mod. If a Modder decided you cannot use their assets/mods it is entirely their choice and that is the end of it, If you don't like it the best thing you can do is to put your time and effort into learning the skills necessary just like we did, so your able to create your own work instead of relying on others. In my opinion it is in fact people like you witch damage the community and turns future modders off from wanting to create new content Imagine spending countless hours working on a project building assets, testing and troubleshooting issues and then releasing the product free of charge only to have people post how it's not fair that they can't use your work. In my mind this is madness and is where the real fault lies.... As an ex Em4 modder I'm glad I'm not active in this community these days. Thankfully this thing doesn't really exists in Em5. It's really disheartening to see and shameful1 point

Press the TEC menu and move mouse to where you want to call the truck, this should open the menu up and allow you to call Tows.1 point

To deinstall the ladder, you have to lower the ladder first. Then it can deinstall and move it.1 point

Disregard original post, it didn't want to load the one above. Fun. Either way, I did notice the utility truck and both tow trucks will always drive at top speed, whereas everything else only does that with sirens on. I want to say the coroner van didn't do that though, so I have no idea if it's related to them not having sirens, or being in the TEC category. Other than that, things have been fairly smooth sailing with no unreported problems I think and I'm still very much enjoying the mod1 point

This is one of the reasons developers are keeping their mods private. I hate it when drama starts over a certain mod. Especially over a mod that people have said that it's private and a test bed. People don't fucking get that people have choices to do what they want.1 point

Over the last year, I've seen a phrase pop up constantly in discords, comment sections, and forums all over the community. The exact wording changes but the common theme is always the same. "Private mods killed this community." I'm sure everyone is guilty of daydreaming over City of Angels or River Falls at least once, it's only natural. But those mods aren't private because of some ill will of the creators, nor are they harming this community. No, dear friends, the fault is ours. I am a relative newcomer to Emergency 4's community. While I have been playing the game in one form or another since 2011, I only took an active role in the community late in 2017. Even so, over the last five years, and after reading several old threads and speaking with some real "OGs" of the community, it's pretty obvious that we only have ourselves to blame for the current state of things. MikeyPI made a pretty well structured post in 2015 about why he and Hoppah were deciding to hold development of the NYC mod for the time being. I'll post it below, as it's worth reading. I'll also post a link to the thread if anyone else in interested in scrolling through a seven year old locked thread. MikeyPI's post from 16 June 2015 (spoiler tagged for the sake of formatting) and here is the thread if you want to read further (highly recommended) By my own interpretation, Mikey wanted to wait until the state of the community improved to release his work into our lives. The state of the community never did improve, sadly, so NYC V2 stays forgotten on a hard drive somewhere, probably forever. Nowadays, all I see is people complaining about this decision. Hardly a new thing, even in the original thread some people whined and moaned over the dev's rightful decision, but what was once balanced with some messages of sympathy is now just the voices of the masses crying because they couldn't play with a new toy. Thats the root of it, in my opinion. We've become so obsessed with something new. Everyone wants a new mod so they can play something just a little different, but that desire for more has given way to a monster - theft. Now is this the "legal definition" of theft? No, probably not. I've had it argued to me that no civil or legal action can be taken for anything in this game because of all sorts of varying reasons. But my rant here has nothing to do with legality, but about respect. Itchboy is the principal victim of this nowadays - look no further than his parking script to see what I mean. All he can do is ask politely for us to refrain from using an asset he placed his effort and time into creating, and a portion of the community has walked all over that. All his scripts, models, etc. Same goes for EmC_Unit. You need not look too far to see an edit of the Miami mod out there, even though it is forbidden in the terms of service. I'll take a moment now to acknowledge that not everyone is guilty of being a vulture for other's content, this site in particular seems to have no issue for it whatsoever, and for that I am thankful. I'm sure that what I've been referring to this whole time is simply a vocal minority, their actions speaking loud thanks to their discords and other websites that function as an echo chamber. But the problem is certainly widespread enough to be of concern to all of us. Why should Itchboy, EmC_Unit, THVFD, or anyone else for that matter release anything anymore? None of us want that, but it's near impossible to blame these long time developers from wanting to withhold some of their work from us. It's not about greed on the dev's part. Itchboy alone publishes dozens upon dozens of free to use models for us if we really aspire to create our own mods. He's also present on the forums to answer questions, even the most ammeter ones. (He helped me greatly in my early days of modding.) The problem is greed for us. We become so blinded by seeing things that are "new" and we forget that these developers are owed respect of their boundaries. Their time and effort has gone into creating a product for the community, it is the absolute least we can do to be able to recognize that we shouldn't view all these projects as a depot for spare parts. But we have been treating these projects as depots for spare parts. That is what is killing this community. Not private mods, but our own greed. TL;DR - If we weren't so greedy about assets, we would have no need for private mods.1 point

I'll be watching this thread, everyone, please be nice about this discussion even if it's a controversial topic. As for my thoughts? I was named specifically so here's my take: If we're talking about the forums in general, things have improved significantly and people absolutely an respect one another's work within this section of the community. Compared to those older days, I feel a lot more satisfied in making content in this kind of environment. I am also thankful for all the new people I've met, and the people who support my projects in a non-transactional way. It is an honor to make mods with many of your positive interactions. It's a much better situation than people mindlessly begging for assets like the old days. I'm still amazed that I have people helping with research, texture making, collaborations with models, scripts. For me personally, if there is a solution to this "problem", it's the one I've been saying for years. If you don't like private mods, instead of tearing down content creators, support public mods instead. There are many public release mods that need a lot of love and improvement and could benefit from your effort. Look at how community sourced information was able to help Project Nostalgia and Montana. It really doesn't take much but you could become a part of making your favorite mods be even better.1 point

Building fires can only be extinguished via an Interior Attack - the manual details how to complete this. I suffer the same issue, but the ladder can be deinstalled by pressing 'Return to HQ', you can then retask the ladder before it leaves the map.-1 points

I have kept this to myself for the past couple of years. But I believe it is time to share my thoughts on the whole EM4 Modding Community. The community is in a bad place due to both people who create mods for the game and the people that play those mods. And the reason for that is for 2 reasons. Mod creators either keeping their mods private for no real reason besides they can. And for mod creators who release mods but then forbid people from using stuff from that mod (looking at you Itchboy). And they both affect the community the same way. They keep people from creating and releasing mods that they are proud of. Not everyone that can work on a mod have the skills that other people do. Plus mod creators need to start somewhere and usually that is with a reskin of a current mod. Forbidding people from using your stuff in a mod and releasing it. And throwing a hissy fit when someone does is hurting the community. Because again. It limits how good a mod is because they aren't as good as others. The only reason a mod should be kept private is if it is either a work-in-progress (WIP) or it is unstable. But other than that. Mods should be made public when they are finished or close to finish and need bug testing that more than a couple people can do. The modding community can't really grow as much as it can if we keep making mods private or forbidding people from using things from one mod and putting it in another. Have I wanted mods like River Falls? Yes. Will we get them? No. Why? Because the mod creators are selfish and want to keep the mods private. I wonder how many mods have died because the mod developers couldn't use stuff from another mod? All that should be required for a mod to be released is everything that you did not create gets credit to the people who did create it. That is enough on the mod creators being selfish and restricting the modding community. Do I understand that the player base for Emergency 4 can be annoying? Yes. And I can somewhat understand why. People begging for mods can be easily solved by releasing your mod to the public once it is done. But what happens if it is still a WIP? Then you just say that the mod is still a work-in-progress and will be released when it is done. As for people asking for release dates. What we have done on here is enough to keep it to a minimum. Will there still be people asking for release dates? Yes. Why? 9/10 times. It will be because they did not read the TOS for the site. Are there other annoyances with the community? Yes. Can I think of it off the top of my head. Not right now. Can the community be helped and Emergency 4 can have an amazing modding community? Hell Yeah. But it has to come down to people like Itchboy who needs to let people use their stuff in other mods or using their mod as a base. And people to stop needlessly keeping mods private. Those 2 things hurt the community the most. And restrict the creativity of mods as I know people want to make mods as realistic as possible.-5 points
